Michael Homchick Stoneworks Inc
About us
Michael started the business, then known as Masonry Construction Company, in 1978. Finding more than enough work for a single stonecutter, he hired his first employee in 1982. Ironically, when Michael broke his leg in 1985, the business went through another growth spurt. He was forced to hire more employees to carry out the work and he began spending more one-on-one time with clients. As the company grew, Michael moved operations from his residence to his first marble shop and finally to the current location in Kenmore. The current shop is four times the size of the previous one, providing space for the company’s advanced equipment, wide selection of materials and the current staff of more than thirty stone specialists.

Michael is enthusiastic about quality. He knows history, he knows geology, and he knows design. He made really good suggestions along the way and did a nice job installing the fireplace himself. For the firebox, he was able to make his own bricks out of soapstone for the same price as firebrick. While refining the design, I had a chance to tour his shop twice. He has a very impressive operation, including a decent sized stone yard, computer numerically controlled water jets for intricate designs and mosaics, and massive diamond-blade saws that can cut soapstone like butter.
My particular project was expensive, and rightly so, but I gave Mike an and quot;Aand quot; for price because, even with Mike's resources and craftsmanship, his bid came in about $45 lower than a competing bid from a basic countertop specialist. Whatever you pay for Mike's work will be worth the price.
