+ -1 moreExcellent work done. The job was started and completed on schedule. Each day the debris was cleaned up before the workmen left for the day. There was a slight problem with one spot on the roof, and they returned immediately when called.

+ -1 moreInitial contact with Rick very pleasant and professional. However, after that things deteriorated, I needed to call them about scheduling and to find out when it was going to happen. Only phone call they initiated was to call me at 7:00 am to say they were not coming because of a sick call. Job started by one crew and finished by another\flashing around lower pipe had to be fixed by the fellow who came to do the sign-off. They stepped on and killed some of the plants in my yard and knocked down a low stone wall (none of this was near the house or the roof work). I was promised a copy of the roof warranty would be mailed to me and I've never received it. I did have the foresight to have the fellow who did the sign-off note the warranty on the invoice. I was given an additional $200.00 off beyond the Angie's List discount for my troubles.
Description of Work: Original job to fix leaks around drainage pipes and fix flashing on back addition. Discovered shingles to old and brittle so ended up replacing roof on addition. I totally understood the need for the roof replacement and it does not influence my comments below.

+ -1 moreWe called and the estimator came within days, spent quite a bit of time talking with us about our options for the roof (and even some other projects that aren't in Chet's ambit), and left us with a detailed estimate. I pursued numerous bids before we chose a contractor and Chet's was by far the easiest company to work with and the cheapest/most honest; others (all apparently respected roofing companies) tried to sell us more work than we thought necessary, all took at least several days (sometimes weeks) to return a bid. One even declined to give an estimate once they looked at the roof. Chet's scheduled the job for two weeks out, as they promised, but pushed it back by nearly a week, then neglected to call to tell us that they'd bumped it again by an additional day. Once they started the job, they were great about cleaning up after themselves and keeping us apprised of the status. They checked with us before completing some extra work and charged us exactly what they'd promised.
Description of Work: Re-roofed a significant portion of our home.

+ -1 moreThe salesman, Uri, seemed very knowledgeable, honest and experienced. Seems like a nice guy. I chose this contractor over others because of this and they addressed well my concerns. I was worried still, so the owner Chet came out and impressed me further. The weather was iffy, and it was a big job, so they moved the schedule to get me started earlier than planned. Impressive! The crew was fast, well behaved and experienced. We are very close to the neighbors house and they were very responsive to them as well and cleaned up every night. The final product was excellent and neighbors commented how nice it looked and how fast and well they worked. The only hiccup was additional charges for the gutter removal, that were not discussed. No extra charge for this was hinted until the $175 showed up on the bill. This is not out of line, but per contract, I thought they would discuss any $$ additions before we started. Overall, they did a fantastic job!
Description of Work: 1920's Tudor Revival (Architecturally significant house). Remove original roof wood shakes and next layer of composite. Very steep pitch in some places and difficult ridges, valleys, rooflets, dormers, etc. Remove old wood gutters. Installed new plywood, venting as required and soffet vents. Replace with Landmark Lifetime Warranty product.

+ -1 moreWhen I initially contacted Chet's Roofing, the office staff told me they would call back to set up an appointment. Instead, someone just showed up. This occurred before we closed on the purchase of the home in question, which caused some concern on the part of the sellers. I then re-scheduled with Linda in the office. On the appointed day, I called to confirm, and they said they had no record of the appointment. I rescheduled for a second time. The second time, I called to confirm, and they said that the roofer was on another job, and wouldn't be able to get to my job for a few more days. I rescheduled a third time. The third time, I called to confirm, and was given the cell number of the person who was to do the actual work. I called him, and he said that nobody told him about the job, and that there was no way he could do it that day. I asked him who was the most reliable person in the office to talk to, and he essentially replied "nobody". I then gave up. Horrible.

+ -1 moreOverall our experience was good. A few bad things: The crew left old nails ALL OVER our driveway and yard. (I'm still finding nails). While they were backing up the refuse truck they knocked off the electric meter and originally wanted us to fix it! After many phone calls (while we were at work) a real electrician was called and replaced and installed a new meter base. The bid preparer wrote work into the contract that the crew could not do and said they never do (bathroom fans and venting). After negotiating with the manager we were compensated for the nails, uninstalled bathroom fans/vents. On a positive note: The work was extraordinarily fast and the crew was friendly. We are very satisfied with the final outcome of the work and appreciate the way they listened to our complaints and comments.
Description of Work: Full re-roofing of two buildings and gutters. Removal of old roof. Installation of a new sky-light. Installation of vent fan for attic.

Description of Work: Roof repair. Had some three tab shingles replaced along with two leaks that needed attention. After first try one leak still existed, they came back a second time and fixed it.

+ -1 moreReally impressed with the work and the price. Have to say they were not great on communication, but from what I understand that is normal in the industry. My rep didn't return a call with a question until I called again- a week later. They also didn't schedule the work to be done with me. They just showed up. Luckily, I was home. Please do not misunderstand- everyone is very nice, just not proactive on communication. Again, my husband and I are happy with the repair and would call them again, we would just be more proactive with communication.

+ 0 moreExcellent work and value on the roof including very professional attitude and actions from everyone from the initial estimator on through the roofing crew. The gutters are a disappointment with regard to fit detail and downspout noise. I think they did an okay job on the gutter install but it's a case of "one size fits all" and their stock gutter / downspout arrangement was not a good match for my house. The "B" rating on work quality is due to dissatisfaction with the gutters. The roof job was a solid "A" in all respects. The "B" rating on professionalism is also only with regard to the gutters and mediocre response to the issues. As noted above everything related to the roof job was of "A" quality.
Description of Work: Replacement of shake roof with composition material. House is a mid-70's split level in the Bothell area. Plywood sheeting under the shakes was in good condition. They also replaced the gutters and downspouts. The $5,168 "amount paid" includes WA state sales tax.

+ -1 moreOur experience as a whole was very very good. It was easy to communicate with both their offfice and people in the field. They did what the written estimate said they would, and more. They performed the work in the time they said they would, even though they did twice the work. The estimated price was exactly the price we paid. We were happy to learn that they do more than just roofing, but also construction and remodeling. They cleaned up after themselves to near perfection. And, honestly, we had never heard of Chet's Roofing before we learned about them from Angie's List. This was a fabulous experience for us; many thanks to all for a job well done!
Description of Work: Reroof flat stand-alone garage roof, hot tar method. Our garage roof leaked in three places last spring. We checked Angie's List for a roofing contractor and hired Chet's. Our call was answered right away and their estimator arrived on the appointed day. Work was to be done at our duplex, which actually has two garages. This is where the good part begins! When the work crew arrived early on the promised day, they mistakenly began work on the wrong roof. Because we don't live there, we didn't realize what was happening, but soon they apparently did. To the company's credit, they not only finished the roof they started on, and beautifully, but they then re-roofed the original leaky garage. What's more, they only charged us for one roof, but we got two! This is a company with integrity in spades, and we are pleased to have this opportunity to spread the word. We are thrilled to recommend Chet's Roofing & Construction. We own several properties and you can bet we'll be lifetime customers.

+ -1 moreWe were happy with their installation. The workers were polite and nice. They cleaned up every day. It only took two and a half days and we thought it would take longer than that. The top grade composition was very thick and they had to replace the ridge cap. The ridge cap was lower quality, so we asked them to take that off and put on the right quality. We also had to ask for lien releases for the material and labor. They did not provide them. They did provide the labor but not the material release. I had to make a trip to Stoneway Roofing to pick it up, they had promised twice to mail it and didn't. While we were happy with the men that did the work, the office staff spoiled the experience. I would not recommend them to anyone else.
Description of Work: They put on a new top grade composition roof and tore off the old shake roof.

At the end of each day, they reviewed the work that had been done. Chet's kept every thing cleaned up. They even liked our dogs. Jorve wanted $10,000 more for less roof.

The price was competitive; we had other bids that were much higher. The work was scheduled the following week and was completed in two days. The crew was very efficient and cleaned up at the end of the day. After the work was done, one of their inspector s walked the roof with me, explained what had been done, made sure it was done correctly and that I was completely satisfied. The quality of work was excellent; we are very happy and highly recommend Chet s.

+ -1 moreConsistently late in returning calls or for scheduled appointments. Picked them because they had the lowest initial bid. Had to fax in contract twice because they apparently didn't notice the first fax. Weeks later my gutters are removed and I get a phone call saying the price was 2.5x their low bid and 60% more than their "worst case" bid. Spent a couple weeks playing phone tag with their management. Talked them down to a more reasonable price. After that they did good work professionally.
Description of Work: Removed old cedar gutters. Replaced rotting fascia. Installed new aluminum gutters.

+ -1 moreThe initial appointment needed to be postponed a few days due to rain (given the time of year); however, on the second occasion the team of workers arrived punctually, worked hard and efficiently, and did an excellent job. On the first day they drove their truck and pickup onto both of my next door neighbors'lawns, and I am still waiting for these to be repaired. On the second day their roofing supplier's truck damaged the lawn and sidewalk of my neighbor across the street, but they immediately came out to take pictures, and have already rebuilt the sidewalk.

They sent an estimator and then when I put a deposit down to do the job Chet, the owner, was always available by cell phone if needed. Their crew and equipment were professional and oh so fast! They cleaned the entire area afterwards.
Description of Work: Complete roof replacement from wood shake to composition material. Also at the last minute after they removed the old roof I asked them to blow in more insulation in the attic before the new roof was installed. They were very responsive and fair in their pricing.

HE WAS $300 CHEAPER THAN THE NEXT HIGHER BID. EVEN CLEANED THE GUTTERS. THEY FINISHED THE HOUSE IN ONE DAY. AMAZING! WHEN IT WAS FOUND THAT I NEEDED PLYWOOD SUB-ROOFING IN A WATER DAMAGED SPOT, THE ROOFER REPLACED IT, BECAUSE IT WASN'T IN THE BID AND I WASN'T NOTIFIED AHEAD OF TIME, CHET COVERED THE COST WITH NO COMPLAINT. I CAN'T RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY ENOUGH.
