When trying to shop for my wife's car stereo upgrade, I think I had perhaps the worst "Sales" experience in my life. And before you mistakenly think this is a "I hate sales people" review, think again. I WANTED a good sales person to tell me what I needed to know, show me the values of the systems that wouldn't disappoint (upsell) and close on a product,.. Buy and Set Install ASAP! I used to sell electronics back in the day, and I walked in the IDEAL customer ready and almost looking forward to overpaying just to get the right unit in ASAP for my Wife's surprise. Not only would the sales person NOT talk to me until he saw the vehicle (which I didnt bring) but he refused to take my word for what I had (double din vs single din.. because I didn't know the exact make .. for those of you curious, a single din, is the thin stereo unit where a double din is the WIDE almose square unit.. Yes there are variations beyond that simple description, but my model car only has two options factory,.. and it is VERY easy to tell which it is. ) My sales person simply would not believe that my system was the double din without seeing it , and would not talk options until then. I actually had to forcefully INSIST that I go look at the products to see what is available. All he would talk about is the potential difficulty of the install job. (which I had told him I understood, and had actually done a number of installs myself.) There isn't much point to going further. Than leaving a few rules that this person should learn about sales (which currently he fails at) 1. Never call a customer a liar. It's insulting and can only anger your customer > Salesperson-"What kind of system is in your car now" Customer-" Not sure exactly, but it is the factory/stock Double Din Bose system with both CD and Cassett" Salesperson "You must be confused, It (computer) says Your Audi can't have a Bose system, your audi only came with a "Symphony" or a "Concert" system. (Especially if you are dead wrong.. The factory option of the Bose Symphony is a Bose option which has icons everywhere) This tells your customer that you are A. incompetent to figure out what he has, and B. Rude. Neither are good selling features. 2. Always try to answer the questions a customer has. Never REFUSE to answer their questions. It shows that either you do not want their business, or you really don't have any answers which means they really shouldnt be talking to much less buying from you. 3. Always have an opinion on your products. If a customer has asked for what you recommend.. BY GOD, recommend something, as they will more than likely go that direction. (Again, if you can't recomend something, you have NO value to them except cashier) 4. Always try to sell something. Even if it is just a mock up of the most expensive or least expensive unit they would go with. You don't have to be pushy at all. But even if you don't know all of the specifics, if the customer is ready to make a commitment or put their money down,.. TAKE IT.. even if you have to completely change the order later,.. The alternative is SOMEWHERE ELSE will. 5. Show the YES's and the Possitives more than The NOs and Negatives or problems. Do NOT spend 80% of the conversation telling them how many ways it can screw up or cost more than they expect due to custom work etc. etc. 6. Listen to your customer. What they want is important. What you want is NOT. Be careful when you talk down to them. They may have actually done your job, been fluent in the tech, and spent an early part of their life managing and training car audio sales and installs. Without naming names,: Whoever manages this Car Toys, and Car Toys in general,... You're employee sales training is the worst I've ever seen. I have stopped into this store on 5 occasions, each with intentions of buying something, and been horrified by the level of incompetence every time. It's actually sad.
Description of Work: I did not (could not) buy, even though I intended to. I was going to buy and have installed an LCD touchscreen head unit and additional amp, From this experience there is no way I would trust these people to tie their own shoes, much less touch a car, or handle my tech.
