Toren (owner) did an initial inspection of my truck. He spent almost an hour just talking to me 1:1. Educating me about the engine and its good and bad points. Lots of information about proper maintenance, etc. He also listened to me about how I plan to use the truck and applied that to suggested fixes and work applicable for my use. He also identified some important parts (like the FICM) that had been previously replaced, so didn't need to focus on them at this time.
After confirming what I wanted done, I scheduled an appointment and dropped off the truck on the next Friday and picked it up the next day. Toren went out of his way to track down a special part and worked past closing so I could get it on the weekend to have for work on Monday. When picking it up, he spent another 30 minutes or so (after closing hours) explaining aftercare maintenance, what to expect the next couple of days while the transmission adapted (since batteries were disconnected for the work, transmission memory resets itself), etc. He even pointed out (I didn't notice myself) a small blemish his topside creeper made to the powerstroke badge on the fan shroud and said he was ordering a new badge and could mail it to me or I could swing by anytime.
It's clear talking to Toren that he is an extreme wealth of knowledge and very passionate about his work and doing things the right way. Not once did he ever try to sell me on anything that wasn't needed/critical. He explained areas of concerns and explained all options and provided recommendations.
Exactly what I'm looking for as my only mechanic. I'm super particular about my vehicles and to me a good mechanic is like a family doctor that learns about my vehicles and our use of them.
Also, Ranaway specializes in Diesel, but also works on gas trucks and cars as well.
