His bid was less than others who would provide comparable quality and about the same as Home Depot which would be lower quality. I looked at local homes he did work on and was very impressed. He does VERY high quality work. We opted for plywood (instead of particle board) interiors and shelves and dovetailed drawers. Other shops would have charged $2-4,000 more for that. The nearest comparable quality bid was $8,000 more. His also included installation (he did NOT want anyone else to install). He is mostly a one man shop with occasional helpers. We made the deposit and thought all was fine. We were delayed in needing them due to our own building problems. Then we were ready and he was not ready to start on them (having taken on more work in the interim). So we had to wait. He consistently underestimated the time to do any of the work. Finally, we got some installed. We asked him to change his order somewhat to provide the units we needed to finish the electrical work and venting prior to other things in order to get a certificate of occupancy sooner. All his work has been excellent! But he is nearly always late in when he says something will be ready. It is annoying. But once we see the quality we are pleased. We are only about half done at this point. He has all the lower units installed and we will get drawers and cabinet doors soon (we had told him we needed certain uppers done before these to speed up other things). He is doing extra things at no charge because he wants the final cabinet to be perfect - such as building a cover around the dryer exhaust vent that needed to go through a cabinet and building a similar cover to hide electrical outlets that needed to go inside the bottom of an upper cabinet. So we are optimistic on the rest of the work. At this stage, it will not hold us up getting in. He is very clean inside the house to not make a mess.
