They were not responsive and very hard to schedule. The work was only fair. It seemed that they were only focused on getting paid. I used this service earlier, and they were very good, but they seem to have scaled back during the recession, and just aren't up to the task.

They did a great job. We had a specialized request for them, and they did a good job. Their timing was particularly good. We were pushed for time, and they were able to put us in. They were easy to work with, they came in, did the job, cleaned up and got out.

We had hardwood floors installed in 2010 and for the most part everything went okay. Before the job Dave was very responsive and attentive. It was after the job was completed that things got weird. There was some miscommunication regarding the last payment where Dave wanted it technically before we had a chance to look at the floor and our confusion seemed to upset him a bit. Once they put down the varnish you have to be away from the home for 2-3 days so we were in a hotel 20 miles away from the house (close to work). Dave pretty much demanded that we arrive at the house and make final payment before the job was done. We hadn't planned on that, didn't really agree with it (since we felt final payment should only be made after a customer has a chance to look things over), but made the trek to his office and made final payment without seeing the completed job.
Dave leaves you with a sheet of papaer that basically says not to panic if you see what looks like blemishes or defects in the finish because it takes a month or so for the finish to set in and most of those issues clear themselves up over time. Except they don't. As others have noted we have area in the corners that look like no stain was put down, but there is varnish on the wood. It looks awkward. Trying to get Dave to return a phone call to discuss those issues is a challenge. He becomes less responsive (nonresponsive?) after the job is completed and for that the professionalism and responsiveness ratings are taking a hit from our perspective.
Other than that we're generally pleased with the job they did. We just wish they cared enough to address our concerns after the job was completed rather than disappear and not return phone calls.
UPDATE: We had a painting contractor scratch the hardwood floor while moving furniture and tried to consult with Dave regarding possible solutions for a repair. True to form they do not return phone calls.
UPDATE: Dave must have seen the review because he called an made an appointment to look at the floor. He was a no show for the appointment and has not returned calls.

We purchased a home which had Maple hardwood floors throughout the downstairs. The previous owner had several pets and the floors were a mess. We contacted Dave @ All About Hardwoods and he came out promptly and consulted with us. One of our desires was to have the floors darkened a bit (stained), as the original Maple was very light. Dave said it would be no problem and after sanding the floors he put 3 sample shades down for us to choose from. We chose the color then Dave stained the floors and finished with a beautiful Swedish Finish - we love it!

The owner Dave Benson came and the workers were pleasant. They did a fine job except that we were told that they would be using some device that kept the dust down but there was a lot of dust. They were very good about the staircase and when I asked the owner about fixing the spots on the stairs he came back and did that. However there was one spot near the entry way that was not wood, it was the putty that they used. We had some hardwood already then we had the carpet. They pulled up the carpet and took it away. Then they had to smooth the part that was already there with the part that they installed. I walked in at different times when they were at work and I know this that they had to use some kind of putty or something to make the transition smooth or make the nails or the stables that they installed smooth. They got rid of all those putties except for one. I brought it to the attention of the owner when he came back to inspect. I can't even remember what his comment was. It was nothing but he felt it would be too much of a job to sand it down and redo it. So it is still there. The rest of the floor looks great. It is only about 2 inch by 1 inch or something and it is scattered enough, unless you are looking for it, probably you would not pay much attention to it. Overall they did a good job. It looks great. Price wise it seems fair. As for responsiveness, at first I did not get a response from Dave but that is because their business is set up above a boat business just near the New Fred Meyer and Lynnwood and they are not there all the time. They have a person who is there for part time I understand from the women in the boat business whom I talked with. So I did not get a response the first time. I had to call again and then they were responsive. Dave is a very nice amiable person. I probably would use them in the future. But I would be very careful to remind him of what he did the first time. I enjoyed talking with him.

Dave was responsive, prompt, and professional. I liked Dave's manner, the speed with which he sent me a quote after seeing the job, and the fact that he has his own employees rather than using subs. His bid was more reasonable than the 2 other companies I received bids from for the same work. He was very knowledgeable and promptly answered all my questions about how the job would go, how long it would take, and was able to work around my schedule. I was impressed with his level of detail and thoroughness. I was a little worried about the color of stain that would be used and he made a special trip out to my house a few days before the work was to begin so he could show me how the stain would look on my floor. When the day came for the work to be done, he was on time........as was everyone who came to my house for each day of the project during the week it took to finish. This was important to me because I have a gated horse property and I needed to coordinate when the gate would be open. Dave called me each evening to let me know what they would be working on the following day, what time they would be arriving, and how long it would take them to finish. They used dustless sanding which required less cleanup on my part and they made sure that they cleaned up their tools and equipment each day when they finished. The job was finished on time and looked great! I would not hesitate to recommend All About Hardwoods to my friends and family.

Dave was super easy to work with. He came out and gave an estimate. He quoted exactly everything I asked him to quote in a clear and concise manner. It was all itemized out. I had a tight schedule for installation and he was really worried that he might not be able to get the wood in time, but he pulled strings and made it happen within my time line. He communicated the schedule to me very well. He was here when he said he'd be here and the work was all done on time. His crew was polite and the work site was left in an orderly manner over night. It wasn't left a mess. I am extremely happy with the work. The hardwood looks beautiful. In our final walk through I asked Dave to fix a couple areas that were rubbing at entryies, etc. and install transitions. He do so immediately. I had one issue with them applying non-paintable caulking to the wall base after it was reinstalled. Dave was aware that I was going to be painting within a couple weeks of installation. I did't find out about the caulk until the painters arrived. I was worried I was going to have issues with getting Dave to fix the issue since I had already paid him in full. I called Dave and he was at my house within 15 minutes and spent an hour scraping off all the caulk. I was so impressed with his reponse to my concern. He apologized and said he didn't understand how the mix up had happened because they never use that type of caulk. He fixed the problem immediately! Dave and his team were professional and a great company to work with. I would highly recommend them to everyone!

Dave came to my home and bid on refinishing the very damaged and neglected oak floors in my DR and kitchen and on installing and finishing matching oak floors in the adjacent living room. He took my word on there being no hardwood under the carpeting (this had been per a quick check by our real estate agent and my late husband, at the time we bought the house over 20 yrs ago). The bid was almost exactly the same as another contractor's, and I liked Dave's manner, the speed with which he sent me a quote after seeing the job, and the fact that he has his own employees rather than using subs, so I gave him my business. They started work on the date we had agreed upon, a few months after my initial contact, when I was seeing whether the work would be affordable for me. Dave confirmed that he could still honor his original quote price, when we set the date. Work began on a Monday morning and since we have six cats, they and we needed to move out on Tuesday--the cats would not have tolerated the noise of the sanding very well, and neither would the humans. Of course, by Wednesday when the staining started, the off-gassing from the finish would make it absolutely necessary to sleep elsewhere for at least a couple of nights till the place could be aired out. The first discovery was that...surprise! there was hardwood under the carpet. This ultimately resulted in a reduction of nearly $1000 from my original quote, since far less new wood was needed. As he said, he would normally have checked out for himself the pre-existence of hardwood before quoting, and he apologized for that omission. As with the original quote, he was very speedy in giving me a new dollar figure in writing. Taking out the old nasty wood where a certain cat and dog (now long dead) had stubbornly and frequently peed was a horrible job but they did it to perfection. If I had not seen that mess I could not have valued just what a great job was done. In addition, one reason my DR and kitchen floors were so neglected was that they had been stained the ugliest possible color, a sort of greyish pickled oak. Ugh. I really had my doubts that could ever be pulled out of the wood grain so that a new stain would look good, but Dave's guy did such a wonderful job that the floors blend seamlessly. You would never know that putrid greyish color had ever been there, or that anything like pet urine had ever been a factor or that all the flooring was not installed at one time. The overall color is a lovely golden brown that tones nicely with our cabinetry. I was particularly impressed that the refinisher took the trouble to reseat the valve for my whole-house vacuum system in such a way that it is flush to the floor and not a tripping hazard. Dave and the worker who did most of my work were both very respectful of my home and of my cautions about not letting the cats get outdoors. They were pleasant and considerate to deal with at all times. They gave us clear instructions before they came as to what needed to be done to get ready for them, and they left good instructions afterwards about how to protect and clean the floors. I give a B for responsiveness solely because there were a couple of small items that needed clearing up after the main job was done, and we had some minor communications glitches for a few days. I was able to see the finished floor for the first time on that Saturday, and realized the baseboards had been replaced so that they met at the corner of the room but because of some stone floor trim by the fireplace, that meant the baseboard at the other end of the room was raised almost half an inch off the floor. In addition, the stair riser on a fifteen foot long step down into the LR seemed to be pretty sparsely finished, and there was a six inch by one half inch bare spot just in front of the refrigerator. I sent Dave an email that day, and starting on Monday we seemed to have a series of emails and calls that kept crossing and recrossing. Finally on Wed. he said he would show up at 9:30 on Friday, which he did (actually, closer to 8:40, which was fine). In about an hour, he took care of all the small issues I had raised, and I was completely happy. A B isn't a bad grade at all...it just isn't an A. In every other way, this company earned an absolute A + from me.

Dave was responsive, prompt, and professional. His bid was in line with what others were charging for the same work. He promptly answered all our questions about how the job would go and how long it would take, and was able to work around our schedule. When the day came for the work to be done, he was on time. I was impressed with his level of detail and thoroughness. When we returned to our home the floors looked brand new, and there was no damage to our baseboards, walls, etc. We'd hire Dave again and would definitely recommend him. UPDATE: We'd had another contractor accidentally drop some plumber glue on our floor 3 1/2 weeks after our floors had been completed, which left a tough stain to remove. We asked Dave to come over and let us know how much it'd cost to refinish the damaged area, but he was able to remove the stain without having to re-sand the damaged area, and didn't even charge us for the visit. All the more reason we'd hire and recommend Dave again! Thanks Dave! :)

Because of our personal schedule we had to reschedule this job three times. The firm was most cooperative. When we finally were able to work the job into our schedule the firm showed up on time and did perfect work. There was no mess and we were surprised by the limited amount of dust in the house. The staff is personable and answered our numerous questions without hesitation. The job was finished a day early. The floor looks beautiful.

Dave, the owner, was prompt for the estimate and easy to deal with. I had received three bids and his was slightly above the lowest but I felt his experience and knowledge was better. The crew was great and paid attention to details. When they were finished it looked even better than we had imagined. The flush mounted heat vents are a nice touch and the detail work on the stairs was perfect. I will use them again to do another coat and eventually a refinish way down the road.

I was very pleased with it. I think the generally did a good job. In looking at it I noticed that around the edges where they had to use the hand sander it might not be the same, but I am happy with it. They did a good job of picking out a color to match my kitchen cabinets.

It turned out very good. We enjoyed working with Dave. They handled it while we were away. You could trust the people in the house. It was dust free. We had a couple of little spot s where a hair got caught in polyurethane. They came out and fixed that and did it in a timely way.
