"The reface portion of this job took five days to complete. The kitchen was useable for the entire time. We enclosed the kitchen with plastic walls to contain the dust. If dust did escape it was because the family would use the rear door to let the dogs out to do their business several times a day by opening the protective wall. During the project we had to use the garage to cut material as it was raining at the time. We would use a blower to remove the sawdust at the end of each day. It was difficult to clean because it was loaded with material for other projects they had going. At the end of the project I offered to have the home professionally cleaned. The offer was denied. In my agreement I include an arbitration clause for any problems that cannot be resolved through simple conversation. If a customer is unhappy with any part of the project they can withhold part of the final payment until the disagreement can be resolved through arbitration. There are limits to what we can do in retrofit work because not all materials are available to our industry. The problems arose because of custom items ordered. Production shops are not set up for custom work. They tried several times and finally got it right. I told the client that we would make things right and returned to touch things up. I assumed that everything was done to the customers satisfaction because I was paid in full. It has been six months since we completed the project so I was surprised to hear that the customer was unhappy. As for being a smooth talker, I'm not quite sure how to respond. I can't force anyone to do what they don't want to do, especially someone involved in the repair and retrofit business at the management level for a major "Big Box" store. Instead of letting me know what needed to be redone during the project, the customer waited until the last day to voice disapproval in a very animated tone.In the 16 years that I've been doing this type of work nobody has ever spoken to me this way. As shown by my record, I go out of my way to make sure all of my customers are happy with their kitchens. All I can say is that I do my very best. I offer a 2 year warranty on my work."
