A good job, as usual. Kirby's prices are a bit above average but the quality of both the workmanship and the paint are worth it. I have used this company for both painting interiors and exteriors and have always been very satisfied with the outcome.

We needed to get the exterior of our house painted this fall before the weather got too bad. Kirby was able to get a crew on it within a few days. They did a great job in a very timely manner, were polite and respectful, and cleaned up beautifully when they were done.

Fantastic! I never needed to point out any spots that needed touching up, nor did I ever have to say that the work was subpar. Money speaks louder than words, and I would put the money back to have Kirby Works return and paint for me in the future!

I've hired Kirbyworks for a number of other painting projects. I generally pick the colors and Kirby (the owner) picks the type of paint and the sheen. Kirby appears to select good quality paint (Sherwin-Williams). Bedo, the painter, always does a very good job. This project was no different. I would note two items about hiring Kirbyworks that don't particularly bother me, but might bother others. One is the vagaries of weather and the availability of only one painter, a homeowner may not know exactly what days painting will be done until the day before. The other consideration is that Bedo's grasp of English is poor so some questions that arise on the job site need Kirby's intervention if the homeowner doesn't speak Spanish. I do wish that Kirby would provide Bedo with a better ladder. What he has seems inadequate and unsafe.

They were really good but it turned out being a lot more expensive than the original bid. It was great when he helped me choose a color. He is excellent on that part. It did just in the costing a lot more because we needed a primer. They did a good job. The work was great.

The job was adequate, not an excellent job.  I won't use them again because I expect better quality if you're going to hire a painter.  This is a rental house they painted; it was adequate.  It was tremendously positive it was okay but he didn't do a great job.  The clean-up was decent; he got almost everything cleaned up but he; left some things on I have to remove later.  It's not terrible and common especially for what I paid I think I paid a little bit less.  He did a little bit of effort but I did most of the effort.
Response from The Kirbyworks Company
"I feel like this is a case of mistaken identity since you had nothing but good to say at the time and actually did call us back for another estimate. I don't know what you mean by "He did a little bit of effort but I did most of the effort." That just doesn't sound like something we worked on."

I loved the way they painted and cleaned up and so respectful of all living things, ie plants, dogs, etc.  We have lots of plants all around our house and nothing was damaged. Beto is the best.
I can't say enough about Kirbyworks. They are the best.  They were punctual and the whole experience was A+  This is really corny, but we missed them when they were through so they painted our neighbors home and are doing another one on this street this spring.

Gave advice to cut costs, also provided excellent advice on color selection for ceilings.  When the wall color didn't turn out as expected, he made two trips to the paint store and arrived at the best color.  Excellent workmanship and supervision.

I called for an estimate, Kirby came out looked over the requested work and provided me an estimate on the spot. We were not in a hurry for the work to be done, and waited until the house was completely empty. Kirby's team came in and prepared the house for a entire repainting of the interior, every room and every wall and ceiling. It took about 4 days to complete and the work was very acceptable. The interactions I did have with Kirby and his team were very professional and I would recommend KirbyWorks to anyone that is looking for a quality professional service.

I selected Kirbyworks to paint the interior of my house based upon Angie's List reviews.
My agreement with Kirby was that I would specify the colors to be used, but he would determine the brand and sheen of the paint.  I believe that Sherwin-Williams paint was used throughout the house.
I paid 50% of the agreed-upon price prior to the start of the project and the remaining 50% upon completion.  Since I paid cash, I don't know if the company accepts credit cards.  I graded price as a B because the price is higher than average, but I knew that to be the case before I hired the firm.
The project took multiple (6?) full days of work for one of Kirbyworks' painters. The same painter did my entire project, which I appreciate.  Some surfaces were rolled; some were sprayed.  The painter carefully patched cracks and nail pops and then texturized these spots to match the surrounding wall.  Once painted, I can't tell where the imperfections were.  This attention to detail is why I was willing to pay a premium price.
The final product looks great; I am happy enough that I have already asked Kirbyworks to do some exterior painting.

1/21/2014 Update: Kirbyworks performed additional painting for me throughout 2013 as part of the remodel of my house.  Beto (his main painter) is excellent at his job. I believe that high quality paint was used throughout.
Because the interior remodeling of my house was done in stages, the painting was necessarily spaced out over the year.  Kirby was good about accommodating my schedule.  In total, I paid Kirby ~$10,000. That cost was higher than it needed to be because some areas were painted more than once when I changed my mind on the color.  I don't blame Kirby for that!
Response from The Kirbyworks Company
"Thank you. We're looking forward to doing some more painting for you."

Painted difficult skylights, high ceilings and trim professionally.  Carefully matched paint as requitred.  An independent professional painter inspected the finished painting project and reported high quality work.

I contacted Kirby while we were still in escrow in a new home purchase to see about having him come in and repaint the upstairs bedrooms.  The previous owners had some wild colors up there and we needed to tone things down.

He worked with my realtor to come into the house, take measurements and provide an estimate.  We closed on a Friday and he was willing to work over the weekend to have the house ready for us the following week.

The job wasn't scheduled to start until Saturday morning, but we closed early in the day on Friday and Kirby and Beto showed up Friday afternoon to get an early start.  They worked through the weekend, were professional and courteous throughout, and the results are amazing.  We have some complicated tray ceilings and vaulted ceilings in the bathroom, with lots of odd angles, and yet the detail work was great.

All in all, a very solid job.  Kirby clearly takes pride in his work.

The work was completed quickly, carefully and professionally.  A very detailed discussion and examination of the house was completed as part of the estimate.  I felt very confident in the owner's knowledge and expertise.  The 2 workers were skilled.  One worker displayed a better work ethic than the other.  This worker completed the final walk through and touch-up spending as much time as needed to ensure I was happy with the final results.

They were excellent! The only slight drawback was that the gentleman who provided me with the estimate wasn’t present when crew arrived to start the job. However, the crew was very particular and detail oriented. There were no drippings, and they cleaned up after themselves incredibly well. Overall, I had a wonderful experience.

I initially asked for him to come on one of my Fridays off, but he called and said that he had an opening the next day and would that be okay instead.  I wasn't thrilled about taking time off of work, but I agreed because I wanted to get the work done.  He and his worker were there promptly the next morning at 7:00 to start, and then Kirby left to get the stain while the worker started sanding. The worker had finished sanding by 10:00 or so, and still Kirby had not returned with the stain.  The worker hung around for another 45 minutes or so and then said he was going to lunch.  No word was given about when anyone would be back - I waiting as long as I could, but I had to take my daughter to soccer practice at 1pm, so I ran her to the school about a mile away, and when I got back the worker was there.  He told me that he was about to leave because I was not home.  That was my first indication that communication with Kirby and his team was going to be an issue.  Kirby showed up a short time later with the stain - now well past 1pm.  I was having serious doubts about the work getting done that day, so I asked if it was still going to be possible.  Oh yes - Kirby said they would put the stain on now, come back in two hours (about 3:30pm) and put the first coat of quick dry varnish on, come back again at 5:30pm, and then come back again at 7:30pm for the last coat.  Well, the first two times went off without a hitch, but at 5:30pm I asked the worker if he would be back at 7:30pm and he gave me a blank look and said "If my boss tells me to, I will".  In other words, Kirby did not pass this info on to the worker and he was not coming back that evening.  Nor did he come the next day, nor the next day, nor the next day.   Nor did I get a phone call from Kirby about rescheduling the last coat.  It was simply dropped.  I waited about three days then I called Kirby back and asked him when he was going to finish - no apologies, no "I am so sorry we did not get it finished like we said we would", nothing.  Just - "Okay, when do you want us to come and finish?" like it was no big deal that they left the job undone.  I was getting pretty angry at this point, and I started really looking at the work that they had done (I had not gotten down and examined in detail because they were not done yet).  I noticed that, as Kirby had told me would be the case, one area of the board near the kitchen did not take the stain very evenly because of water damage in the wood - however, I was expecting that.  I was NOT expecting the following, however:  stain slopped up over the masking tape onto my freshly painted wall, imprinted fabric marks (little checkerboards!) in the stain in some areas where the application cloth must have sat too long, and other areas that were just plain splotchy (see photos).  I had asked Kirby at the beginning whether he had done much staining, and he said said yes - that may be true, but I am really wondering if his worker had done much.  Kirby's worker did eventually come and finish the work, and the stain color does match the flooring very well, but I was pretty disappointed in Kirby's overall performance - mostly in the area of communication and follow through.  Since the stained area is at floor level, the fact that it is not perfect is not as critical as it would be if it were at eye level - otherwise I would have had him redo it.
*************************
I am updating this report on 10/14/11.  Kirby contacted me shortly after I posted the above review, and came over to look at the work.  It turns out that he did call me back and leave a message, but somehow I never got it - not sure if it was the home phone where somebody cleared the message, or my good old AT&T cell phone, where voice mails have been known to disappear into the void. He looked at the checkerboard pattern in the stain and told me that it was caused by the machine that planes the wood when it is cut.  I was still a little dubious because the wood felt perfectly smooth when I ran my hand over it, and I would expect to feel bumps if it was marked by a planer - but he knows a lot more about wood than I do, so maybe he is right...  At any rate, since it was under our bar area and not noticeable, we agreed that it did not need to be restained.  He looked at the splotchy area and agreed to re-sand and re-apply stain to that section of board.  He asked if I wanted him or his worker to do the work, and I said that I would prefer if he did it, so he did come back and re-stain the board himself.  It took quite a long time to do the work because there was a section of the board that refused to take the stain (that had previously stained just fine).  Kirby then realized that the sander had been getting too close to the tile floor grout and picking up some of the waxy sealant and spreading it around the edge of the board, so he cleaned it with solvent and sanded the board down one more time, making sure not to get too close to the tile.  That time the board took the stain nicely - it looked great!  However, in the process of all the stripping and resanding, Kirby accidentally sanded a couple spots on the dark laminate floor molding under the board he was staining, so he ended up having to replace the floor molding.

I have to say that once Kirby knew there was a problem, he worked very hard to resolve it.  Based on Kirby's efforts to resolve the work problems, I am revising my ratings of Quality, Professionalism, and Overall Experience to B.

It was a great situation overall.  From the bid to the work was within a weeks time and I'm having them come back and do some interior painting as well!
