A completely competent and professional experience. Jeff covered the whole unit, provided very helpful and detailed explanations of anything I asked about, and then also took the time to explain the report. Exactly the inspection you'd hope for when you're purchasing a home.

My wife and I are first time home buyers and needed to conduct a home/pest inspection. The Move Smart team was accommodating and professional and quickly got us scheduled for a morning inspection 3 days after our initial outreach. Jeff conducted the inspection and made a daunting task really straight forward. He took about two hours for the inspection of our home (around 1,100 square feet) and afterwards provided a concise report summary listed in order of urgency: major concerns, deficient items, potential safety hazards, and general maintenance information. This structure of reporting made it very easy to understand the urgency of items to be addressed and state of the home. He did a great job pointing out and showing us the major concerns in the home and the reporting includes photos of all items that he highlighted in the report which makes it really easy for us to go to a general contractor or electrician to get cost estimates for repairs. Jeff was conversational and happy to answer questions during the inspection. In addition, they partner with Sewer Inspector and easily coordinated both the sewer and home inspection at the same time on our behalf. Thank you as well to Chrissi for answering our initial questions multiple times, Bill for making sure that the promotion was applied to our inspection no questions asked, and to Kyle of Sewer Inspector for the quick inspection and summary. Total cost of service was around ~700 for home, pest, and sewer inspection (provided by Sewer Inspector) Worth every penny.

We are first time buyers and Jeff was great and patient at walking through our new home. He showed up early and was finishing outside inspection when we arrived. He was very prepared, explained what he was doing succinctly, and finished on-time. The report arrived by email within 20 minutes of finishing the inspection. He answered our questions and is prepared to answer future questions if we have them. I've never done an inspection before so his patience was very much appreciated!

My realtor recommended Move Smart Home Inspections when we were buying our house last April(2019). The inspector showed up early and was mostly done inspecting the outside of the house before we even arrived. He was extremely knowledgeable and explained how our house worked and what issues he was finding. We followed him around while he inspected and we really appreciated the time he took to explain things to us as this was our first house. A+ and I have recommended them to several friends and family so far and they have been happy with them as well.

- [ ] Our inspector, Dan, was great with answering all of our questions and explaining everything to us. We are first time homebuyers and pretty nervous about making the right decisions regarding our home purchase. Dan was very patient with us and even explained a lot regarding the questions we had that he legally was not allowed to answer for us. We left the experience feeling very good about our decisions and much more knowledgeable about the process!

We had a pre-inspection done for a home we recently purchased. After we moved in, we found out that the plumbing and electrical hookups for the washer and dryer are not present and we had to pay $1400 out of pocket. This is something that should have been caught on the inspection. Especially since we were there when the inspector looked at it and all he said is that the dryer needs to be vented. He didn't say a thing about the lack of hookups, and it's not in the inspection report either. Our real estate agent reached out and Dan Urquhart completely denies any responsibility, meanwhile, we're stuck with a $1400 bill for something he should have caught on the inspection. Additionally, the fee for this inspection is far beyond what others in this area charge, and while the inspector was there for four hours, there were several other unrelated issues he didn't catch. So it's really not worth it to pay more money for the inspector to be there for such a long time but do a poor inspection.

Update: Move Smart Home Inspections has reached out to me, and we have reached a compromise. Both parties consider this matter closed after reaching mutual agreement.

Dan was our inspector, he was great! Super friendly, even talked to the kids a bit and so helpful with all of his information and examples of what we could do to fix certain things. (Everything we need to do is fairly small potatoes in the grand scheme of things, but being first time home buyers we are new to it all.) He answered all of our questions and his report was easy to read and understand, and I also really appreciated the pictures. So glad we chose your company!

The foundation slab had cracked in half.  One of the foundation walls had broken in two.  The nails in the south cripple wall
that hold the front of the house up had all pulled out.  The studs were all slanted.  The corner of the house had settled about six inches.  It was a small miracle the house was still standing.
This was the condition of my house when I purchased it six years ago.  The inspector found no problems with the foundation (or anything else).  In the inspector's defense, the seller had attempted to disguise the problem by hanging sheet rock over the walls in the basement, patching and painting the foundation walls and laying carpet over the foundation slab.  Still, the crack (which was about an inch wide and ran all the way through in the foundation wall) was visible, the floor was horribly uneven, and two of the cripple walls were leaning over at  a 10 degree angle.  The basement looked like an Escher painting.  Any qualified inspector should have easily detected the problem.
I could have easily sued the inspector and the seller but was naive and uninformed at the time and did not understand my legal rights.  This inspector should be barred from inspecting houses.
