We had a great experience working with NRC Homes on a significant remodel as we prepared to move into our new home. They were highly organized, very communicative, and a pleasure to work with. Despite a tight timeline and several changes along the way (Due to changes from us), they delivered everything on time and were incredibly patient and flexible. We’re so grateful for their professionalism and would absolutely recommend them!

The project went amazingly well. NRC was both on time and on budget. They worked closely with us to optimize our design and layout. I would work again with them in a heartbeat. It was a wonderful experience

Hiring this contractor turned out to be one of the worst and costliest decisions I have ever made. The contract was for over $200,000 to lift the house and install a basement apartment. More than three months after the project was to be completed, I hired a lawyer to determine how to proceed given the poor quality work I was seeing and not knowing when the job would be done. Their standard contact language indicates payment to client of $300 a day for liquidated damages for each day beyond the contract end date. I had a ton of documentation about their delays and business practices and felt extremely confident going to court but late in the game I learned that they could just claim bankruptcy and I would never see a penny of what they owed; this on top of all of my attorney fees. They do go by N & R, NRC Homes and Megapolis so gave me pause about their claim of not having any assets. In the end, I settled to avoid this possibility of eating all costs. Below is just a short list of the experience I had with this contractor. I do think their concrete and framing crew leads and crews are great but in the end, they are told what to do by Anatoliy and Alexander. I’m happy to show anyone all the documentation I have of this horrid and costly experience. • Project end date was end of August and project was still not complete in December and quality of work was taking a nose dive. • Tried to claim a change order of more than $3,000 for reestablishing status quo electricity to my house and shop. They said they needed to rewire and move the electrical panel outside or I would trip the breakers in my house. This didn’t seem to be a problem for the electrician I hired when I refused to pay for reestablishing status quo; panel is inside per plan and no major rewiring was needed. • Installed R-11 insulation when plan called for R-19. Did not communicate or submit change order prior to installing. I just caught it and called them on it. • Installed spigot several inches proud of wall and it leaks making it prone to bursting and flooding the apartment. • Had to take numerous measures in December to keep pipes from freezing in backyard wood shop b/c they did not install a shut off valve. • Their electrician told me what step lights to buy then installed electrical boxes that were too small to accommodate any step light. I had to build wooden boxes to house the lights. Spent many hours with my electrician and my time trying to remedy the situation. Still trying to fix so they are waterproof. • Billings often included charges for work that was not done which was corrected after I called them on it. I was even told one time that it was a “Quick Books’ glitch but somehow it always benefitted them. • They tried to install the wood flooring in the basement when humidity levels were substantially higher than the manufacturer’s instructions. I even sent them the conditions of installation several days earlier b/c I suspected they would do this. Subs and a new manager, who I never was introduced to, showed up to install the floor in the pouring rain. I turned them away saying it would void my warranty. They tried to bully me into doing it that day saying they would be back if there were any future problems and that if I didn’t install it that day, it may delay my project for weeks. In the end, they brought over a dehumidifier and installed it two days later. • Did not install deck step to grade per plan and just pushed up the dirt and held it back with leftover wood flooring boards. I had to pay for materials and labor to accommodate the grade change by building a small retaining wall. • Brand new Kohler cast iron tub has permanent rust stains from leaving nails in standing water. It’s also not close to being level. • Plan called for casting bolts into concrete for outside railing. Was not done. I had to pay for more complicated installation and also have ugly concrete patch where I had to remove an extended concrete lip which was a tripping hazard.
Response from NRC Homes
"Unfortunately, this was a job where we tried to accommodate Ms. [Member Name Removed] and her wishes to our own detriment, and took direction from Ms. [Member Name Removed] that caused delays (including her direction to proceed without a survey and her direction to cease installing flooring when our measurements of the humidity levels showed that they were within the manufacturer's accepted range). Ms. [Member Name Removed] hired her own electrician, purchased her own materials (including cabinetry), and made other general contracting decisions that impacted the job and our own ability to execute. The end result was that Ms. [Member Name Removed] served as the de facto general contractor. We had to work around Ms. [Member Name Removed]'s subcontractors and to try to schedule our own work around them and their delays. We also had trouble communicating with Ms. [Member Name Removed]: she frequently did not answer our phone calls and emails when we reached out to her with questions. We dispute Ms. [Member Name Removed]'s characterization of our financial disagreements; she owed us money and forced us to put a lien on her property in order to get paid. We are very proud of the quality of our work. We own up to our mistakes and correct them. We have nothing but respect for Ms. [Member Name Removed] and are sorry for the way that this job turned out."

We have contracted with N&R to help us with concrete work and framing.  N&R was recommended to us by my architect, and we had also other recommendations of subcontractors that we had gotten estimates from. We went with N&R, although they were not the cheapest, as we like Alex's no nonsense and efficient approach.  Anatoily was also very good to work with.  It also helps that we are working with only one company for both concrete and framing work.  As of now, we have continued working with them on another project and would highly recommend them.

Very impressed with the work. the speed with which it was done and the professionalism of the team.  Alexander and Anatoliy took the time at the front end of the process to understand my requirements and delivered on them, on budget and schedule.  Can't ask for more than that.

N&R Construction have done a great job on both of our projects.  We have referred them to other clients who have also been very pleased.  They are inexpensive, honest, hard-working, fast and reliable.  They gave us fixed bids on both projects.  Bids on garage were 25% less than competivitve bids.  We believe that we saved a similar amount on the 3rd floor addition.  They can charge less because they work fast and have low overhead.  Both projects were completed faster then we expected and exactly on budget.  Communication was good and frequent.  My wife felt safe having them around the house during the day while she was at home.  Very nice workers.

We feel so lucky to have found these guys.

Overall the process went very well.  The contract negotiation was relatively straight forward and the honesty and values of the guys shone through in how they dealt with invoicing, contract review, and how they operated.  They gave us great confidence.
When the work started they moved very quickly and were always on-site.  I NEVER had to worry about them not working enough or not being there.  That alone is a reason to hire them.
The quality of N&R's work was outstanding.  I was honestly skeptical as they hadn't done much work in this particular style of house before  but all their references checked out and their quality in the work they  had done was excellent.  The finished product is really wonderful and  I've since gone on to recommend them for other clients of mine.  They've continued to do great work. Alexander and Anatoliy are very honest,  easy to get along with, and quick to offer solutions to any problems  that come up.  The minor hiccups and surprises typical of ANY project  were handled professionally and quickly. Almost as importantly I can say that at the end of the project I still like these two guys a lot and  look forward to working with them on many future projects.  I'd be happy to offer a more in depth recommendation if needed and can be contacted through my firm's website: http://www.boardandvellum.com

Hired NR Construction for my Custom Home Build.  They were able to provide immediate estimate and timeline.  They were competitively priced and highly recommended.  They build us a 10,000ft2 custom dream home.  They were recommended by Viceroy Homes, a Custom home panelized company that is popular in the Northwest.  Viceroy homes have preferred builders who know how to put up their models.  NR construction was able to build our home on time and on budget.  The site was always clean and organized.  They use quality Subcontractors. Alexander and Anatoliy were very professional in their dealings with us.  They have been responsive on troubleshooting and warranty issues.

They were a great and fabulous company.  They came in midway and did a great job on what a previous contractor had screwed up.  They finished it and fixed the problems that had gotten done wrong.  We have worked with a ton of contractors, and they have been one of the best we have ever used.

We originally called N & R Construction to give us an estimate for a basement remodel. Alexander gave us a thorough and competitively priced estimate. We decided to have our hardwood floors refinished before taking on the basement project and immediately thought of N & R. Alexander explained the various options, including the pros and cons of the various products available. They did a great job. The work was done quickly, the crew was professional, and the floors look amazing.

N&R always came up with affordable options  and completed work in a timely, professional manner.  N&R was very up-front about any scope changes to contracted work prior to initiating any additional work above and beyond the contract.  We have remodeled 5 houses over the last 20 years and have worked with multiple contractors.  Working with N&R has been one of our best experiences.  I would highly recommend them.

They provided a very detailed bid which gave me confidence that they understood the full scope of the project. After watching the project come to a finish, it was obvious that they had really done their homework on what was needed and that they kept very close track of the expenses so there were no cost overruns. Communications with N&R was always good. They answered my questions or concerns promptly and even offered suggestions on how to keep expenses down. The work quality is outstanding and I am extremely pleased with the results.

The experience was excellent. They know exactly what needs to get done and how to schedule everything so there's no time waiting around. It started by getting a bid, which was emailed to me promptly. Followed up with a phone call to review any questions. After taking some time to decide, I called them back and we scheduled a date to start.  They were there on day 1 and DID NOT MISS A SINGLE DAY for the duration of the project. (this is incredible for anyone who has ever done remodeling before) During the basement remodel, they made a recommendation to my plans to move the bedroom door. Doing this increased closet space and just made overall sense to the flow of the entire floorplan. I am definitely happy still about that! They wrapped up the jobs, cleaned up and that was it - no hassles, no surprises. The bill was EXACTLY what they quoted.  When my next project comes up, it is very comforting to know I have a company I can count on.

We hired N&R on a recommendation from a friend and were very pleased with them from beginning to end. Anatoliy, who runs the company, is very knowledgeable, notably since in addition to extensive construction experience he has training as an engineer and therefore understands house issues rather better than most. The work involved constructing a 6-person sauna from cedar (interior) and pine (exterior). This required them to modify what was there already (tearing out old shelves etc) and constructing the sauna room (frame, panels, insulation, seating benches etc), fitting the sauna heater (with associated electrical work), and tiling the floor and lower portion of the room. The result was beautiful and the exterior was constructed in keeping with the existing paneling elsewhere in the basement. Anatoliy managed his small crew very well, and brought in an electrician who fixed a couple of general wiring problems (for very little extra money) while he was at it. We use the sauna all the time. Anatoliy was a pleasure to deal with: very professional, likable and honest. We're going to hire him to do some more work in the near future.

This was only our second experience with remodelers, the first being pretty painful. So we were relieved and overjoyed at every step with how well this project went. From the get-go, they listened to us, asked us lots of questions about what we wanted and didn't want, listened to our budget concerns and addressed them. They constantly came up with great ideas as to how to get exactly what we wanted within our budget. They were also flexible with the payment schedule when we had a cash-flow problem. They completed work in a timely manner, worked overtime whenever necessary and were always very mindful of respecting our space, as we had to live here during construction. They rented a Honey Bucket without even asking and always made an effort to keep the mud-tracking and mess in the common areas to a minimum. They gave us ample warning for power and water interruptions. They were always extremely polite. They went above and beyond to make sure we were completely happy at every moment. Even their subcontractors abided by the same outstanding customer service. We never had to micromanage or question that they were doing their job. They always asked us our opinion on every single material and finish so that they could ensure our happiness with the end result. The completed dormer fits so well with our house that you would never know anything was added on. It feels like the house was always meant to be this way. We will absolutely hire them again if we have any other projects.
