We had to follow up several times to get a complete quote. We paid a 50% deposit. The railing that was delivered was not the product quoted (quoted material was higher cost of course). Luckily, the quoted material was adequately documented and BYBD provided the correct railing when shown the quote. We paid the final 50% when all was installed believing the promise that they would pick up the rest of the debris. Two months later, one of the cross boards has sagged ~1/2 inch. We have called 4 times plus one office visit to ask that the sag be fixed and the remaining debris removed. One would think on a $25K project, we would get a return call but I guess once they collected the final payment, promises and guarantees are not honored.

It was superb! Jake gave us an estimate to replace the horizontal surface of our 20 year old deck with Trex. He was extremely professional and took his time to be sure we were on the same page. We were more than happy to wait 4-5 weeks to get the work done. Jake's crew showed up on time and got right to work. When they found more rotten wood beneath the surface planks they had removed, my husband was immediately consulted. He agreed they should replace the rotten pieces. The entire job was completed, and the deck is beautiful! We highly recommend Backyard By Design.

Jake and the crew at Backyard by Design are the greatest! In the design stage, Jake suggested ideas that had not occurred to us, and his ideas were definitely better than what we had in mind. Take-down of the 23-year-old deck and pergola was completed quickly and completely cleaned up. The construction crew was professional and pleasant to work with. When changes or adjustments were needed, they always consulted with us and explained all options. The project was completed more quickly than anticipated, and we are extremely pleased with the results.

Estimate process was smooth and professional. I had the estimate before Jake departed. We exchanged a number emails and text messages so communication was prompt and I got the answers or confirmations as requested. When we awarded the work, materials were ordered and we awaited their arrival. We had a tiny problem with our own electrical parts arriving so work was delayed and we got some spotty weather. When the time came, just before thanksgiving - the crew worked in sub-freezing weather with some wind without complaint. Expected possibly for them to call it off but they powered through it. I was happy to be inside. Work was completed as agreed and the quality is very good - excellent. Payment terms and paperwork etc. were easy and comprehensive.

They showed us a great new design and it came out looking even better than we anticipated. They tore out the old deck, discovered some dry rot and replaced the bad wood, built the new deck and did it all in a timely manner. They did a good job of clean up during and after the deck was built. The workers were polite, friendly and easy to work with. They answered all our questions during the job and did so in a friendly manner. We were very impressed with the job and have received many compliments from our friends.

They started on time, even a couple of weeks earlier than planned as they had a cancellation. They even put in an access piece so a crawl space vent could be reached to place or remove the vent cover. Jason was the lead worker and a very polite and intelligent fellow. He asked us questions about options and he carried out the tasks we decided upon. Jake was the BBD lead who gave us the estimate and managed the job. His descriptions for the work plan and reasons behind specific plans was detailed and intelligent. Now to enjoy the deck!
