Chet's Roofing & Construction

This turned out to be one of the best jobs we have hired out to date working on our 1948 house that needs everything repaired. The owner responded when I called the morning they were scheduled and said it was damp and raining here and agreed to come the following day. Workers removed old paper and shingles of the house and unattached 1 car garage, cleaned up, got the city inspector over before the re roof and then completely replaced the house and garage roofing all in 1 sunny day.They schedule the second inspection with the city , came by to check the work themselves on the 12th and it was done.How often does that happen? Anyway the beginning was a little different with an unannounced estimator walking across the roof before 8:00 in the morning. (Scared us and the dog )The owner responded to my complaint with a face to face apology and a sincere care for how his company worked with his customers. We waited until a few rains to make sure everything was dry that we can see before the report and yes we would use them again.

This was the second roof Chet's has put on for us (we moved, their other roof is fine). As before, the work was speedy, courteous, excellent, they were patient with the occasionally flaky homeowners (us) and at a very good price. Right now they are fixing a few minor issues that were identified in the final inspection (one area needs another coat of paint...etc) but they cheerfully took responsibility for these items and I expect it will end up as in the past: flawless. Given the price, I'll give them an 'A'. I hope to never need to buy a roof again, but if I did, I'd get three bids, and make sure Chets was one of them, b/c I suspect they's win yet again and do an excellent job (yet again...)

The overall job was great. They were very fast and very clean.

I didn't use them. I liked that they came out right away to give me the estimate.

We had three bids, Chets was lowest. They were very responsive to phone calls in the office. The roofers worked tirelessly when they were here. (The head carpenter was more of a "thinker.") I was very impressed at their attention to detail in their work, and I'm quite sure I won't need to use their guarantee because it was done right the first time. They left the deck/back yard very tidy every evening. They were quite happy to do the extra work required to reused the old Trex decking (numbering and storing the planks and putting them back exactly as they were--another major roofer we talked with said that would be too much hassle and wanted to replace all the trex at huge expense--more than double our other two bids). Even the wisteria seemed to survive the trauma (they were sort of careful with it). My only two complaints: On the third day no workers showed up even though I'd been told the night before that they would be back in the morning. I called the company finally to find out what the deal was and evidently one of the workers called in sick so they would be back the next day. They apologized for not letting me know. That meant the job got pushed into the following week (vs. finishing on Friday) and we didn't have the use of the deck for Memorial Day weekend as we'd planned. The other complaint was about tidyness. On the first day a LOT of debris fell through into the garage, as we'd been warned. Per their instructions we'd covered everything with sheets. At the end of the day the lead carpenter "swept" the garage but you could barely tell. I said we used the garage as our main entry and egress for our house (because of our dogs). But no attempt was made to clean it further (even though after the second day the roof was sealed and nothing more was falling in the garage). They brought a shop-vac on the last day, but by then we'd borrowed one from a friend and done it because we couldn't stand it so filthy, especially over the holiday weekend. They did keep the deck/yard very tidy, but I think the garage interior was a case of "out of sight, out of mind."

Original estimate was agreed to with the stipulation that the price would increase if additional layers were found. This was clearly explained by the representative, who was very professional and helpful in our understanding as to what would be done and and the pricing. The work was started on time and finished as scheduled. cleanup was good, but not excellent. Again would I use this contractor again: YES Would I recommend them: YES

The repair went great. The work was performed as described and the crew left the property as neat as they found it.

The price included tax. They did the complete roof to my satisfaction. They put in the fence and valleys on my roof and everything that is required. The valleys had not been put in before so that was something new that they did which I really appreciated. They did the job in one day. They had 8 people not counting the 2 other people who brought the parts and the material. I had at one time at least 10 people on my roof during the day. I was satisfied with their work. They were on time. They cleaned up exactly like they said they would. They left everything in perfect order. I am totally satisfied at this moment with the job. The price was reasonable. I certainly would recommend them to my family and friends.

They were great. They were on time, and they did the work. They made good recommendations. The roof still holds water.

After a incomplete diagnosis by one of his estimators, Chat himself figured out the solution that had eluded other roofing companies for years. The work was done under very difficult weather conditions on time. At one point I overheard Chat tell one of his men, "I don't care if takes longer, we're going to do this the right way." That says everything I need to know: not cheap, but an eccellent job.

Chet's Roofing estimator was prompt and efficient, friendly and knowledgeable. This was part of a inspection for a home sale for my buyers. Chet's said it would not be smart to just make the repairs as they were extensive and that it would be almost as much to repair as it would to replace. The seller ended up agreeing and although the seller got other bids, he ended up going with Chet's Roofing bid. AND they got the job done in a matter of days. I've used Chet's before in my real estate business and they have always been responsive, fairly priced and do good work.

They did an excellent job. The manager of the company listens to what you have to say, and he was several times less than what others had estimated me. I was very happy with the. They were very reasonable and of good quality. They answer promptly to your questions. He had good rating on Angie?s list as well.

Had two roof leaks that were creating water problems in the interior of our house. Selected Chet's Roofing from Angle's list based on the A rating and review comments. They came out quickly and inspected the roof and gave us an estimate for the roof drain replacement and repairs with options for other recommended repairs. They were able to schedule our work within a week and were there on schedule and completed the work the same day. We had a couple of major rains since the fix and we no longer have water coming into the house. Reasonable price, A rated experience.

I called in the morning because I was fed up with the recurring leak. It was raining, my ceiling was wet again. We had called a roofer in the past who could find nothing wrong - possibly because he didn't bother going up on the roof and checking close up! When I called Chet's they were able to send someone out to my house that same afternoon. And, when I discovered I had run out of checks in my checkbook I was able to call the office and she ran my credit card over the phone. The actual repair took about 15 minutes, and I paid the minimum $250 happily. The people I spoke with were courteous, friendly and professional. And did I mention my roof no longer leaks?!

The two workers were prompt, knew what had to be, explained how it would be done. They completed the work in a reasonable time - about 6 hours. Left no debris.

When I was given the detailed estimate from Chet's, he said the type of shingles I wanted to use were going to be $300 more. They have a preferred brand, but because I wanted to use Owens Corning, it would cost more. He quoted me for work I did not need to have done. I called him back to remove that from my estimate and also mentioned the discount, which he said he had already given to me. However, we did not discuss any discount previously. So, Chet's gave me a 2nd quote. I'm not sure if I will use them for my roofing project.

We had 6 quotes- all A rating companies w/ AL. And we decided to go with a company that offered a lifetime warranty on labor although it may not be necessary b/c we were told that most problems with new roofs happen within a year. But it just "felt" better knowing we have that and didn't pay any more for it. PLUS, after reading more reviews on Chet's, it helped steer us away from them-although they had many As recently and a coupon in the book, the few stories that weren't an A bothered us. BUT, their price was competitive. I was impressed with how quickly Chet's responded. They came over to our house twice b/c we found out later that our HOA required other materials than our first bid listed. HOWEVER, I did NOT like that when they came over the 2nd time, they didn't knock on the door and just started climbing on the roof. My dogs were barking and then I heard the steps. I don't know if they did that the first time b/c my husband was the one who was home and he couldn't recall. Not a huge deal, but still a little unprofessional.

I went out for 7 bids from the top rated companies from Angies List. I expected to go with a middle bid, but was blown away with this Company. I recieved bids ranging from $4100 to $8500 on the roof alone, and 4 bids on gutters ranging from $600-$1400. They came in at the low end of both bids, and they don't require payment until the job is completed to your satisfaction. This is a professional family run company with a crew of workers that have been intact for about 10 years. They were proactive and responsive to any of my concerns or needs. Their crew was their promptly in the morning and by 5 PM I had a glorious new roof and shinny new gutters. Clean up was wonderful, and they even touched up some paint for free that wasn't part of the job. I had one rotted sheet of plywood that they replaced and painted to match my house for $50 (what a bargain!!!) David did the bid and was very good at explaining the process since this is my first roof experience. I hired an independent roofing inspector who thought they did a great job, and upon final inspection I gladly paid them in full. I would recommend that you don't waste your time with their "competition" because the maticulous leg work I did on hiring for this project proved that Chet's is the only way to go. Our roof looks great. It is level and a nice color, it matches our garage roof. The crew came early and they went right to work removing the old roof. I've never watched the process, it was interesting! The crew was efficient and well organized. Once the roof was removed, the truck left with the debris. Immediately the repairs were done and the sky lights were removed. I would suggest a drop cloth placed inside the house to catch all the loose dirt and dried up glue or whatever that falls from the removal of the sky lights. While the space was open for the new sky light, every thump of a hammer or tug on a sheet caused more debris to fall inside the house. I love the new glass sky lights, what a difference when the sun is shining. It's glorious! We have a wood stove in our family room. The pipe comes up through the roof. This was a detail that probably should have been mentioned and discussed beforehand. We assumed they knew about the pipe and how to work with it or around it. We had the pipe doubled for insulation purposes when it was originally installed. After the roof was completed, we noticed the pipe was off center. My husband went up on the roof and checked it out. The inner pipe was not positioned properly inside the larger outer pipe. This was immediately taken care of the next day. I need to mention once again that our roof is very nice, we are pleased with the overall experience. The one last thing I must mention is the need to communicate exactly what is needed and what is expected and written in the contract. We, once again assumed that replacing the shingles on the top of the bay windows was a normal procedure. We asked for matching shingles to look uniform with the new roof. We didn't expect the siding to be disturbed and cut through, leaving definite cuts visible. We were not informed of in the area of all the details that were necessary to replace and prevent leaks and any damage to the bay windows. The end result above the bay windows was an unfinished, unprofessional looking shingle replacement. This was not acceptable. We had a brief discussion with the gentleman in charge, he was left with repairing and finishing the job properly. At first, my husband and I , along with the gentleman weren't quite sure how to resolve the situation. He seemed satisfied with the appearance and considered the job complete. After some further discussion and a phone call to the office, he made arrangements to make all repairs necessary. Once the repairs were done and we were satisfied, he left with full payment. This was our first time with a new roof. We appreciate having a new roof, no worries about leaks or the next wind storm tearing off more shingles. Be sure to read and re-read the contract. Have them explain the whole procedure and ask all your questions and be sure to get the answers you are seeking. Don't assume anything, that will protect you and your investment and the company that you hire to do a job. The clean-up was good. A-

The work crew showed up at the time agreed upon. They promptly began tearing off the old roof. I had to leave for college class after they started to work. When I returned after several hours they were installing the new roof. They finished a little after 5:00pm. They started at 9:00am. Everything was cleaned up before they left.

I requested an estimate for roof replacement. They looked at the roof and sent me a professional estimate in a folder with some very important information. The information was valueable for anyone hiring workman of any kind to work on their home. Their price was a little high for my job, but I would consider them again for another job. I was pleased with their professionalism.

They were terrific. I don't remember the cost, but it was a lot. I just thought they were great for the price. They were competitive. They were very experienced and they had a good reputation. They were good to work with. I can't say much on the quality of work because we can't see the work they did. You don't know about a roofing job until it gives way, but our impression was that they did a really good job. They were like a life saver in a way. Roofing jobs are very expensive and we were trying to avoid that if we could. They were on time. The only issue I had with them was that they and others like them dart from one job to another in order to survive and we understood that.

My experience with them went just fine. We have had shingles blow off and a few problems and they have been real good about coming out and doing a good job of thatching up the shingles. They have also been out in rain storms to fix leaks.

They came promptly and provided a written estimate after they had finished inspecting the job. They responded promptly to all my phone calls and questions. When I had decided to have them do the job they indicated that they would start the job the following week. [This was on Friday] They called on Monday and said the crew would be there the following morning. They arrived before 8 AM, unloaded the shingles and other material and promptly went to work. They stripped off the old roofing, showed me the roof decking that needed to be replaced, and set to work replacing the sheeting. They protected our decks with plastic covers to catch any debris, and worked carefully around our landscaping. They finished roofing the house before 3 PM, cleaned the gutters, picked up all the debris, and used a blower to clean the decks. They were very professional and I would recommend them to anyone looking for a quality roofer.

Chet's did a great job overall. They explained why they'd tear off the one-layer roof that was there and install the new roof over a high quality rain barrier so they could ensure the new roof (CertainTeed Landmark TL lifetime) would lay correctly. We researched roofing techniques and materials extensively on our own and compared Chet's with 4 other roofers. We'd previously had a repair done by Chet's and were impressed by their promptness and honesty, so that was a plus, but Chet's also won this bid and job by using good materials at a good price. We've recommended them to friends and acquaintances, and they've been pleased with Chet's too.
