Stilly River Mechanical

Upon recommendations on a Facebook group, I hired Stilly River to service my pool heat pump. Johnny came out to pressure test my new pool heat pump and then fill up with R410A. He was on time, super friendly and knowledgeable, and efficient at getting the work done. Will definitely hire again for other HVAC needs in the future.

This company was the listed as the original installer of our homes HVAC system. Unfortunately, the B-Venting for the Furnace and Hot Water heater were apparently not installed to code. A fact also missed for some reason by the original city inspector but raised by a new one! The issue was back draughting of CO2 down the hot water tank vent pipe when the furnace turned on due to the B-Vent design. Our B-Vent design combined the Hot Water Heater and Furnace into one pipe (nothing wrong there) but vented it sideways out of the house (everything wrong here). Both Gas appliances were specifically designed and required to be vertically vented above the roof line. The result was back draughting of fumes into our garage. It turns out this had been going on for a while. Highly dangerous! So dangerous the city was going to issue a non-occupancy order if we didnt address the situation ASAP. Admittedly, the original city inspector should not have sign off on what was a clear code violation on the B-Venting installation either. Attempts to reach out to this company failed. We had to replace the entire system (Furnace, Hot Water Tank and Venting) at our cost for safetys sake. An expense we could have well done without on effectively a new home.

In a major repair such as replacing the condenser on your air conditioner one is really at the mercy of the repairer. The owner of Stilly River did a thorough job of testing all possible failure points prior to having to replace the condenser. Fortunately the condenser was under warranty, and he managed the process very well. After consulting with him on his repair procedures, I double-checked with another provider which showed me he was on the correct track. The repair process went as smoothly as possible. He returned once the check on the operation, and also came back when I had a question on the systems filters.
