Moving
$355

Everything was set to go for the move.  At 3:30pm on the Friday prior to the move (scheduled for the next morning at 10AM), I received a phone call from Stress Free Movers to notify me that they were cancelling the appointment.  When I asked why, they told me they had made a mistake and double-booked.  Considering the appointment was scheduled a week in advance, there's no good reason to not have discovered this issue earlier rather than waiting until the last minute to check the schedule. Clearly this was very disappointing.  I asked if they had any other moving companies they could refer to me to, but they weren't able to even do that.  They told me they might be able to help out, but would have to call me back in two hours which they never did.  This is the most disappointing service I have received from a company.

Moving
$400
Let's start with the fact that I didn't read the fine print carefully. I responded to an ad for "3 Men with a Truck for 3 hours" for $60/hour plus $50 travel time.....my bad, I got hooked on what the ad said, and was in a hurry to find someone, and we got started on the wrong foot because of that.
The pluses -- they worked extremely fast and were good strong guys once we got moving. They did pretty well coordinating the packing and unload with only a few glitches.
The crew leader was smart and a good leader -- the guys respected him and they were definitely there to do a good job. They all had really nice personalities, well mannered, and they worked well together -- obviously they had done this before.
The minuses --They showed up about 1.5 hours late WITHOUT A TRUCK (I know, my fault for not reading the fine print), One of the guys, the one driving the car they came in, had alcohol on his breath, I even overheard one of them asking  the other if he wanted another beer while they were unloading the truck.
At the end of the day, he wanted to charge me for the hours that we spent hunting down the truck--which took about an extra hour because the driver (the one with beer on his breath) kept going the wrong way on the highway, missing exits, even after assuring me they knew where they were going as they had just been in my town the day before....I also believe he was including the 1.5 hours  for the late arrival, and a break for lunch, which I had I fed them...which is fine to take the time of course, I just didn't expect it to have the lunch time included in my hours. That didn't set well with me at all.
So the moral of the story is: don't trust any movers, don't assume anything, and read the fine print--the deal you saw on the internet isn't real--double it and you'll be just about right.
Are they good people? Absolutely yes! I think they have potential to do fine work going forward if they listen to feedback and make a few changes, such as clarifying and setting expectations -- making sure the customer knows they need to get a truck themselves -- or at least asking that question when taking the order.
Response from Stress Free Movers
"We're sorry that (removed member name) misunderstood our advertisment. However, we send out detailed confirmation emails with every booking. (removed member name) also took advantage of our 10% prepay discount but somehow overlooked our invoice before she put in her card information. This information was then again presented to (removed member name) the day of the move, at which point she admitted fault. It did take sometime for (removed member name) to get a truck as she had our movers drive to 2 different locations in an effort to find a open truck depot. We understand that (removed member name) thinks that she should have not been billed for this time. However, our time starts when our movers arrive upon location, which should be understandable when our movers are travelling from Kirkland, WA to Gig Habor, WA. (removed member name) also forgets to mention that not only did the movers driver truck for her, but they also consolidated her to two 5x10 storage units into one at another location. The accusations of drinking on the job are seriously appalling. Stress Free Movers has been the Beer Garden Distro Team for the Bumbershoot Festival in Seattle, WA for the last 4 years and running. One of the movers that she mentions in her post is also the supervisor for the team. We work hard to keep an strong reputation of integrity and have a very strict alcohol and drug policy. When the move finally got underway (removed member name) stated that sour movers were fast, professional, knowledgeable, and polite. All of the qualities still came to light after the issue with the truck. No damage was reported and our movers recall her 3rd floor apartment being fairly easy to get to 80 degree weather. Hopefully (removed member name) will read this response and see things from our point of view. We over came the obstacles and still gave her a quailty service."
