Jeff, the owner, correctly diagnosed the problem with the valve. He told me he needed to order the part. He also told me the total should be $400 - $450 for all work provided. I initially wrote him a check for $250 for 1) Initial diagnosis of the problem and 2) Down payment on the part. After he finished the work, he handed me a bill for $375. Adding this to the initial payment of $250, the total bill was $625, or roughly $200 higher than the original quote. I asked why the it was $200 higher than he verbally quoted me and he said he didn't remember quoting me that figure and that the part was $340, which was $120 higher than he originally quoted me. He also showed up 2 hours late for the installation.
