Al seems to have done a good job, but I’ll never be entirely sure, because he told me that as long as the repairs didn’t include a design change, then a city permit and inspection is not required. NOT TRUE. Also, his quote was deceptive. He itemizes, as should be done, but the largest number, that for labor, was written in a separate box, which lead me to believe it was the total. (He claims that not writing a quote total is “industry standard”. Again, NOT TRUE.) I’d chalk it up to my own stupidity, but when I mentioned the amount that I thought was the total on day two of the job, he did not set me straight. So imagine my shock when the job cost DOUBLE what I expected, and I wasn’t made aware of that until the job was done. Also, he left debris in my attic and mortar in my rain gutters. According to the Better Business Bureau, his company used to be called ACE. With me, his company was ARCON. Why the name change? In light of all these things, I cannot recommend Al to anyone. In fact, I’d strongly recommend against him.
