it started with the bathroom... I had them bid for a nice bathroom with granite and tile... tub etc... we picked tile... took them tile and showed them how we wanted it... showed up.. tile was laid.. and not how we asked for it.. made them take it out....
They talked us into considering reusing the existing tub... said it will clean up and look new... i told them to clean it up and let me inspect it.. if i liked it they could use it.. but do not install it without my approval... I show up next week.. its been installed without even being cleaned up..... they tell me oh we will get it resurfaced and look good as new.... ( they tried to bill me more for resurfacing tub than a new one)....
.. Next they call me..... tell me all the fascia is in good shape and doesn't need replaced... just painted.. so I allow them to scrape and paint it all instead of replace......... i show up and its all nice and painted accept on the car port.... and the workers say they were told only the house not the carport. ( attached to house)... Call John.... and he says oh the car port was not in the scope of work... we bid to do 150feet only... and my contract said REMOVE AND REPLACE ALL EXISTING GUTTERS and replace up to 150 feet of Fascia.... we finally agree on cleaning and painting the existing... ..
Finally everything seems to be in order after multiple complaints and screw ups...... we went ahead and paid them... went to use the new bathroom for the first time... water was not on to the toilet... i reach down to turn it on.. see that they didn't replace the angle stop.. they shut water off to toilet because angel stop was leaking buckets...... i called them up..... and hear oh the angle stops were not in the scope of work for a brand new bathroom.. 9k for a bathroom and leave rusted and leaking angle stops.....they finally agreed to replace it..
In the end the job was done to our satisfaction but i would have to say i would prob not use them again because of the issues I consider myself partial to blame for not covering every nut bolt and screw in the scope of work...... and them for looking for every excuse to do half a$$ work....and avoid doing the job right... The bathroom is beautiful hopefully nothing else is wrong that i have not figured out though because i am tired of hearing it was not in the scope of work..
"I want to thank [member name removed] for the opportunity to be of service to him. We always strive to make our customers happy. As with any remodels there are always the unexpected and issues to solve and negotiate. All in all I am happy with what we accomplished for him. I am sorry he feels unsatisfied. Regardless I think the Angie's list community deserve to know the whole story. First we were contracted to replace the tub and toilet. But [member name removed] decided to use the old tub after our guys painstakingly removed the 200lb tub and carried it down stairs. So in all fairness he was not talked into using the old tub which we did resurface for him. Then we have to clean the old toilet for reinstall but we still had to give him credit for the toilet. Any contractor would prefer to install a brand new toilet as we agreed to. Second [member name removed] is the do it yourself type. He hired us only because the bank required licensed contractors for him to get the loan. But he took on most of the work. After the scope of work is scaled back in order to save money in the bidding process he wanted to pile up as much as he could for us afer we started working. Nevertheless we tried to be considerate and tried hard to work with him making concession after concession to make him happy. We put in the heater for him for free, gave him credit for the toilet which was not scoped out in the contract; we paid more for the custom granite counter top and the square sink he picked exceeding the budget we agreed to. We built a beautiful bathroom and I think he will agree. Our main issue here is lack of details in the contract which may have led to diverging expectations. If given another chance I am sure we will do things differently and will make him happy."
