The original bid and estimate were performed by a former employee of Mike's Roofing, Inc. whose name coincidentally was also Mike. He passed himself off as the owner, and my mother and I were impressed by his apparent care and attention to detail, as well as his willingness to make time in his busy schedule to affect a repair as soon as possible (the roof had been leaking quite heavily in the late spring). When the date of the repair came and went without anyone showing to do the work, we began to try to track down Mike. We made contact with the REAL owner, who had no knowledge of our bid, estimate, and subsequent agreement. He came to look over the paperwork we had (fortunately we didn't pay a deposit), and stated that the bid was far lower than he would have offered (even though it wasn't the lowest we received), but he would honor the contract in the interest of maintaining his business' reputation. We rescheduled, and his crew arrived and worked for two days, nearly completing the project. A third day was required to finish a few hours of work, and we were told they would be there to finish the next day. After two days passed, they finally arrived and finished the cleanup and final details. Fast forward to April of 2013. My mother has passed away, and we are renovating her home. The flashing on the chimney looks terrible, and some of the tabs on the roof are looking questionable. We found the papers from the work that was completed eleven years ago, plus some printed email documents my mother had saved with them, where she had addressed the issues with tardiness, as well as commending one of Mike's employees for his efforts in taking special care in the clean-up of her yard. We contact Mike's roofing, and are given the run-around about his preference for email. Patiently, we wait to hear from Mike Coaker. Finally, he contacts us, and wants proof that his company did the work. We supply relevant information to this effect. He demands to see an image showing the issue. We provide an image. He states that the image doesn't show work that his company performs (I would hope not, as it looks quite horrific), and therefor doesn't fall under the 20 year guarantee of workmanship. Lastly, he suggests that he is more than willing to send someone out to examine the roof, but if the issues are deemed to not be covered under warrantee, he will charge us $375 for a "service call". The terse nature of his email, unwillingness to take responsibility for his company's work, and the complete lack of concern for a former customer, as well as his snide responses to our emails have me considering legal action. I will be reporting to the BBB, as well as to the Attorneys General office of the State of Washington, regarding the shady, illicit, dishonorable, and abhorrent business practices of Mike's Roofing, Inc.
