I wish all remodeling companies were as professional and dependable as Dave and Cascade Stair Company. They show up when they tell you they will show up, they bill what they originally said, they do AMAZING work. We have had a number of contractors come through while we remodel our home and Dave stands out above them all. The craftsmanship is just outstanding, everything is exactly right. We really appreciated Dave’s attention to the design and detail. He came with great ideas and tons of pictures and examples. The end result is just amazing.

Dave and his wife are above and beyond the quality of service one would hope for in contracting business today. Honesty, true craftsmanship, quality personal customer service presented from Cascade Stairs is exemplary. We have purchased an older home that needed upgrades. We have hired several contractors that were a disaster. Dave not only was able to salvage our existing stairs that were a previous owner DIY and previous contractor disaster, but he helped make our house a home. Cleanliness, courteous, professional, creative, highly skilled craftsman are a rare find. Dave is all of those traits and truly stands behind his work. We couldn't be more pleased.
Description of Work: Dave helped me design a new stair railing, newel posts, balusters and a stair rebuild that a previous contractor tore out and never to return.

What a transformation! Dave is very quality oriented in his work and did good work with an attention to details. His precision is very important and contributed to a very nice finished product. He also pointed out issues with the previous installation of the rails which were not anchored correctly to the wall. The new rails are very solid. He provided me with options and suggestions, which were great as I had not any previous experience with stair rail installations. He is very busy so be prepared to get on the waiting list. Also, note that he does not perform the staining or trim paint work on the stairs but does recommend others who can do that work.
Description of Work: Replace wooden stair balusters and replace them with iron balusters. Removed white handrails and replaced them with unstained oak.

Cascade Stair Company came to my house on 9/5/15 to look at my staircase, for the purpose of providing an estimate for restoration. My staircase had been carpeted for years, and when I pulled the carpet off, I found only plywood stairs underneath. The man who came to my house was extremely nice, spent a fair amount of time here, and appeared to be very professional. He took measurements, spoke with me about different types of wood choices, and explained the restoration process to me. He told me he could most likely get the estimate to me on Monday, because it was Labor Day and he planned to work on Labor Day. Monday came and went, as did a couple more weeks, and I still did not have an estimate. I called him on his cell phone to check on the status of the estimate, but I didn't reach him and had to leave a message. He never returned my call. Several days later I called the office number and got the same results - had to leave a message, and no one returned my call. I'll never understand why some businesses operate this way, rather than informing potential customers that they cannot do the job, or don't want to do the job, or are running behind. The company's visit to my home went really well, but it was apparently wasted time since I never got either an estimate or even a phone call after, as of today, 3-1/2 weeks.

It took us a long time to decide. He gave us estimate almost 9 months before that. They were professional, on time and willing to work with us. I was pregnant at that time and have a three year old. He always makes sure we can get up and down the stairs. We got three or four bids and he was the best of all of them and willing to work with us. It seemed like all the other companies I called were big time. It was pretty smart because initially, we were just trying to fix the banisters we had. We couldn’t find the replacement of banisters that matched. It’s kind of one thing that led to the next. He was very nice about it and he was willing to try to help us fix things. The price was comparable. He always showed up on time. When he was going to work and he had to be late, he’d give me a call. He was very responsible like a couple of little things came loose and I called him. The very next day, they got out to fix it.
Description of Work: We have a new banisters staircase and we used Dave Nelson of Cascade Stair Company.

Dave was professional and courteous. On his initial visit, he showed me his portfolio, so that I could get an idea of the various possibilities for our home. I was somewhat undecided about what style I wanted, so he offered suggestions, but did not push me in one direction or another. He began and finished the job within the time frame he scheduled. Dave was very careful about cleaning up before he left each day, which was helpful, as we were living in the home during construction. Meticulous about details, Dave's craftsmanship is clearly evident in the finished project. Our entry stairway not only looks great, but is solidly built, and meets code in all aspects. Our entry now looks upscale and elegant!
Description of Work: Removed half walls in entry stairway, and installed new newel posts, handrails, iron balusters, and trim pieces. The construction took about 4 days, with a return visit to install the irons after the newel posts and trim were painted, and the handrails were stained.

Dave is one of the best contractors I have ever worked with. He beat out competitors, not only for price, but for his fantastic professionalism. I was concerned about how small our job was: about 15 feet of space total. This railing replaced an old one which was below the waistline in height (this space is a finished attic). Dave's response when he saw the space after I voiced my concern, "we do jobs of all sizes" and then asked me if I had time to sit down and look at some samples so he could get a better idea of what we were wanting. He made even our small job feel like valuable business to him. He was prompt at the consultation and for the two installation days. He was cognizant of our budget and space constraints in the design. We are beyond happy with the finished product, as well. The railing/posts are solid and there isn't a single flaw in the wood. He even moved a post over from where the original was to make a straight line and then perfectly filled the hole where the post once met the floor - once we stain it, you wouldn't even know. Dave's wife, Lisa, came to help with the install of the iron rods (even for our small job he came in two trips so that we could more easily stain the wood without the rods in the way). Lisa was also very personable and they were very efficient with time. We highly recommend Cascade Stair and hope to use them for future projects.

I can't say enough good things about Dave. He responded quickly to every phone call or email. He called me a few days before showing up to discuss the balusters that I wanted. He showed up the day he told me he would and finished the day he told me he would. Recently we have spent a lot of money updating our house. Updating the stairs is my favorite thing we have done. It opened up my entry and upgraded the look of the interior. Dave truly cares about his work and it shows in the details. Dave also suggested the drywall person and helped schedule him, as well as suggesting the stain and finish. I would and will recommend him to anyone wanting to change their stairs.

After initial consult in June I had to repeatedly follow-up to sign a contract, make 1/2 down payment to schedule the job for late August. This marked the only difficulty I had in working with Dave and I attributed it to a busy work season. Dave is very knowledgeable and pleasant to work with. He provided us with some good ideas and pointed out some features in a handrail system and staircase that complimented unique features to our home. Dave's expertise is in building staircases and handrail systems and his attention to detail and craftsmanship shows in his work. He leaves finishing and painting to either the customer or a highly recommended finisher. Painting and finishing a finely crafted staircase and handrail system is not for the feint of heart. We went with the professional finisher Dave recommended and are extremely happy with the overall product. Dave is a great listener and flexible in his thinking. He also backs his work and revisited our home twice on a Saturday to correct for a problem created by another company that put down new carpeting on the stairs. He did not need to do this and did so at no charge. His concern was with the overall product and for that I highly recommend Cascade Stair Company.
Description of Work: Installed 28 feet of post-to-post handrail with iron balusters, oak false treads with risers, and skirtboards. Also installed identical handrail dividing kitchen from family room and new oak step.

Dave is extreamly perfectional and super knowledgeble about his craft. He made me feel very confident in the work i saw him doing. He was ontime and always would return phone call or emails in a timely manner.
Description of Work: Dave came to our home and talked with us about our stair vision and was very confident he could do the job. He always showed up on time and was very perfectional My husband and I demoed the stair rails and half walls before Dave stared the job, but Dave can do this as well if needed. After everything was clean Dave came in and put in all new bulsters and hand rails. He was very miticulous about his work as well as clean. He is a definet craftsman whom takes pride in his work. When he was finished we had the bulsters and rails painted and stained. Then Dave came back and put in the iron spindels. My vision was compleat and even better than I imagined!!!

This guy rocks! . Dave handles himself with the utmost professionalism and is an excellent project planner and is definitely an expert in what he is doing.. He came prepared to provide me with a bid In November 2013 (had pictures of projects he had completed, measured and counted the stairs, had suggestions for railings and balusters and provided me with an approximate cost), and assured me he would complete the project according to current building codes. He said he was booked until February 2014, arrived to do the job when he said he would, and was completed in a timely manner. He arrived on time and worked hard all day. On the one morning he was going to be late, he called me to let me know. He left the garage (his work space) cleaner than when he started. I would not hesitate to recommend Cascade Stair Company to anyone who needs his/her stairs replaced or remodeled.

Dave is a very careful and skilled worker. He discussed options throughout the project, which allowed us to improve our original plan. The results are FANTASTIC. We knew from the minute we saw his website pictures that he would do an excellent job, and he did not disappoint. The wood and other materials are of high quality. The work was completed in a timely manner and remained at the price we had agreed upon. My husband and I highly recommend that you use Cascade Stair Company. The new stairway and balcony have opened up the look of our home and increased its value.
Description of Work: Dave came out to assess the scope of the project and brought pictures and materials to help us determine which balusters, wall caps, and newel posts we would like used. He took out two half walls. He replaced three wall caps with beautiful wood. He installed six sections of top rails plus a side-wall rail, 5 floor caps, 5 1/2 newel posts, and 68 balusters.

We were referred to Cascade Stair Company by our wood floor installer and the owner (Dave) was a treat to work with. He was very responsive to our request for estimate and responded quickly when we had questions. This project was more of a "custom" job since the balusters needed to fit the arts-and-crafts design of our home and we exchanged several ideas to Dave. Once on site, Dave demonstrated his craftsmanship as he worked with us to tweak the design to meet our objectives. The results were wonderful and really help make this stairway feel like a custom piece of furniture! During the project, Dave was very prompt and he was always on site the days he committed to. The project was completed on time and Dave made sure everything was clean after each day. We were very pleased with the results as well as the experience of working with Cascade Stair Company!
Description of Work: For an interior basement stairway in a 1920s home: fabricate and install skirtboards, knee wall caps & trim, floor-to-ceiling newel post, ceiling cap, knee wall-to-ceiling balusters, and handrail. Skirtboards, knee wall caps and trim were paint-grade material; the newel post, ceiling cap, knee wall-to-ceiling balusters, and handrail were stain-grade red oak.

I remodeled my stairs. If you are considering doing so, I'd recommend you read every book you can find on stair remodeling and spend as much time as you can scouring the internet for info. Then, make sure you realize that in every book I read (Tauntons, etc) that they omit some important information, and that every situation can present you with unique and challenging issues you will need to overcome. Dave helped me finish my stair project, and I am extremely pleased with the end result. Dave is a true craftsman and professional. Thank you Dave! Excellent work.
Description of Work: Cascade Stair Company, and Dave Nelson, are top notch. Dave helped me complete a stair remodel, and ensured the newels and hand rails were to code, baluster spacing were correct (not only to code but aesthetically perfect as well). If I could go back in time, I would have saved money, saved time, and saved a whole bunch of stress by hiring a professional stair craftsman from the beginning.

I can't believe we're only the second? review for Cascade Stairs. We were afraid of doing the wrong thing, so we delayed the staircase project for 2-3 years until we found Dave. We had remodeled our kitchen, living room, TV/media room, tore out load bearing walls, moved other walls, moved our laundry room upstairs, re-plummed and re-wired, tore out and remodeled 3 bathrooms, but we just couldn't figure out what to do with the staircase. Cascade Stairs brought samples, shared ideas, identified websites to view product options and ideas, helped us feel confident about our choices without any sales pressure, an honest desire to provide all information that may be helpful. We later found ourselves in a tight time frame, which Cascade Stairs dealt with. We appreciate his professionalism and dedication to his client while maintaining high integrity to his staircase craft, a pleasure to do business with him.
Description of Work: It's our pleasure to recommend Cascade Stairs. Dave is a master journeyman carpenter. His staircase design suggestions and experience shows through in the finished product, we couldn't be more pleased. Dave was punctual, professional, friendly, easy to work with, got everything done in our very tight time frame. He bent over backwards, did handstands and cartwheels to meet our deadline. Wish we had another staircase for Dave, it was a joy to watch a master at work. Also, he was very generous sharing his carpentry knowledge, which my husband soaked up. Thank you Dave, and his wonderful wife too.

I truly can't believe I am the first to write about Cascade Stair! We are a Sammamish family of 4 that had our stairs completely redone by Cascade Stair. A+++ experience in working with them and in the quality of the work! First thing you see when you walk in our home is our stairs & we had ripped them out years before and never replaced so there was a huge hanging landing w caution tape. You could not use the stairs at all-- for years, yes years! We were so concerned about doing them wrong that we did nothing . We had several bids from finish carpenters and even paid to have one complete them. But a month after he started, the stairs were inconsistent sizes-something he said could not be avoided. We stopped the project and just kept looking for a firm that does only stairs. This is an art form and you don't want just any finish carpenter tackling your stairs. We luckily found Cascade and they removed the inferior stairs and started from scratch. No pressure, lots of information & ideas, excellent price, installed on time and at quoted price. No hidden surprises and we love the result! They took our old white stair system that looked like a baby crib and transformed them into timeless iron post stairs. And they knew other craftsman in millwork and painting trades that were just as awesome and fairly priced! Terrific experience! Highly recommended! Suggest you have some magazine photos of what you like/don't like and determine if you want all carpet or carpet w end caps or all wood. Check out model homes in your area too for ideas.
Description of Work: Cascade Stair removed all our old posts & rails and nearly all the steps that had been improperly framed by another millwork firm. Then they assisted us with the selection of new posts-actually brought us samples to see nuances of color and to ensure right size. Then they completed the work in 2 phases-each time showing up and completing as scheduled with no mess, no drama, no hidden fees. These stairs have been in place no 3 years and there is no shifting or loosening anywhere.
