Northwest Energy Systems

About us

Northwest Energy Systems is a full-service HVAC contractor, able to offer services related to complete heating system design, installation, repair or replacement as needed. We work primarily in Whatcom County, and can travel to Skagit or Island counties as requested. Northwest Energy Systems started as a welding shop in 1976 and was called Rite Weld Company until ownership changed in 1993. Over the years the company became more involved with the heating systems and installations, until finally welding was discontinued completely. Since 1976 Northwest Energy Systems has been evolving with the technology required to support, design, build, install, service and maintain anything from basic residential HVAC to complex facility systems. Our services include natural gas or propane forced-air furnaces, heat pump systems, gas or wood fireplaces, water heaters including tankless water heaters, and ductless mini-split heat pump systems. Full ductwork installation or repairs, and we have a full fab shop for custom fittings as needed. We offer 24-hour emergency service for necessary repairs. Our service professionals take great care in addressing the needs of our customers. From the initial contact by the estimator, through installation, and as we finish the job, we ensure good communication with the property owner, making sure all their questions are answered and concerns addressed. We take great pride in our customer’s happiness with their new equipment, our business philosophy being to grow through satisfied customers and “word-of-mouth”. Dan Olson has owned and operated Northwest Energy Systems for nearly 12 years, and worked as the project manager for the previous owner, for 5 years prior to that. I feel confident that we can provide the any services that you need.

This was an outstanding item from the furnace servicing they performed a month earlier. I am very impressed with the technician's knowledgeability, attitude, and timeliness, and with Northwest Energy Systems. Highly recommend this company.

After struggling to get bids and also being charged a "call-out" fee from other companies, I contacted Northwest Energy who were not only able to give me a ballpark figure over the phone but were able to schedule for the next day. They are very friendly and easy to deal with, gave me a "time and materials" estimate that was spot-on, arrived on time and did everything right. Very pleased with this company.

I am very satisfied with their service. Whenever they come and do their service they make sure they clean up, like the non-disposable filter and things that are difficult for me to do they have done.

He was able to get this done in less than two hours. He did a great job and was very knowledgeable. He has an excellent personality. We will be using him again. It was a pleasure to work with him, and he knew his stuff.

They arrived on time and completed the work in one day. We consider
the installation a work of art. We show it to everyone who visits.
When we had some questions about the hot water heater, they sent out a
service man who spent several hours checking the hot water heater and
consulting the maker (Noritz). After much discussion it was concluded
that our recently installed water reducer shower head was the cause of
our problem (took forever to get hot water at the shower head and it
cooled during the shower). By turning on the sink faucet at the same
time as the shower, we resolved our problems. We, of course, turn off
the sink as soon as the shower water gets hot

I have moved to a new area and need instruction about systems which I am not familiar. The company answers the phone via a live person who was very polite and helpful. The appointment was convenient for me and the technician was willing to take the time necessary to answer all my questions.

Northwest Energy Systems I'd like to compliment two of the employees, Elmer the Technician, and Janine the Office Manager. They both provided excellent customer service, to me on Tuesday July 30th. Elmer did an amazing job on the yearly maintenance service on our furnace and balancing the air flow in our HVAC system. Knowing that the furnace and HVAC air flow was maintenance properly, will not only make our home more comfortable throughout, it will also make the system run more efficiently. Efficient operation of the HVAC unit means lower utility bills and most important to me are the safety of my family and a peace of mind as a homeowner. Therefore I’m pleased to recommend Northwest Energy Systems without hesitation for the services they provide. They both showed professionalism and ability to get to the bottom of the situation quickly exceeded my expectations. Such a commitment to great customer service is to be commended. You can be sure that I will continue to do business with Northwest Energy System years to come.

It was fast and easy. The estimator was prompt in giving the estimate. He gave us 3 options to choose from and explained the advantages and disadvantages of all 3. He also pointed out that our existing furnace was too big for the area it serviced and that might have been the reason why the heat exchanger had cracked. And because of the bigger than needed furnace we were burning more propane and our heating bills were astronomical despite the fact that we turned the thermostat to only 65 degrees during daytime when we were home and kept it at 60 at night and when we were at work. Next winter we'll be able to see if there is any difference in our use of propane.
When we finally decided who to hire for the job and what system to choose, they were back quickly (they stock the furnaces they sell) and installed a new, more efficient furnace in just a few hours.

However, the problem remained. We lived with the problem for about three weeks before we replaced the thermostat; on our own. The problem is now fixed. Our concern was that maybe the thermostat should be looked at first. Note: We knew the circuit board was damaged so we elected to have it replaced.

I had questions about upgrading the heating system and installing a heat pump to make the system more energy efficient. The serviceman gave me a name and number to call at the company, which I did. Joe answered my questions with detailed information so I was able to make an informed decision about when and how to upgrade.

We just moved into our house, are new homeowners, and knew we needed to get our existing furnace serviced before the winter. We had received a couple of recommendations about NES, so we called them. The customer service rep on the phone was very nice and not intimidating at all. The technician, Elmer, was on-time, and performed the service as expected, which took about an hour. He also showed us exactly how to replace the filters, what size to buy, and explained the type of furnace we have, and about how much longer it will last. He also gave me an estimate of how much a new high-energy furnace, incl. labor, would be, so we can save our money and replace it when the time is right. (His quote was about $3,500.) We purchased the Energy Savings Agreement, which is $85/year (and we pre-paid for next year, so our total for this visit was about $180), which gives a reduced service rate (normally $105) and priority if something were to happen to the furnace during off hours.

I had called a couple other companies in town, but they couldn't give me a quote, because they based their rate on my location-distance from their store-what needed to be fixed and how long they were on the job. I don't like this type of quote because I have no way to compare it to other companies and I feel like once they are at my house, I can't refuse payment.

Overall, we are very happy with our experience with NES!

Our first contact with Northwest Energy Systems was with a service person who came to repair our existing furnace. After examining the 30 year old furnace, the service person told us we need a replacement part that would cost approximately $300. He then went on to tell us that the current rebates on energy efficient furnaces, plus rebates from the gas company, would make purchase of a new high efficiency furnace a good option to consider. After thinking the situation through, we decided to purchase a new 96% efficient gas furnace. One call to the office, and we were scheduled for an installation. On October 24, Scott came to put in our new furnace. He was here about 6 hours. He removed the existing funace, installed the new gas furnace, and cleaned up all evidence of his work. We were highly pleased with the courteous treatment we received and with the service of all the personnel who visited our home. The provided exactly what we wanted, with no delay and very little disruption in our home while they did it.

I thought the thermostat was going and the heater would never get the house up to set temperature. I called NWS and decided to have them fix the problem because they were the most reasonable.

They were fantastic. Not only were they neat, clean, punctual and within budget, but they also came out to make sure that it was adjusted properly. I would recommend them to anybody. I spent around $4000. Their price was excellent; they were actually less than competitors. I found them on the phonebook. My wife and I are thrilled about them. I have nothing negative to say about them. I will use them again in the future, if required.
