Washington Roofing Services (WRS) came out to tarp our chimney for a chimney flashing leak, but improperly installed the tarp. They tarped over 50% of our roof unnecessarily, without even covering the chimney flashing, and drilled holes into the roof to hold down the tarp. This created additional leaks into our home. After three attempts to try and tarp our roof and chimney, the chimney flashing was still leaking, and now the holes that they drilled into the roof were leaking as well from different areas of the roof. WRS used old tarps with holes and large screws and 2x4s to hold the tarp down to the roof, and covered up plumbing vents. Because of the additional leaks, we had to hire another roofing company to come and properly re-tarp the roof to prevent additional interior water damage until we could hire someone for repairs. This second tarp cost us double what it would have originally cost if it was done properly the first time because the area tarped by WRS was so large. I informed the owner of WRS, Andrew Pace, of the leaks caused by his tarp, and he initially agreed to cover any damages caused by their work. I proceeded to interview and get estimates from 10 different roofing companies, and the majority of these companies recommend a new roof due of the extent of the damage caused by WRS's tarp job. Mr. Pace now refuses to cover any costs that were associated with us hiring another company to fix our roof. He disagrees with us having to replace the roof and insists that he could have just repaired it. Given the number of holes punched through the roof, there was no way to just repair the damage and risk additional leaks. He also argues that we should have allowed him to do the repairs himself, however, since his company caused additional damage to our roof, we would never trust him to do the work properly. He argues that the second tarp put on by the other roofer was counterproductive, which is absolutely absurd since water was leaking from the holes he created in the roof. He also refuses to cover the cost of the additional tarp. He indicated that he fired the two employees that came out to tarp the roof and that this was an educational experience for him and his company. WRS is a new company and their employees are not trained experienced roofers. After multiple back and forth emails, Andrew Pace continues to argue the discrepancies of what should or shouldn't have been fixed, and who should be responsible for repairs in order to avoid covering the damage that he caused. Please do not trust this company with your roof.
