Wouldn't hesitate to call them again.
After being highly recommended by Seattle Lighting and agreeing to what seemed like a reasonable fee for a lighting project in our contemporary house, we engaged Illuminate. The job entailed installation of three recessed lights, two wall sconces, and two arrays of low-voltage track lighting according to a plan proposed by the design representative from Seattle Lighting. At the outset of the project it was explicitly stated that we would be leaving the area for an extend time on 9/17/13, and that we wished to have the job completed by 9/12/13. Robert promised on 8/15/13 that the job would be completed by 9/10/13. Complete diagrams of switching and the placement of the items were supplied to Illuminate on 8/15/13 and again on 8/23/13. After rescheduling three times, work on the job was begun on 8/28/13. During the installation the electrician accidentally broke a large and valuable chandelier that was not directly related to the work, but was in proximity to the recessed lights to be installed. One of the sconces to be installed was damaged in shipping. This also delayed the completion of the job but was not the fault of Illuminate.
The job was obviously going to be delayed, but in hopes of completing it by 9/12/13, I completed some of the drywall work myself?three applications of joint compound and sanding. There was also some misunderstanding about the types of switches to be installed, although we had made it clear on 8/24/13 what type of switches were to be installed.
When the job was not completed on 9/11/13 I sent Illuminate a check for $1200, approximately 2/3rds of the agreed upon price and notified Robert of that. In response, Robert demanded essentially full payment, and threatened to file an Intent to Lien on 9/16/13. Knowing that we were to be leaving on extended trip out of the country on 9/17, this amounted to extortion and I was forced to pay Illuminate 90% of the estimate for a job that was incomplete and had suffered numerous delays that were the fault of Illuminate.
The job was never completed. On 11/6/13 Illuminate made their final visit to the house and replaced the damaged portion of the chandelier with a cheap substitute and installed a replacement for the sconce that had been damaged during shipping, but they never installed a dimmer as had been agreed and promised.
In summary, we dealt with repeated rescheduling, marginal workmanship, ungentlemanly and unethical business practices and a job that was never satisfactorily completed as agreed upon.
Our job took a special skill of being able to solve problems and come up with solutions. I highly recommend them for electrical service.
