On the initial visit we discussed our uncertain plans for a kitchen remodel prior to selling our house. A $1500 retainer and contract were required to continue the work. The contract wording confused us and we asked for an explanation of the refund policy. We were assured that the unused portion would be refunded to us and we signed the contract. After we received a rough layout for a remodel we decided to stop the work. We requested a refund of the unused portion of the retainer. We were told we had signed a contract saying we would receive no refund. We asked for a list of the charges and saw that charges were included for the initial consultation and travel time to that consultation. We had been told that that consultation was free and that there was no travel time as the designer was in the area. We felt profoundly deceived. The designer offered her services for the remainder of the retainer, but we felt we could not work with her without the ability to trust her.
