Casey, the owner of Backwoods Construction, is honest, knowledgeable, fair and fast. He fully remodeled my home. There isn’t a part of my house and property that he didn’t touch or guide the work on. He has great ideas, and works very collaboratively. When he says he will do something, it is done on time and well. He is a stand-up guy — there were a couple contractors I hired directly, and more than once he helped resolve issues that popped up with those other contractors, because he can’t abide by poor work or having his clients taken advantage of. I can’t recommend him enough. If you are fortunate enough to get on his calendar, know that you made a good call hiring Backwoods.

A brilliant start - within a half hour of my call, they were at my house to make an estimate. Required a quarter of the payment in advance. Arrived very late morning of the first work day. The foundation and beams replacement are probably okay - the old rotted wood was taken out, and new wood put in. They Worked steadily for a week, but not for all the hours I was billed for. Left several tasks that were in the contract UNFINISHED or even UN-STARTED. "Oh, I forgot we were going to do that..." was the answer I got. Made a terrible mess of the tile floor in the front entry - the tiles they brought were larger than the existing tiles - but instead of cutting them to fit, they just slapped them in - leaving a lot of cement around on walls, etc. - and leaving a very unsightly and uneven-looking floor. The new door does not lock - the placement of the lock is off, so the bolt does not go through. The framing of the door, itself, is slapdash and make-shift looking, and there are very noticeable holes which the trim (such as it is) does not cover. "Just go buy some wood filler..." was the answer I got. The carpentry was done in a great hurry - wood to repair an interior wall was cut too short, leaving a gaping hole above the floor. "Just fill that in or get a piece of trim and you won't see it..." was the answer I got. The original contract for work specified the rain gutter and downspout would be fixed. It NEVER WAS. "Oh, we forgot we were going to do that... just get some elbows and cut some pipe - that'll work..." was the answer I got. The original contract also specified that all trims would be restored as close to original as possible. A 12-foot piece of trim needed to be replaced - they brought a piece that was NOTHING like the original trim in the rest of the room. "Just go to Lowe's and buy a 12-foot length that'll match..." I was told. This, AFTER I had paid, in advance, for all materials, plus 10%. And no rebate for the wood which he then took back and got his - MY - money back. I can NOT recommend these guys. Update: returned to adjust the lock - but still no adjustment for overbilling of hours, and no apology for all the other unfinished work. Sheesh...
