"I shouldn’t respond to this review but I won’t have false accusations thrown at my husband. My husband is the most honest contractor you’ve ever met. Hence he ran his business for over 30 years. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for the people who built the decks for us in the last 2 years of business. When we started your project you had too many contractors at your home working. You told us to hold off and you would call us when you were ready. We did. A difficult scheduling thing, but we did. Things did not go smoothly on your job. We did our best struggling with staffing and material shortage issues. We eventually had to make the difficult decision to shut our business down after 30 years. It’s been the worst year I’ve ever been through and I thought the worst year was when COVID hit. When you contacted us recently, Ron told you that we had to close our business and you still chose to write this false, harmful review to hurt his reputation. I have to say, your review shows what a callus person you are and I don’t miss working for people like you one bit! I hope you never have to experience what we’ve gone through but then again maybe you would learn some compassion."
"We are so sorry for what the [Member Name Removed]'s have experienced. After the initial hack was brought to our attention we took immediate action to fix the problem and thought we had until we heard from the [Member Name Removed]'s. We do have protection on all our equipment at all times. But, in this day and age everyone is aware of the dangers of hacking. And, we all know that we should be as diligent as possible to protect ourselves. We take the protection of our equipment and customers information very seriously. That aside, we do make every attempt to answer our phones and respond to emails in a timely fashion. Sometimes, it cannot be helped that we are unable to answer the phone. We do not recognize every number that is displayed, when calling. If a voice mail is not left, we do not follow up on the call. Because we are a business, the amount of spam and unsolicited sales calls we receive is excessive. A voice mail from the customer is helpful if they are trying to reach us. We took some responsibility for the [Member Name Removed]'s experience and offered to reduce the cost of the project by half of the deposit amount. They should take some responsibility for what happened to them as well. The emails they received from the hackers were clearly suspect. They lacked proper punctuation, spelling and did not contain the salesman signature or even a name at the bottom of the emails. As the hacked emails progressed, the terms requested did not follow the contract terms that we provided the [Member Name Removed]'s at all. The bottom line is that all parties have been harmed. The [Member Name Removed]'s are out their deposit and we have lost business and possible future business due to the negative experience and reviews."
Ron (owner) provided both the initial quote and design to rebuild a failing "patio" with a composite deck. Ron set us up to work directly with his demolition subcontractor (Mike) to demolish a failing patio ("deck" covered in concrete). Once patio stairs demolished and materials removed, West Coast then removed final rotted materials, re-insulated and covered an overhang area, and built a new deck that included going through a covered breezeway area. The West Coast work team was led by Ken who did an excellent job with the repairs and creating the new deck.
We strongly recommend West Coast Decks and would definitely use again for any future decking needs.
The initial design was not free, but that meant I felt able to try a number of different options before deciding on a final design. The final design gave an excellent image of how the final deck would like.
The contact with Ron Spillers was dependent on his availability, but when he committed to a time for a consultation, he met that commitment.
I was able to see several deck options in place to determine what I really wanted.
Scheduling the work was not difficult, just depended, again, on his availability.
The final product is exactly as promised. It really enhances the house, and I have numerous compliments from friends.
When one board was spilt on installation, the carpenter replaced if before I even mentioned it.
There might be cheaper options, but I think I got the quality of workmanship that I paid for, and I am very happy with the result.
My deck is gorgeous; my neighbors all have deck envy. It went excellent. The deck is up in the air and is a solid stack so there is no seepage. Underneath is completely dry. The railings are powder coated with glass so it is super-strong. It has an amazing superstructure and is bigger than a lot of people's homes. It is 900 square feet, not including the stairs and there are two sets of stairs. There is closed storage under the deck including a door. The employees were excellent while they were here. I got a bid from another vendor on Angie's List and they wanted to charge me 40-percent more and it did not include the storage area.
Called West Coast Decks and set a schedule for having someone develop an estimate to remove and replace my existing deck. Ron showed up right on the scheduled time. He took measurements, showed me examples of decking material, answered any questions I had and then said he'd email me a firm proposal within a week.
I received his bid, accepted it and was put on the construction schedule to start the work. A week after accepting the bid, I visited Ron's home where I saw a variety of sample decks actually constructed so I could choose from the different materials and colors.
The tear down, removal and clean-up of the old deck took two days. Mike and his crew did a good job and the work site was clean and ready to start building the new deck.
New deck construction started on October 14, 2014. Ron was here on the first day and introduced me to the two-man crew (Kyle & Dustin) who would be building the new deck. Kyle and Dustin were very courteous young men, worked steadily at the job, were responsive to any concerns I had and it was a pleasure to have them on the premises. The job was finished on November 3rd.
All in all, I was highly pleased with the entire process from start to finish.
Ron and his crew were professional in their approach to the job and I would definitely use them again if I needed any deck work done.
