Barron Heating is one of the most prominent heating contractor sin northwest Washington. I have dealt with them for several years to have my plumbing and heating serviced. On 10/11/2011 they serviced my equipment and replaced a Zone Supply Valve and charged me $156.00 for the part. I thought this was excessive and checked on the internet and found the identical part for $76.45. I called them on this and they said it was a mistake and that they used the and quot;wrong codeand quot;. However, they did refund the difference to me which was fair enough.
I then had them perform another service of my plumbing and heating on 7/2/14 and their technician replaced another Zone Valve at a cost of $329.10. That really got my attention and upon checking the internet I found that I could purchase the exact same part for $79.95. I had watched the technician install this part which he simply snapped in and connected a couple of wires in less than 2 minutes. I understand that there is some markup to be expected on parts and there were a few minutes of labor but still the markup of 411% seemed excessive to the point of being a fraudulent rip-off. I visited Barron in Ferndale and spoke to the Parts Manager and found him evasive on this issue of charges for parts. I also contacted the owner of the Company, Mr. Barron and his attitude was and quot;this is what we charge, take it or leave it”.
My experience with this company indicates that this rip-off on parts is obviously a regular practice. They have a good number of trucks and technicians on the road every day and are probably overcharging the public for tens of thousands per week. I am sure an audit of their books would reveal some shocking numbers. Surely there needs to be some protection for the public, especially seniors from getting ripped off by this type of unscrupulous company who arrogantly behave this way to their unsuspecting customers.
The installer came and was quite upset that he was the only guy assigned to the job and was telling me that Barron should have pre-made some of the parts that were being installed and he was really stressing about getting it all done on time.
It was installed correctly and on time which was nice. However the city inspector had not signed it off. I ended up calling the city inspector and meeting with him to complete the process. He could not sign off on the job until the outside vent had a proper screen on it. It took about a week for Barron to complete this 5 minute job. So overall the its a very good product, it was installed properly, but I didn't appreciate the extra expenses that were uneccessary or added on the day before installation and after the contract was signed.
When the work was completed, the entire house duct system was pressure-tested and any metal joints with leakage were sealed with liquid compounds.
Barron Heating did all the ductwork and testing, and an insulation subcontractor did all the insulation cleanout and replacement. All workers were very knowledgeable, approachable, completely receptive to the customer. Before beginning any task, they communicated clearly what they would be doing and why. The quality of their work was excellent and clean-up was thorough at all times.
The field sales rep and technician, Grant, is extremely conscientious, providing tremendous input into solving problems correctly. Complete in his follow-up, he retested the system twice to be sure the computer analysis was accurate.
In the past 7 years we have used Barron 3 times. First we had an electic air filter installed, 2 years later a high-efficiency propane gas furnace, and now this repair.
You might get the same things done for less money, but it would not be at all the same quality or level of service. With Barron we have peace of mind, confident in their workmanship and integrity.
We have been extremely satisfied and would recommend them to anyone.
