Better Built Barns, Inc

These people are liars. Ordered and paid 50% down in August of 2020. Scheduled for install October. The day of the scheduled install I get a call from them and the guy asked if they could come Monday instead of Friday. I said ok. Then they billed me for the second half over the weekend. On Monday I get an email from them stating that they are not going to build it. In other words it had not been in production... they lied and there wasn’t going to be an install. Their VP Travis called me and said he just decided they weren’t going to do it. No explanation beyond that. These people treat their customers like crap. Save yourself some frustration and buy somewhere else. Literally the worst business I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with.

Shortly after we contacted his company Mike made the trip out to rural Pierce County to look at the site where we wanted to put the barn.  We were concerned because the land sloped some and was quite soggy, but he assured us that they could put in foundation posts that would level the building and work with the soggy ground.

The building crew, Bruce and two Nathans showed up on time (9am) on the date that was convienent to us.  The shed came on a flat-bed truck pre-cut for for "easy" assembly.  The crew worked hard and did what we thought was impossible: erect our shed in one day!  They were very pleasant and put up with all our questions and picture-taking.  The framing for our two windows was perfect, and they even installed the windows for us.  All of the wood and siding is of excellent quality, and the siding came with a primer coat that has made painting the building easy.  The four translucent skylights they installed in the roof provide an amazing amount of light to the loft.  They cleaned up their scraps and left us the larger pieces of wood and siding to use as we wanted to.  We couldn't have been more pleased.

The crew arrived with all materials in a truck and two guys.  Bought the shed through Lowes.  I had the area prepped so they started right away.  The only thing that came up was they needed to remove some lower branches from a fir tree so I told them to go ahead.  They needed and electric outlet for the compressor but that was all.

The crew was very skilled and knocked it out in 5H start to finish. 

I followed up with a full caulk and paint job to match the house, looks great.

The completed product is solid and built like a house, well worth it.  A year later it still looks great, no leaks or settling.

This was the most disappointing experience we have had with a contractor in decades. We went to the McLendon's hardware store in Renton, WA to order this building from Better Build Barns(BBB). Look at our McLendon's review for details about that part of our experience. We scheduled the job to be done on September 5th, 2014. We were told that the builders would arrive between 9am and 10am. We received a confirmation call several days ahead of that time to make sure we would be here when the work was started. I took the day off from work so I could go over where the building was to go with the builders and be able to observe the assembly of the building. At about 11:30 I called the contact person for BBB to find out where the workers were that were already supposed to be here. I was told that they had stopped at another job place to repair a roof on some other building. The two man crew finally showed up at 1:30pm. This was 3.5 to 4.5 hours late for our job. The crew worked on the building until 9:30pm that night, an hour and a half after dark, when my wife finally asked them to stop because the noise was disturbing our neighbors. The building was still unfinished at that time. The next day I inspected the work and found numerous flaws and issues with the building. These issues included, but were not limited to 1)the building was not level and the blocking under the building was not level as well, 2)the door was not fitted properly and didn't seal, 3)one of the soffit vents wasn't fastened fully and the other wasn't installed at all, 4)the roof had a torn shingle, a folded under shingle, very ragged edges and the staggering of the shingles was done with the tabs in a brick pattern instead of the modernly accepted stagger pattern which professional roofers have used for many decades, 5)one part of the roof flashing is damaged, 6)many of the studs do not meet up with the top plate properly, and 7)the floor inside and the ground around the building was littered with construction debris. When I contacted the BBB people I got a lot of argument from them about many of the issues, but they finally agreed to come out and correct the issues and finish the building. We rescheduled a day and time for the corrections to be done, but once again, BBB was late in arriving to do the work, only this time is was over 4.5 hours late.When I inspected the building the next day because I was unable to wait around for the crew to finish, I found several issues still remaining. The most concerning issues remaining were the roof issues and the fact that the building was still not level. At this point in my communication with Micheal Fishbaugh I received nothing but arguments about the issues from BBB and a complete refusal to return to correct any of the issues. I was told by Mr. Fishbaugh that BBB doesn't guarantee to set the building or the blocking under the building to level. BBB at this point refused to communicate any further with me. At this point, I contacted McLendon's and talked with Ray Chapman of the Renton store. He claimed to be appalled at our experience and asked to know what they could do to correct the situation. I told him that at this point I would be satisfied with the replacement of the roof to modern standards and to have the building made level. The only way we got the building leveled was to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau against BBB. Ray Chapman called me and told me to have a roofing contractor come out and bid the roof replacement and then let him know the bid. I went through the process of contacting a professional roofing company, getting the bid from them, and sending the bid to Ray Chapman. I left numerous messages for Mr. Chapman along with emails of the bid and asking him for a response, but to this date, I have never heard from Mr. Chapman again. I have looked at sample buildings from BBB and Tuff Sheds. The building we received is in no way better than those I have seen from Tuff Sheds which I find to be quite average. At this point, if I had it all to do over, I would go with Tuff Sheds because I would get just as good of a building and I find it hard to believe that we would have been treated any worse.

I like that they have a very good quality.
