I attempted to get emergency service from AG tree service but due to a miscommuncation the text message was never received by them. Also I am not sure that the web form I filled out was received. I called back a couple times and we ended up getting the tree branch removed after the service reps came by to inspect the job. They quoted over the phone and were able to do same day service.
Later we worked out the payment details a week or so after the job was completed and Adam dropped by my place of business to receive the payment which worked out great.
I think their communication system could be improved which would have helped things go smoother.
Overall I was happy with the service and would recommend them for similar work in the future.
Pros: they did the job quickly, they were on time, they did good work.
Cons: I asked repeatedly for a precise statement of work ahead of time, and didn't get one. This turned out to be a problem because of two issues: removing the tree stump and removing all the wood from the tree. I had assumed the former would be included, and it wasn't. This is not itself a deal breaker, except I didn't know that until they were actually doing the work. Again, I could have fixed this by getting competitive bids ahead of time, and if he had provided a statement of work as requested. The second, removing the wood, actually was included in the statement of work I got. But when I arrived down there while they working, it turns out they didn't actually have a plan for removing the wood that day. The story I got was that a neighbor had driven by and said he wanted the wood and would come by and pick it up that day, but they didn't have a name or a phone number. Then the backup plan was that they had a guy who would come by and pick it up in the next couple of days, and I should call them later in the day if the neighbor didn't pick up the wood. So it turned out the wood was picked up, but somehow the responsibility shifted from them to take care of it, to me.
Bottom line: since they did good work, I might contact them again to submit a bit for a subsequent job, as long as it was in the context of getting competitive bids and the statement of work was totally precise. Otherwise I would not trust them to manage the job well.
Also, while I didn't pay extra for complete stump removal they took it down so low that I was able to cover that spot with some dirt and I can't tell where it was.
I would say the only thing I was unhappy with (which isn't a big deal, since I was home) was that they tried to stack the logs right next to my kids playhouse and in the middle of my bushes. I had to ask to have them moved. The guy I asked then had to ask Colin for permission (Colin, of course, said "Well get it done!"). Then as they were leaving I noticed that none of the patio furniture/fire pit had been put back, so I had to run out there to get someone to help me move it back (which they were happy to do). But I think if I hadn't been home (which was the original plan), I would have been upset when I came back at the state of the back yard and where the logs would have been stacked.
Lastly, they had some equipment stolen from their truck while it was in my driveway. Which they were upset about, but overall took it well. I hope they found it!
"Thank you So Much! Hope you are doing well. Adam"
I found that tree removal is a pretty competitive field right now. I had two vendors offering to undercut the lowest bid.
AG Tree wasn't one of those vendors - nor was it the lowest bid - but I had a pretty good feel from the guy who came out to look at the job. We are talking about dropping two 80' halves of a tree, part of which was leaning over my house and part leaning over my neighbor's. I needed to feel good about the team's expertise, attention to detail, sensitivity to what a residential customer wants in a neighborhood setting - not, say, a commercial customer asking to clear trees from the future site of an apartment complex on a huge plot of land.
I wrote to AG Tree and said hey, you're not the lowest price bid, but I'll give you the job at the quoted rate if you can throw in some stump & root grinding - and that's what we did.
It took all day. They filled up the chipping truck and had to leave some debris for me to dispose of via yard waste bin, and my yard was pretty well rid of grass in addition to the shallow roots they dug up (not sure how they could have avoided that, though). Would have been nice if the bottom of the tree had been left in 12" rounds instead of 18", since I've had trouble getting people to haul them off due to sheer weight, but 18" is what we agreed to, so there you go.
All in all a good job, no disasters, great price, nice team, and I am sleeping better now that I don't have to worry about a windstorm taking down my house. Definitely will hire again for tree trimming etc. once the pocketbook recovers from this and my other new homeowner expenses.
They came out and worked for about three hours, and they filled up their truck with bushes. It was a lot of work but they worked very hard and did a good job. I don?t think they anticipated how much work it was going to be. They had done work for my neighbor and he recommended them. They were really professional, they worked hard, and they really got in and did the job. I would call them again if I needed tree removal or other heavy yard work done again. They stuck to their fixed price.
