Western Van is an irresponsible mover who will not own up to its claimed property damages. They cost me $2350 in repairs that I will have to pay for the following irreplaceable items::
l. a one-of-a-kind Japanese silk doll: $900
2. a rare festival doll: 600
4. 3-sacred Japanese scrolls: 500
Additionally, his men broke and chipped many smaller items, which I did not list because the owners were so uncooperative. Indeed, I caught one of them breaking several souvenir plates on the floor. When I apprised the younger owner of this worker, he reassigned him to the kitchen, where he promptly commenced dropping my dishes, bowls and utensils. His packers caused numerous damages to lamps, dolls, smaller picture frames and decor of value to me and my late wife.
The Japanese silk doll, as mentioned above, was brought to America by my wife's Great-grandmother from Nagoya, Japan, in 1912 as a traditional wedding gift. It was given to her daughter at her wedding in1943 at the Gila Internment Camp of WWII. When my wife and I were married in 1978, it was in turn given to her. Now it awaits restoration, such that I may send it to the niece, but WVand S will not have it done.
I have lived in 4 States, 5 SMSAs and many cities in my time. I have hired a host of movers to transfer my belongings.. Some were better, and some worse. Western Van and Storage is by far the most calamitous BECAUSE ITS OWNERS ARE IMMUNE TO RECOMPENSE AND ITS WORKERS ARE LAX AND UNPROFESSIONAL. To use them for relocation places your goods at undue risk and exposes you to needless anxiety and melancholic depression..
Had I known of their ineptitude beforehand, I would never have ever called them because my possessions are too precious to be damaged forever.
The packers showed-up on time and were professional and expedient. The next day our packed belongings were loaded by Allied Van Lines, the driver was Arturo, who is out of LA. Arturo and his crew were extremely professional and expedient as well. Arturo showed-up at our new Arizona home as scheduled, unloaded quickly. Not one item was broken or missing. I highly recommend Steve Lombardo from Western Van and Storage Co he was fair and professional, I also highly recommend their packers and Allied Van Lines/Arturo out of LA.
.We interviewed others but Matt impressed us with his practical knowledge of Mercer Island (eg recommending small trucks) and experience. WVS was totally responsive throughout the move. Matt even dropped off used boxes dropped later the same day we interviewed him.
On moving day, there was confusion initially about our deadline. I couldn't see how we'd manage to get out on time. But Joe and the crew truly hustled all day and brought in reinforcements twice to deliver on their promise.
I had questions on the final bill but Matt was great about it and more than fair.
Job well done!
I will definitely call Matt for my next move. I give WVS the highest recommendation.
They were very responsive - Steve Lombardo, our contact, came out to our townhouse to do a walk through and give us an estimate, as well as tips on how to lower the cost (how many contractors would do that?). He responded quickly to several emails we sent with questions.
His team arrived on time on the day they packed/loaded and were done sooner than expected, and arrived on time the next day and unloaded quicker than expected. Although we have not completely unpacked everything, so far nothing has been damaged in any way, including the walls/floors of either our old or new house. The team was very courteous, professional, and efficient.
I would definitely hire them again for another move, or recommend them to anyone else. And best of all, our final cost was about $350 below the estimate!
