Poor communication and customer service! I specifically talked to the person in the office about wanting to use my own truck for a lesson and confirming it's okay before booking. She said it was fine and then sent me the link to book online, which required payment first. Of course, it was after I paid for the lesson and was allowed to pick a time for it that they tell me that I have to use one of their vehicles (cars) for insurance reasons. I already know how to drive a car. I wanted practice with a large pickup truck, that's the whole point of getting the lesson! When I asked for a cancellation and refund, they would only do it with a $15 processing fee. It's not like I'm canceling with short notice, so I don't see how I should pay them for a service that I did not receive. I am disputing the charge through my credit card company.

The instructor was great and made the class very engaging for the young teen crowd (not an easy task), especially when many didn't seem too interested. It must be hard to overcome the disinterest. |The website and getting things setup was more difficult and needs to be updated. An example is not being able to fully register and pay for the class online if using a coupon. You must snail mail a check to them. |We were very satisfied with the instruction and would recommend them.

I had heard that most of the classes are similar and I should sign up for the class that was at the time I needed. While they did not have a class as close to home as I would have liked, nobody else did either. My daughter was not bored during the classes and did not complain about doing the preparation necessary for classroom assignments. She liked her driving instructor who was patient with her (at least when we observed in the car). She seems to have learned what she needed to learn.
The only trouble I had was with my email. For some reason, at the start of the session, I received the initial schedule emails but nothing after that until I recognized the problem. We ended up missing the parent session (after the second class) because they changed the time and day. The instructor met with us and filled us in, so no harm done.
They were very accommodating when we had to change some of the scheduled drives. The company was easy to reach by phone and both helpful and courteous. I would recommend this company for driver's ed.

I liked it, it was good. I liked it because they had the parents come in too. I liked it because my son actually learned how to drive from them. I liked it because of the time, he was able to take in the classroom the written test before you take you license.

We had a $50 off coupon which should have told me right there that they probably weren't going to be very good. They would call and we schedule the driving class. They called and we scheduled three or four times but when we call and schedule, they make such a big deal out of it. One point, they tried to charge us but I told them that they scheduled three times and we scheduled only once. The physical facilities were horrible. There was no air conditioning and it was in some old icky building in the district. We would not recommend them. Their price was good.

They were pretty good. My daughter did in-class training and a bunch of behind the wheel driving. She thought it was really good.

Choose this school!
I did a lot of comparison shopping and picked this one because of the added options that the other schools don't have. I The session on skid control and recovery was a real confidence builder for my snowboarding son. I felt a lot better about him driving to school on our icy hill and heading up to the pass knowing he has experienced skids and knows how to deal with them. He also wanted to drive a manual transmission and the school had a session where he could learn from an instructor on thier car. Saved my nerves and clutch.
What I didn't expect was how much my son would learn and retain from his instructor. Two years later I am still hearing him say, "Brian taught me..." Thanks Brian. My son is a good, safe and conscious driver because of you.
I was inspired to write today because I saw a kid driving out of the DDS parking lot in a DDS Mustang. Brilliant! This just shows how much DDS "gets it". If your kid is going to buy a land rocket (like mine did), isn't it a great idea that they get some supervised instruction on how to manage a powerful car? Brilliant. If your son is like mine, he can't hear a word of wisdom from you. But what Brian says, they hear.

"Thank you for your kind comments. The skid training is a wonderful tool to show students how to control a vehicle that has lost traction. I'm glad you also like the Mustang:)"

Complete rip-off. The main selling point is that the student will receive a certificate at the end of the course that they present to WA DoL to skip the knowledge test. The class takes the knowledge test at the last meeting. Our daughter is a v-ball player and had an out-of-state tournament on the date of the last class meeting. I called them WEEKS before the date to re-schedule her to take the test. Everything fine so far. They give us a "take-home" knowledge test (strange). She makes up the last class, turns in her knowledge test and passes . Passes her final drive test. About a week later we get the certificate in the post. All to do now is wait for six months since learner permit expiry to go to DoL. Flash forward to August 2012. We sit in DoL for two hours before her number is called. We get to the window, present certificate and other stuff and are told by DoL that there isn't the required stamp from the driver education school to certify she passed the knowledge test. I call the Driving School. They pull her record and state that she didn't attend the final class and therefore didn't take the knowledge test. What about making up the class, taking the "knowledge test", and passing the drive test. Doesn't matter they say. Sorry. So the long and short is that we spent several months taking her to/from the Redmond location where they taught according to the DoL manual you can download off the Internet. She dealt with an in-car driving instructor who couldn't speak English. We did everything according to their rules and then the primary asset we were supposed to receive at the end of the course wasn't worth the paper it was printed on. At DoL, the front-line person helped us immensely. She noted that WA state is getting fed up with the shenanigans being pulled by a lot of Driver Ed companies and that the knowledge test certificate for them to offer is coming under review. My second child won't go through this mess.
Response from DEFENSIVE DRIVING SCHOOL
"Dear Customer, We regret that you were were unhappy with our course. The law governing the ability to issue the DOL knowledge test on the final day of class is NOT set by our company. We're required to follow the DOL's guidelines or risk losing our losing our license. In the event a student misses the class where the test is given, the student is not allowed to take the test. While we do communicate this at our parent session and also inform the class of this when discussing the final test, but I believe we could have done more to communicate this to you and realize that we've lost the opportunity to earn your business in the future."

I was very impressed with my driving instructor, Issac, who teaches out of the Issaquah location. I found him to be very professional, personable, patient and very easy to communicate with. He always put me at ease and helped to increase my knowledge, improve my driving techniques and boost my confidence in driving.
I passed my driving test in the U.K a long time ago but Issac made it possible for me to pass my driving test here in the U.S. So if you have moved to the U.S from another country and are nervous about driving on the other side of the road with different driving laws, Issac is your man!
I feel very lucky to have had such an excellent instructor and I would highly recommend him to others.

Our experience with them was great. They are very flexible. They gave instructions to work on for my daughter in between sessions. They were fantastic. They were just great. They did a very, very good job. I would use them again in the future.

I canceled my scheduled test date based on his advice but I was a bit bewildered but have decided to get some assistance from another driving school. I have driven for many many years and couldn't renew my license after recovering from knee replacement. It is required that I take this test to get my license reinstated.
