Quickly realizing she couldn't help us, Northwest Appliance Repair gave me the names of two of her competitors. That kind of selflessness is appreciated. Even though she would not benefit, she could have let us search on our own. We appreciate the integrity of this company.

Our 12 year-old clothes washer began making a horrible knocking / clunking sound during agitation. On a Tuesday morning, I called Northwest Appliance Repair based on the other positive Angie's List reviews, and reached the voice mail indicating that Carol was speaking with another customer. Within 30 minutes, I had a call back from Carol. I explained the problem, and that it was not an emergency. She mentioned the description of the noise may be consistent with a pulley or belt wearing out, but it might be something else. She promptly set an appointment for Rich to come out and assess the problem on Thursday between 1-3 pm. Since I would be working during that time, she found out how much lead time I needed to get home from work to meet Rich. I inquired about the rates, and Carol explained that the call-out / first hour is charged at $68.00/hour, and that Rich does not charge for time if he has to go pick up parts that might not be on his truck. She explained Rich would give an estimate and get authorization before performing any actual repairs.
On Thursday, Rich called ahead and did give me enough time as I requested to get to the house to meet him. He showed up at the time he said he would. Rich took off the front panel of the washer, put the washer into the agitation mode, and promptly diagnosed the problem. Unfortunately, it was not a bad belt, but the transmission going bad. He then put the cover back on as he explained the problem and what it would take to repair it. He mentioned that he had recently priced out the transmission on a similar machine, and it was at least a couple hundred dollars. He candidly advised that he would not recommend repairing our machine, due to the high cost of the replacement part(s) as well as the time for the labor involved. He explained we could keep using the machine until it gave out completely. But he also cautioned that when the transmission did fail completely, the machine would no longer be able to brake / slow the speed of the spinning basket, and that water would likely spill out of the machine.
This is a 12 year-old, top loading washing machine that had been approximately $500-$600 new. My wife and I had already agreed that since the washer was so old, if the repairs were more than a couple hundred dollars we would probably forgo the repair and get a newer, more energy efficient machine. (After Rich left, I used a popular search engine and confirmed the transmission for our model washer is around $250.00-$275.00, with shipping costs on top of that)
Rich had diagnosed the problem and put everything back together in about 10 minutes, and very nicely did not charge us the full hourly rate: he only charged a small fraction. I found this very, very reasonable, and will not hesitate to use Northwest Appliance Repair again and will gladly recommend them to my friends and family.

He was very kind, efficient and honest. He works out of his home, and his wife, I believe, answers and sets up the service calls. Couldn't ask for a nicer lady!

It was a pleasure, as usual. I have had Rich work on my appliances in the past - both in my home and in my 2 rental homes. He has worked on all types of appliances for us - washers, dryers, stoves, and dishwashers. He does great work. He helps us keep our older appliances working, and he tells us when it is time for new. His work and recommendations are very much appreciated!

We were pleased with the service. I believe this comment area is redundant. I said what I wanted to say above.

My gas stove had been making a high-pitched whistle when we turned on the oven. Finally, around Christmas, my daughter had turned on the oven, and nothing but gas came out! Just after N.Y. Day I called N,.W. Appliance, and they were very good about working around my schedule.
Carol (the office personal) is very friendly, and we made an appointment for Friday between 1 - 3pm. Ritch showed up about 1:30pm. I told him the details of what had been happening, and he also was curious about the whistling sound. It took no time for him to find out that the ignator had gone out. Ritch had the part on his truck and quickly replaced it. Ritch then tested the oven to make sure it worked ,and that's when he heard the whistling sound! He diligently checked the entire stove, turning on burners, etc..He then confirmed to me that the whitsling sound came from the valve, however, there were no leaks and gave me an estimated price on replacing it.
Since Ritch explained and reassured me that there was no chance of a leak or explosion, and that the only harm was the high-pitched noise, I decided to wait on replacing the valve.
I will certainly call him again to replace or for any future work.

They fixed a few appliances for me in the past few years. I really like it that they are family owned business. They are really honest and professional.

Went smoothly, they even helped me make a case to In-Sink-Erator to cover the work under warranty when ISE originally rejected the warranty claim.

NW Appliance was very responsive with the initial estimate and the repair visit was prompt and efficient. I tipped the repairman and wrote it into the final total, and I received a call from the office that I had overpaid for the work. When I told her about the gratuity they were very appreciative.

I moved into a new house in a new state and the clothes dryer, which was relatively new, kept shutting off and not drying the clothes. It seems the dryer door latch was not staying locked and needed to be replaced. He replaced it, left everything nice and tidy, tested it to make sure that was in fact the problem and was friendly and professional during the process.

The problem with my Whirlpool side by side refrigerator/freezer was water leaking and then freezing in the bottom of the freezer compartment. The repairman came just a few days after my call and right on time. He was very polite, neat and knowledgeable. He didn't mind letting me watch, so I could do the repair if it ever became frozen again. He immediately diagnosed the problem, and had it fixed in very short order. Everything about the experience, from the initial phone call/appointment to the final billing was totally professional. They clearly are proud of their company.
