"First I would like to apologize to the (Removed members name) who contacted me for a Do-it-yourself plan, for my part in any missed communication, compelling them to post a review here. I had hoped we could have resolved this matter. Second, even though the negative review was written by (Removed members name), she never attended any of the site evaluation, design or plan review meetings regarding the project. Third, I did receive a $700 Deposit towards my $1,200-1,400 Design and Consultation Fee. Fourth, I delivered the Site Plan, Landscape Master Plan and Retaining solutions in a meeting with (Removed members name). At which time he said he liked what had been presented and would like to discuss the plan with his wife. The Landscape Master Plan is the conceptual road map to display the project vision and to identify areas of renovation to provide a solution to a difficult hillside site. The site had poor drainage and all plantings were under water most of the year. The (Removed members name)had hired me to provide a solution to their dying landscape. They were going to install the Landscape themselves. This is where my priority of work to be done and recommendations conflicted with the expectations of the customer. In a case like this, major site work was going to be required to deal with the soil saturation by installing extensive drainage system. In addition the import of free draining soil mixtures. The scope of this work should be decided upon prior to the completion of a Final Planting Plan. I had outlined to (Removed members name)the area of excavation, drainage and soil import. Honestly, I thought it would take him a few months for him to compete this task. A task that would require equipment operators, retaining rock and much soil imported to the site. As the Project Manager (35 years’ experience), I like to defer final plant selection until site development is completed. This will normally save the customer design fees and result in a much better plant selection based on the terrain. Depending on what actually would be accomplished, affected choice of plants. Wetlands versus raised planting beds. The reason for this is most plants we use in the Northwest Landscapes don’t like to live in water continuously. I didn’t want them to perpetuate a problem with a solution that wouldn’t work. At this point I had over $ 1,000 invested in the design and details. The customer asked for $ 350 refund of their $ 700 deposit. I stopped working on the project at that time and didn’t provide any more plans to the customer. Almost all my work is Design or Design/Build with Do-it-yourself Plans representing only 1% of our business. I have since changed the procedures and documentation for Do-it-yourselfers to avoid such a problem again. We have an “A” Rating with the Better Business Bureau (THE BBB). This agency offers a free customer review and arbitration for any disputes. We don’t solicit customers to post reviews on Angie’s List as this an additional cost to our customers. We respect their privacy and don’t give out our customer email database as Angie’s List has asked to do."
