Our heat pump was not working and the tech replaced the capacitor and 'soft kick start' which fixed the issue. I did not get any warranty info with my invoice, so I called the office to ask for it and was told they would get back to me. I also told her that I was hearing a new noise from the heat pump. When I had not heard a week later, I left a message. (New noise had stopped, but still they should have responded.) When I didn't hear from them a week after that, I reached someone in the office who told me that I would receive info in an email the next day or a phone call. Still haven't gotten anything and it's been 5 weeks. Three Strikes and You are Out Black Lion! Either the office workers or the management don't care!

The installers were really quick and cleaned everything really good. There was a little problem with the inspection which was resolved the next day.

Been a customer of Black Lion for 10+ years. Replaced furnace years ago due to old age and had to replace again due to faulty manufactured parts and received a discount from Bryant the manufacturer. Added AC unit and then replaced with heat pump/AC as recommended by Black lion. System not heating my home and service the last 2 years has declined. They just don’t care anymore. Cancelled appoints by them and more promises with no follow through. Called Bryant who acknowledged they have received other customer complaints about Black Lion and have recommended another local company who is coming out to correct the issues. Paid a fortune to Black lion for all new equipment and extra filters which I never received. Not one call back from ownership when requested. Beware! update as of 1/31/2023 Follow up to previous review. Another Bryant recommended residential HVAC contractor came out and inspected my furnace and heat pump/air conditioning equipment and installation. They found the highest end furnace model was installed incorrectly with a too small diluted box and filter and mounted on the floor instead of up on a floor spacing box with inadequate air returns and a convoluted twisting water disposal pipes from air condenser A/C function. Furnace was not calibrated w/ 3 stages of gas output which causes it to overheat but most shockingly the gas function was turned off and only the new electric heat pump was turned on. Thus starting at below 40degrees outside little to no heat coming into the house and worse as it got colder outside. The installation was faulty and they never bothered to properly turn on and calibrate. Too small filter box causes huge wear and tear on the motor as it speeds up to push enough air. I have to get this system completely redone to work properly. We have it working for now but not close to what correct installation is designed to perform. Beware. I trusted Black Lion knew what they were doing.

I have used this co for many years for furnace tune ups, this time was much different. I told the tech my furnace had been making a awful noise. He said that some fan part was just warped but shouldn’t be a problem and that I was “ good for the winter”. After thinking about it I called and left a message that I had a question about my service. They never called back! I wanted to know about replacing that part, the tech never offered me a quote on anything. After about one month of still awful noise my furnace pilot light went out. I definitely was not going to call them back after seeing many one star reviews plus they don’t seem to return calls anymore. I paid 200.00 for nothing! I called CM heating had great service and ended up buying a new furnace from them!!

Please be cautious when doing business with Black Lion. I would strongly suggest you purchase your HVAC/Heat Pump from a more reliable company. 5 years ago we were sold a Trane furnace, heat pump ready, by a Black Lion salesman. They assured me this was a worthy purchase and they would be able to add the heat pump any time in the future when we were ready. 5 years later, we have a new salesman tech, Adam, who said they no longer carry Trane but could accommodate our needs with a Bryant heat pump. Expected delays due to supply chain issues came into play and we had no problems waiting since this was happening industry wide. About 2 months later, Adam calls to tell me that system will not be available now and another system would be needed. Once again I was reassured I would have a heat pump and this time it would be a better option since the previous Bryant was not being produced. An install date was scheduled and we were on our way to finally having a pump. On the morning of the scheduling, Adam calls me to say he made a mistake and the heat pump he ordered would not work with our system. I'm not sure how a tech would sell you a product and not know it wasn't compatible with the system before even scheduling us, but it seems the techs need training on what systems they're selling. Ultimately, we were told to go elsewhere with someone who carries Trane because they could no longer work with us. Again, I caution anyone looking into Black Lion to do some additional research and work with a more reliable company. One who is knowledgeable on their products and one who carries systems they intend to continue doing business with in the long run or you'll be stuck with half a system.

Black Lion installed our top-end Bryant heating system 7 years ago. It stopped working a month ago. Their tech diagnosed a failed inducer motor and ordered the part... quoting a month! A month has now passed with no word. We called. They have no record of the order, no interest in following up to see whether it exists or, more generally, to solve our problem of not having central heat for a month. Service tech who was here a month ago has quit. Owner is not reachable. Service manager is not reachable. We called Bryant, who referred us to a different authorized dealer who is now on top of things. In the process, Bryant found out that our warranty had not been registered by Black Lion when the system was installed, as it should have been. Bryant is being very helpful, fortunately.

Good communication skills by the tech. The rest of the maintenance was typical and competently completed.

1. Incorrect charge - they were supposed to charge the $165 service fee on the day they came to diagnose, but they charged me nearly $700 2. They did not provide itemize charges, and at nearly almost $700, it was almost the cost of a regular water heater, so excessive charge. 3. They charged the full amount before the work was done 4. They did not send me invoice or notification after the charge was made - I had to find out when I saw the charge on my credit card. I consider Black Lion a business disorganized, and unethical in its pricing and charging practices. Would NOT hire them again!

Terrible. The guy who came for the quote was rude in his talk and was not at all polite to a customer. They way he walked off rudely without any pleasantries and in middle of my talk while saying “I will send the quote” was utterly uncouth and not polite or professional at all. This was the first time to ask them and it is the last. If this the way they deal with customers then I shudder to think of any quality in their work. Thank God I did not go with them. All others I called for quote were very courteous and professional. It seemed that I was working to make him happy rather than the company getting business. Something wrong with the person, maybe having a bad day, but whatever it was, it was extremely unprofessional. Angies list should downgrade their rating.

I was very impressed with Black Lion. They just finished adding an AC system to the new furnace they installed four years ago. They also installed a hot water heater for me two years ago. All three installations have been trouble free. I got one other bid for the AC system and Black Lion was approximately $1000 cheaper. The service people were punctual, efficient and they cleaned up after themselves. I would recommend.

I am a general contractor with 15 years in the business. I hired Black Lion to install a Heat Recovery Ventilator in my own house that I built. The owner Ben claimed to have knowledge and installers to perform the installation. He also claimed to have one of these systems in his house. Having never installed one of these HRV systems before on any of my projects, I put my trust in Ben & Black Lion. The crew installed the system and it doesn't work right. After 3 weeks of continuous calls to both Ben the owner and his office staff, I finally got Ben & the crew to come back out and attempt a fix. Once the fix was attempted, no CFM measuring was done. The crew didn't even have the equipment to measure CFM. This is when I realized that they didn't know how to install these systems correctly. I later hired a 3rd party HVAC consultant to check out the system and measure the CFMs of the system. Well turns out that I'm only getting about 1/3rd of the airflow that I'm supposed to be getting. I've spent yet more weeks at this point trying to get them back out to help me fix the problem to NO AVAIL. I've even done research on how to fix the issues and have offered up several solutions... Still radio Silence! No returned phone calls or emails. It's very disappointing to be weeks from completing your dream home and having an issue like this. Even worse to have a company that doesn't give a crap! If you're looking for someone who will actually stand behind their installation LOOK FOR SOMEONE ELSE! I would never leave a customer hanging like this. Terrible service.

The technician Scott was great. I may need to spend a lot of money to replace my system, but am hoping to be able to spend only a little and fix the problem. Scott answered all my questions (I had a lot) about how the AC system works, about various options for new equipment, etc, etc. Highly recommend.

Tale of two companies: I have never written a negative review before but felt compelled to write to protect the public. My AC heat pump went out 1.5 weeks ago, the beginning of a heat wave. I called 2 HVAC companies Black Lion and rhymes with "neverseen." BL could come immediately so I agreed to pay 1/3 more $190 just for a diagnosis visit. A big mistake. The BL serviceman came on at issue, and did not give me an estimate. Days went by with no call or estimate. I emailed BL and called the receptionist, who said "Oh, I'll check into it with the distributor" but no call back. Days went by no call, no estimate, no information on what parts were defective or warranty information. With no response, I resorted to calling the other HVAC company "neverseen" who sent a serviceman out the next day. Understandably, I still had to pay a new diagnosis visit fee, but $60 less than BL. Serviceman was informative and cordial and did not ask to use my bathroom. Within a day, their receptionist sent me a copy of two estimates, one under warranty and one not. She identified the parts, labor, costs and limitations of the warranty. She took a copy of my registration form. She explained the situation in detail and all options/rationale to me. This is the difference between good and bad PR. Needless to say I will not be doing business with this company. Nor should you. I believe I am entitled to a refund. RobinM

DESTROYED our heat pump when they came to do a simple cleaning. A YEAR LATER it still wasn't fixed, and they offered ONLY A QUARTER of the replacement cost. They also refused to respond to the State Attorney General's inquiry, blocking a fair resolution. Had the technician known what he was doing, he could've told us it was too old and brittle to clean, and we could've used our home warranty to cover replacement.

Black Lion hvac I was out of town and needed a hvac service as soon as possible for a rental property that I own. I told Black Lion service department that the furnace quit working (no power) . The tenants checked the batteries and the thermostat was fine. A technician was sent out to fix unit. I was contacted by the tech and he said that the transformer was faulty and replaced with a new one. He also mentioned that there was no power to the outside heat pump and he was not qualified to find the cause. He said that he would need to have one of their "electricians" come out to investigate further. He said that the furnace would work for the time on bypassing heat pump temporally but might damage new transformer. He was there for 3 hrs and I was charged $101 for extras. for a total of $533. Seemed like a lot to replace a transformer and yet not be able to tell why no power to heat pump so I contacted another hvac company to come out to check out problem. I met with them at site and walked with them back to the heat pump unit. He lifted the shut of switch door on box mounted to house and determined there was power there. Then he remove the access panel to heat pump and determined there was power there also. We then went into the house and put the thermostat on proper setting and after 5min. delay programmed into pump it came on as required. Seems to me for the price charged for the service call that technician that was sent should have been qualified to do total job and not call for me to pay more yet to sent out a electrician to what? Diagnose a problem that wasn't even there?
