Horrendous!! It was so bad. I am still in shock. The company's name should be called "Step Above Crap Construction". The first part of the job was to: (1) Remove the existing 2 layers of roofing (2) Cut in and install 16" overhangs (3) Install 1/2 cdx plywood (4) Install waterblock 30 The cost of this part of the project was $1,100. I emphasized the importance with the owner of the company, Mike Lowell, the importance of the installation of the 16" overhang had to be structurally sound. He said, "No problem". He said he knew exactly what to do. I emphasized verbally with Mike Lowell that he was going to be physically at the site, doing the work. He said yes he was the one who was going physically install it. On the day of the project, he shows up with two workers and his heavy-duty utility trailer, which he unhooks in our parking area. I go over and meet them. Then Mike gets back into his truck to start leaving. He tells me that he is just going to go pick up some roofing paper and then will come right back before the workers finish removing the existing 2 layer of roofing. But instead, he never returned that entire day. The workers smoked constantly, coughing, hacking and spitting their flem everywhere. It was gross. When the workers finished taking off the first 2 layers of roofing, they started to place plywood on the roof. This made me concerned, because Mike was not back and the overhang had not been installed. I talked to one of the workers about where Mike was. The worker told me that Mike would be coming back soon. Multiple times I tried to call Mike on his cell phone. He did not answer. I kept getting a message that he was not available and it kept going to a mailbox that could not receive anymore messages, because it was full. This went on for hours, during which time, the workers placed plywood on the roof that was not flush and had gaps, so you could see up between the plywood and see the sky. I pointed it out to the workers, and they said it was because the plywood came with the ends not straight. I could see the whole roof was a mess of sloppily applied plywood and no overhang installed. FINALLY, after hours of calling, I FINALLY was able to call Mike and he FINALLY answered. I told him that the house had no overhang installed and the plywood was installed with gaps and not flushed. His answer to me was, "I am in Marysville (about 30 miles away), I don't have time to get there. It is not worth my having a heart-attack." He said, "What do what you want to do? Do you want me to shut it down?" I said, "YES. Shut it down." I get off the phone with Mike Lowell. Then I see one of the workers answer his cell phone. The workers then stop and start clearing out. Eventually they were picked up by someone. Mike Lowell showed up the next day. As he is walking up to our front door the first thing he says to me is, "Give me a check for $1600 dollars and we'll call it even." Now remember, this portion of the job was to cost $1100. He was asking for $500 more and his workers had only done a 1 1/2 out of the 4 parts they were supposed to do. And what they did do was extremely poor quality work that will have to all be fixed. I answered Mike, "Where are the eves? There are no eves." He said he told his workers what to do and they said they could do it. I said to Mike, "You said you would be here. You said you were coming right back. You said you were the one who was going to install the eves." He told me, "I cannot watch my workers. I have a business to run." He said he would leave his heavy-duty large utility trailer in our parking area until he got paid. I said, "Fine! Then we will charge you $100's a day for each day it is parked in our parking area." Eventually he left with his heavy-duty large utility trailer, but not before dumping all the construction debris out on our dirt driveway, nails and all, including the workers empty cigarette packaging, etc. The roof is a horrid mess. It is unfit for any type of shingle installation. It will have to be completely redone. And of course it is now open to the weather. We have had to put tarps across everything to protect it until we can get a contractor to fix the mess Mike Lowell's workers made. Lies and extortion are what we received from Step Above (Crap) Construction by owner Mike Lowell.
