The inspection went well. Everything I was told looked great, no pumping was needed. My service man (Name forgotten) found a possible flaw in our system that could be amended quickly and not too costly. So I went ahead and made a second appointment to have this problem fixed.

I called and made an appointment Friday for the following Monday, The company was punctual, dug up the lid, answered my “dozens” of questions, and were back the next day to pump giving me a discount for the inspection. They were honest and forthcoming that I could have waited for another year rather than pump now, however it seemed to make sense to get it all done by uncovering the thing once.

It went well. They are an exceptionally easy company to work with. As promised as a matter of fact, the guy actually came out on a Saturday afternoon when he was technically closed. Their price was in line with the market. Particularly, because he came out on a Saturday afternoon when he was technically closed, it was very much worth it. Very economical. We have actually used them twice. We have a house and I needed to make sure that the septic tank was serviceable. That was one time that he came out. That was the time that he came out on a Saturday afternoon. The second time was for the county inspection. They filed  a couple of errors. They gave us 48 hours to correct the errors before we would be reported to the county. If we got those errors corrected within 48 hours, they would report us as having passed the county inspection, which they did. They're very reasonable folks to work with and a very easy company to work with.

The guy’s name was David and he was professional. He told me some things that I needed to look for because I didn’t know where my high water alarm was. He explained about how a septic tank works which I had not known previously. He was prompt too. He was an employee and not the owner but he was willing to explain things to me. There was a problem as it turned out with the drains, and he took the time to have me go upstairs and flush toilets and things so that we could make sure that it was in fact the problem. So we confirmed that and he couldn’t do anything about it but he took extra time with me. The cost was actually more than it has been in the past but that is just a sort of normal increase.

The person performing the work arrived early.  The time we scheduled was 7:30 AM; he arrived at 7:00.  This did not cause any problems.  I had the two tank covers uncovered.  The person doing the work did a thorough inspection of the septic and drain field.  He filled me in on what he found; everything was in good working order.  We discussed pumping the tank and I requested that he go ahead with that.  He completed everything professionally and efficiently.  He filled out the required paper work.  He informed me that a copy of the inspection results would be sent to the county, and one to us.  I was totally satisfied with the services provided.

Rick Tamman was very friendly and recognized that the new WA state law requiring Septic inspections every 3 years can be overkill in many circumstances. He was prompt and knew not only the builder of my house, but the manufacturer and installer of this cement tank. Rick has worked in the area for over 20 years and has gotten to know many factors and what to look for. The charge of ~$300 for replacing a baffle (climbing into the septic tank and installing a 4' "T" Abs pipe) - about 20 min work. + $120 for the baffle itself seemed a bit high. There was a greater element of value of experience here than meets the eye. A lesser experienced inspector may interpret rules in different ways and force a customer to purchase a major system upgrade where the system is actually functioning perfectly well. I was grateful enough to have someone who recognized the value of not "making work" and forcing me to comply with some incorrect interpretation of a requirement unnecessarily. The WA legislature has put homeowners over a barrel of unknowable proportions and expense risk. The Tammans (Johnny's) may be a bit high in price, but if the inspector is incompetent you can look at many thousands of dollars in pointless expense and red tape. Thank you WA legislature!
