"I guess there was a misunderstanding. I did not go through all of the expense to change the name of my business over one marginal review. My company name was Kitchen Medics. I changed the name because I was getting too many calls for repairs. That is a service I do not provide. I always say that reface projects take from three to five days. This is stated on my site and paperwork. We took five days because we refaced the kitchen cabinets and installed a new laminate countertop with an under-mount sink. This is why the project was not done in three days. We leave the final touchups for the last day. If the job is inspected prior to our final inspection and clean up folks sometimes assume that items will be left undone. We take pride in our work and in how clean we leave the job site at completion. I am happy that my client was pleased with the work we did. Thanks"
2013 to reface and re-door our kitchen cabinets and to replace four cabinets in
our family room with ?custom? cabinets of the same design within the existing
footprint. The entire project was estimated to take 5 days and to be completed
within 3 to 4 weeks after the contract was signed. The work started a few days
after the projected Start date of July 12 and as of September 22 has not been
completed. The kitchen work was commenced first and, with several delays
(including one so that Rick could do another job) took 12 days to complete. The
family room project has been a nightmare. Many of the materials initially arrived
either missing pieces, incorrectly fabricated or finished on the wrong side.
After weeks, with little communication in the interim regarding the status,
Rick finally began the family room project on August 27-a month and a half
after the original Start date. Three days later Rick left, believing the job
was finished except for some parts (hinges and fasteners) that he would get and
install the following week. In fact, a tall door that is part of the unit does
not fit and was not completely or properly installed and there were numerous
problems with the work including permanent shelves that do not align, nails
protruding through finished material, uneven cuts on surface materials which
allow the old laminate to show, a cabinet door that will not open due to
interference with an adjoining door and a movable unit that was installed without
the casters from the old unit. We immediately sent a list to Rick on September
1st. He returned to examine the work and agreed to correct the
problems except for the misaligned shelves which cannot be corrected without
damaging the entire unit. He said he would have to order a new door to replace
the tall door and would keep us informed of the progress on that and schedule a
time to complete the work. We have heard nothing since. We think that Rick can
do a good job on re-facing cabinets ? but when it comes to more custom work he appears
to be out of his element. He is also completely dependent on his suppliers who,
judging from our experience, either do not perform competently or do not
receive correct specifications.
"The completion of the reface project was because I had to return to cover the old cabinet color on the bottom of the cabinets and did not have the material on hand. This was not part of the original agreement. There is normally an extra charge for this service which I did not charge. My customer was happy with the final results of the reface project in the kitchen. The problem was with the family room project. I was given a $9600 budget to do the kitchen and family room. We were to remove and replace a wet bar and three bookshelves. One of the bookshelves sat on top of the wet bar and another was mounted on casters that opened to expose a hidden door. I explained that the only way to get accurate measurements for the new units was to remove the old ones. The homeowner did not want the old ones to be removed until the new ones arrived. The concrete below the cabinets was not level. This caused one of the shelves on top the wet bar to be 1/4" off. I went on to explain that I could not build furniture grade units and stay within budget. I had to modify standard cabinets and reface them. The problem was trying to get a production shop to do custom work that they normally do not do. It took three tries but they finally got it done. At the final inspection I went through the job and fixed everything that needed attention. I never leave a job undone unless I'm waiting for material I need for completion. I upgraded the material used for the bookshelves from beech to maple at no extra cost and gave the customer a $1000 discount to make up for any inconvenience."
contractor grade oak kitchen cabinets. He gave me great ideas and educated me on different types of services. He provided me with a bid that day.. The bid included two prices because I could not make up my mind between wood cabinets or thermo foil
cabinets. He was very patient and helpful.
Circumstances have forced me to delay the project, so I cannot give any opinion on the quality of the work. But my initial impression is very positive and I will use them in the future.
Although it states in his contract that he is neither a plumber nor electrician, I believe he could have done a bit better. He could have forewarned me. He could have also turned off the water which he did not. Instead leaving a pan under the leak which had overflowed. He did call me at work, and told me that he thought the pan would catch it. And also stated he thought maybe the neighbors could empty the pan. The neighbor had left for the afternoon. Which she had told him that she would be doing.
Called all around for a plumber when I got home, an easy fix, but costly. Again, wish I had been told. Plumber also told me that elec. would have to be up to code, things were loose. Still have to fix this issue.
The caulking was poorly done, and smeared...around the kitchen it had been clear, this was black and clearly not thought out.
Rick left the front door unlocked. Sorry Rick, but, you got sloppy in the end.
"I offer a five year"No Hassle" warranty. I have not been given the opportunity to make things right. I've offered to work with my client and have not yet been contacted. My agreement contains the following statement, in part, with bold lettering. "Old countertops will be removed at customers request. Plumbing and electrical disconnects shall be homeowners responsibility. We will disconnect at customers request but shall be held harmless for any damages caused by disconnects and/or reconnects. * We recommend that reconnects be done by a licensed plumbing and/or electrical contractor". The countertop we installed was black so we used a color matched caulk. My installer was not sure if he should do the small area that did not have a backsplash as he was concerned about smearing it on the paint. When I went back to check out the leak I finished off the caulking and it did get on the paint. There is no way to smooth it out without touching it. We installed a new dishwasher and hooked it up to plumbing that had not been used for years. I disconnected the plumbing and discovered that the leak was coming from inside the wall. I then called my client at work to let her know that I could not make the repair. She told me that she would be home by 3:10 PM. I replaced the container with one that was twice as big as the one left to catch the water. I watched it for a half an hour and estimated that it would not fill in 2 hours. I did not have the tools to shut off the main water supply. When I arrived at the home the neighbor was there to open the door for me. The customer had told me that she was going to leave the key under the matt. I thought she had made other arrangements so I left the door unlocked when I left. I should have checked to see if the key was there before I left."
"We ordered bamboo doors from Elias Woodwork out of Canada. This is the only company that offers bamboo doors to the refacing industry is several colors. We were told that the doors would be done in 18 days and that they would cost $17 per sf. The cost ended up at $25+ per sf. I received my order confirmation on June 1st and we're still waiting. Part of the order was to be shipped on August 15 with the balance of the order shipped a week later. I have to depend on others to do what they say they will do. I can understand why the customer is unhappy. I am too. What the supplier does or does not do is out of my control. We live and learn. I can assure you that I'll never order from this company again."
