Prewitt Hardwood Floors Inc
About us
Prewitt Hardwood Floors, Inc., has been creating custom hardwood floors since 1982 for residential and commercial projects. My woodworking journey began in 1982 when I made a change from painting cars and was hired by a sports flooring contractor. For a number of years, I painted the lettering, logo’s, and custom graphics on numerous projects. My love for woodworking led me to the installation, sanding and finishing side of the business. Some notable projects include: Pepperdine University, UNLV, Los Angeles Forum, Ohio State University, The Southeast Asia Games (Manilla), as well as countless others. I grew tired of the constant traveling and decided — in an effort to stay home — I would move in to the residential market. Upon doing so, I noticed a true lack of craftsmanship in our industry and decided it best to become a master of my craft. I began taking in all of the training I could find. I completed the Descol training (Amsterdam), Walo training (Switzerland), Junckers training (Denmark), eight courses from the National Wood Flooring Association (St.Louis) including the expert courses and “certified inspector” training. I have operated as the hardwood flooring instructor for the Northwest Carpenters’ Union, and have completed a two year Master Furniture Certificate from the Northwest Woodworking Studio. In the fall of 2010, I was named BONA KEMI’s “certified professional” for the Pacific Northwest.

The initial quote was for sanding/stripping the prior finish, two coats of sealer, and two coats of finish. At the start of the job however, it was quickly determined that our floor had a a prefinish process done that would have inhibited the adhesion of traditional sealers and a Swedish finish was the recommended finish for our floor. Three coats of this finish were applied.
As this was the foyer of a two story, open area, we were concerned with dust invading the entire house. At the start of the job, the two doorways leading into the foyer, exposed stair railings, and the upper landing were covered with plastic and taped off. The amount of dust created by sanding - while using the dust extraction devices from Bona that Prewitt uses was negligible! A light dusting, if any was found on surfaces in the area where they were working, but hard to detect any other dust throughout the rest of the house. More of an issue than dust was the smell of the Swedish finish used. We were thankful for mild weather and 50+ degree dry days while work was completed, as all of the windows needed to be opened to air out the house. The smell dissipated within 3-4 hours.
The work progressed quickly and efficiently and now, three days after work started, our floor is finished and looks great! We are thrilled with the outcome.
Overall, I am very thankful for the low-mess, high quality outcome of the floors. We would definitely use Prewitt again in the future, if the need arose.
