they will eat EVERYTHING, even the trees so make sure you want it all gone. there was a little left over clearing to be done of dead grass they didn't seem to like and the stalks from the blackberries, but not much at all. 1/2 hour of work compared to the days it would have taken.
We had a herd of goats and a few sheep in from The Goat Lady to clear brush from about a half acre on our property. They cleared many years of Blackberry and ivy growth. They ate the leaves off the brush and the smaller shoots. They also ate ivy that was growing on the trees and ivy on the hills. Basically any plant was fair game. They did seem less enthused by the sword ferns which was fine by me. They also thought the bark on the saplings and some small trees was tasty. If this had been a back yard the trees could have been protected but since we were clearing we did not bother.
The goats and sheep stayed about a week and Josh checked on them daily. He was very pleasant to deal with and patiently answered my questions even though we only had a small job. The herd was very quiet just an occasional maa. One of the sheep had a baby while they were here and Josh let me hold it. It was stinking adorable!
Once the goats and sheep are done the stalks remain to be cleared but now we can tell what is in the area which is a lot of downed trees and holes. It was tough terrain and I had not actually been able to walk through it before. It is so much easier to work on now that we can see what is actually in there.
