He was well prepared and brought new parts for all the possible issues we were having (brand new fire alarms, although we already had them... no problem he would just return the ones he bought for us; and brand new fan motor for the bathroom). Don figured out fixing the bathroom fan was as simple as replacing a small plastic dial, and gave me the option to run to the parts store across the street to look for the right piece so that he could make the most out of our time since he was on the clock. So instead of $25+ fix it was $4. He also noticed small issues around the house and took the liberty to make the quick fixes although he had not initially been sent to for those issues (tightened a handrail and fixed a doorstop). And for fixes that would require more of a specialist (the curtains are a fancy system), he was able to give us referrals and did his best to make the curtains manageable for now.
I didn't really have a choice of who was coming to the house, we rent the townhouse and all maintenance is scheduled through the property manager and paid for by the landlord (so I cannot comment on how much the cost of service was), but we would gladly have Don back to the house again for any other maintenance needs.
A pipe in my condo broke and flooded my entire unit and the stairwell. I needed to replace the carpet, pad, drywall and crown molding in my condo.
I was not home when the condo flooded and a neighbor called maintco to address the issue. I was confused when service master came instead of maintco but I did not ask questions, instead I needed the mess cleaned up. Service master was professional, quick and knowledgeable. When I got the bill from service master for $18,000.00 for 1 days work and 1 small room to have drywall replaced (i chose to paint it myself) I was astounded. I called maintco and asked why they sent me a bill when service master was the company that showed up, they explained that they are simply a dispatch service and I did not need to worry about the bill, "just send it to your insurance" My insurance denied the claim and so I went to service master directly and asked to pay the bill, service master was willing to let me pay them directly for the $4,800.00
I called maintco and told them there must be a mistake in the billing and I was going to pay serivce master directly, Maintco freaked out and said, no you need to bill your insurance. I explained my insurance was not going to pay and I needed to settle up, but was not able to pay $18,000.00. they told me too bad, I hired their services and then in turn they hired service master and it was none of my business how much service master charged. This was rediculous but they told me if I did not pay the full amount that it would go against my credit. I wish I had heard about "Get Jesse" on King 5 news back then I would have fought this thing to the end.
My condo association now goes directly to service master and there prices seem fair.
WARNING: Maintco is a ripoff and likes to get a lot of insurance money and hire out another company to do the work.
