I attempted to make a change to my flight on the Expedia website. I kept getting error messages after several attempts even after turning off extensions and trying another browser. At no point did I receive any confirmation of change nor did my itinerary on Expedia change. Since I was unable to make the change online I called Expedia for help. While I was on hold with them I logged into my checking account. Expedia had placed "on hold" the amount I would have owed for the change in flight, twice, totaling more than $3,ooo. Bear in mind, they never actually changed anything. When I pointed this out to the person I was speaking with, and then later a supervisor, I was told there was nothing they could do and that I needed to call my bank. The bank told me they couldn't dispute the charge until it went from just being on hold to being an actual charge. The fact that the hold was due to an error on someone else's part did not matter. Until Expedia fixes the problem I do not have access to that money. I can get by with that, but how many other people would wind up with missed payments and overdrafts because they can't access their own money? Everything about this is completely unacceptable. I will never use Expedia again.

I’ve stayed there three nights and they are totally disgusting. I booked my room through Expedia notifying them a week before my arrival writing them a letter stating I needed a handicap room. When I get there after seeing a picture online of a Hotel I realized it was actually a motel and they did not have a handicap room. The toilet was so low it was like sitting on the floor. With my arthritis it was extremely painful getting up from the toilet. The bathtub was so high I was unable to get my foot over the edge to take a shower having to wash up in the sink that had black bugs flying around in it. The room was dirty and dusty. They wash clothes were old, ragged and dingy, not white and grey with one even having a red stain that was not blood. It was an absolutely miserable time for me having to use that bathroom and that filthy, dirty room 103 after first being in room 109 with big holes in the walls. When I brought it to their attention the women said they were not supposed to book that room, yet they put my uncle in that same room 109 that night.

I consistently find that Expedia jas the best prices for our winter vacations to more tropical climates. I have compared it with many others before booking and the site couldn’t be beaten for an all/inclusive vaca with flight, etc. We always but trip insurance and we unfortunatley needed to use it on last years vaca. Expedia was helpful with their part and so was the insurance provider despite what I’d heard. Expedia is very easy to deal with if you are simply rebooking for a later date.

I booked my hotel through expedia for a specific date and right after I booked it, I immediately knew I booked it for the wrong date and called expedia to change this. I called not even 5 minutes later and explained to them that I had accidentally processed the wrong date. They said they would communicate with the hotel, fax the correct information and help me get it changed in order to accommodate my stay. At that point, everything was great and they had successfully changed my date- so they said. I then called a couple weeks after to check on the reservation and they had confirmed everything had been changed. Now, my daughter and I are booking the rest of our hotels for our trip and I called expedia because something told me I needed to triple check. Long behold, I called and they told me that nothing was changed and no paperwork was ever faxed over and they basically acted like they had NO CLUE what I was talking about. They had me on hold forever, tried to get me to pay more money and basically they aren't going to fix their mistakes in any way, shape or form. I guess you could say that they flat out lied to me by telling me that my dates were changed when they were not. Expedia is a TERRIBLE customer service company and I will be doing everything in my power to let everyone know that they should never use this company and they should use others who offer free cancellation and GOOD customer service. I am disappointed and now I have wasted money for no good reason. Please do not use this company, there are other companies that have much better service than Expedia. They have lost my business for life.

It's pretty generic - you book your flight and your hotel. It'd be nice if you could book multiple destinations through there. I had to make 2 separate transactions because I was visiting 3 different cities. I also like that you see competitors prices up front. If something changes, they will send you a notice.

4 months later we still have not received the refund. Each time we call their customer service call center, which is located outside of the United States, one of 3 things happen....put on hold for an extraordinarily long amount of time, hung up on, told a different story and the refund.

(1) On-line purchase process went fine until the end when an error message suggested that the purchase on-line had failed. There is a little confusion about saving inquiries prior to making final choices.  Better instructions are needed.
(2) Telephone follow-up attempt went fine except that the telephone person had no way of knowing that the on-line purchase had been completed despite the error message to the contrary, so we ended up being double booked.
(3)  We accidently found out we were double booked because the online approach was unclear about how we get started and could review our results and make changes; confusion over creating an account (and another %#@ password).  We did then create an account and saw the double booking.
(4)  The telephone agent was very helpful in dealing with the double booking and all went well thereafter.
(5)   Somehow, however, one airline ticket name was inconsistent with one passport name so the airlines had to re-issue one ticket during check in.

Trip Advisor sent me update showing that EXPEDIA had lowered their price at the Flagstff, AZ Hilton Garden for the same dates I am staying. I called and asked them if they would give me the best reduced price since all was thru EXPEDIA. They said, NO. all changes have to be done with 24 hours. The only change I wanted was their best price. I asked them how they would feel. The supervisor said, he would feel the same as I do. I feel like I am being ripped off since I will be paying $40.00 more per night for four nights. I will never us EXPEDIA again............Think twice before you make the same mistake

My husband was travelling with our little one, after he paid for the tickets we were told expedia can not issue my son's ticket via online because he was a minor. We requested a refund so we can but the tickets from one provider they refused. We then had to pay additional premium for my son ticket from a travel agent because they have to find the exact flight to accomodate the two of them. To add salt to injury, expedia charged our credit card twice although only one ticket was issued for my husband and no tickets was issued for my son, we are still trying to recoup 1398.00 from them.

Now if you do it right the first time you are probably fine and they didn't do anything they didn't say they would.  Their website was very clear about your refund and change rules.  The only thing they don't tell you is that the airlines won't work with you if you need to make a change or have a problem.  You have to work only with expedia.  Expedia won't charge change fees but the airlines definitely will and you cannot contact the airline to talk about those fees at all under any circumstances.  Next time I won't use them.  I'll book directly through the airlines.  Buy beware.  Make sure you know what you are purchasing, check your confirmation immediately to make sure it is correct.  If not take action immediately.  If you miss that 24 hour cancellation window you are screwed with no recourse.
They can be helpful and get you good fares but if you use a "service" you have to risk not being able to negotiate issues.

I have used hotels.com (Expedia uses this name) for 3 or 4 years without a problem.  I am a member of their Welcome Rewards program which offers a free night at a hotel for every ten days of paid stays.  A few months ago I booked a total of five nights at two different hotels in Los Angels to attend a wedding.  When I tried to book online, I was unable to get my Welcome Rewards number to come up, so I called their reservations number.  I spoke with a woman in India who seemed to speak English, but consistently got every detail of my reservation incorrect. After 20 minutes of this,  I asked to talk to a supervisor, was then placed on hold for another 10 minutes, and was then informed that there was no supervisor available.  I then slogged through another 15 minutes with the rep trying to get the reservations to reflect what I was trying to book.  This included getting my Welcome Rewards number correctly entered for the 5 nights I was booking.  This was important ,since I had recently received an e-mail stating that if I didn't complete a stay by early July my 6 nights credit for previous stays would expire.  The stays I was booking would keep the account active and provide me with a credit for a free night.
Recently I discovered that the 5 nights in LA were not being entered into my account, and I also received an e-mail with another pending expiration notice.  I e-mailed their customer (dis)service department information regarding credit for reservations for the 5 nights, and was then informed that they could not be credited since I had used a different e-mail address to confirm those reservations.  When I protested that I had been informed when making the reservations that I would receive credit after supplying my Welcome Rewards credits, I received a mindless repitition of the different e-mail/ no credit policy.  In addition, I pointed out that the two e-mail address were actually the same e-mail box, I once again received the canned reply.
In summary,: (1) I was misled about being credited initially  (2) The customer service rep was unable to understand English (3) I am being cheated out of a free night worth about $150  (4) Their e-mail address policy is ridiculous, since they had my Welcome Rewards number, and I was using the same e-mail box
My advice, don't deal with them because if there is a problem they may not understand it, and if they do, they are unresponsive and inflexible -- and those may be their good points.

I have used Expedia before and decided to use them again. After search various travel web sites, Expedia had the best deal for my trip to Jamaica. I was able to select a hotel based on the information they provided that I liked. I am very picky about the hotels I travel to. Once I made my hotel selection, they provided me with a good price for a flight but presented me with options to select a direct flight, which did cost a little more. Overall the booking process was very smooth and later the ability to navigate to my itinerary. I will most likely book my next trip with Expedia.

I booked a hotel through Expedia for my step-daughter's soccer tournament. We had to cancel one night due to the flu. I contacted Expedia and was told I had to cancel through the hotel. We got everything figured out and my money was refunded. No problem. About a week later, I received a phone call from "Expedia", leaving a message saying that the refund bounced and they needed me to contact them. The same number called me 10 more times that day. They also called my Mom and boyfriend, both contacts on my Expedia account. I called the number back after work that day and the person asked for my credit card number, saying that the refund had bounced. I was already skeptical due to the number of calls I received that day. I told him I didn't have my credit card on me and proceeded to call Expedia directly to see what was going on with the refund. The customer service rep verified that the person calling me was not legit and that the refund was fine. The probem is that Expedia did not do anything to resolve this situation. I called twice to speak to the fraud department...once I was cut off and the the second time, I was told there is not a fraud/security department. Obviously someone at Expedia had access to my account and information and was trying to get my credit card number. I had the phone number of the person trying to scam me, which Expedia could have traced and then could have terminated employment of that person. I also left my number with a customer service rep to be contacted after this happened. I did not hear back from anyone. After that, I removed all of my information from my account and will never use Expedia again. Good customer service requires taking care of your customers.

Bought two round trip airplane tickets for my parents.  Mom came down with some very serious health issues and the doctor advised her not to fly. We had cancellation insurance so after a bit of a hassle we were able to get a cancellation confirmation. Here is what we learned. As you already know, the tickets are non-transferable, non-cancelable, and non-refundable. Never buy airplane tickets for someone else. If you want to pay someone else's air fare, send money and let them buy the tickets because the tickets will be in their name. Try not to get ticket insurance with a company that is not licensed in your state.  Do read the fine print on any travel insurance policy. It is advisable to obtain flight ticket insurance with a local insurer that you are familiar with. In the event of a dispute, either in arbitration or court , the amount has to be over $200. and that might have changed to a higher amount during the past two years.
Expedia will represent an insurer to you when you purchase your ticket(s) but other than that, they have no responsibility to help you out if you have to cancel other than providing a cancellation confirmation. I'm not sure if Expedia can provide credit for another ticket purchase within a year. But if they do, the tickets would have to be in the name of the original travelers, in my case, mom and dad. .  They will tell you to refer the matter to your insurance carrier. In our case, the insurer is going to refund us the tickets for both mom and dad since dad is blind and they have to travel together. The money is going to be refunded to mom and dad even though I paid for the tickets. Mom has terminal cancer and is not expected to live much longer so the refund money will be tied up in her estate presumably. Their daughter (my sister-in-law) is the designated Executrix and I had to get a Power of Attorney to prove that she represents mom and dad. As you can see it is a giant hassle. Regardless, the ticket refund money will be refunded to mom and dad only. They have to follow procedure. (You have heard this many times before I'm sure.) Buyer be vigilant; be steadfast and beware.

I called the River Terrace Resort in Gatlinburg 30 days prior to check-in to make reservations on their local number....I requested a room overlooking the river with a fire place, we had stayed here twice before and we knew what we wanted!!!  I was told to hang on the line while they transfered me to their reservations line...little did I know...it was EXPEDIA... at check-in, the desk clerk was very unhelpful, rude and informed us that the booking service was done thru expedia and they don't book riverside rooms...only mountain view rooms, they claimed that the other booking service books all riverside rooms and there was nothing that he could do.  I asked why did you book me through expedia then, when I asked for a riverside view?  He also lied and said that we had requsted a mountain view room until I told him that I had called three days prior and confirmed what I had booked...then he backed up and said the notes did state riverside, then he stuck us in the very back building overlooking the parking lot...the room did not have a fireplace which I asked for and was supposed to have, was dated and was not up to my standards...as far as recommending expedia or river terrace resort in gatlinburg, TN.  I will not!!! The staff and room was sub par...definatly a big fat F for both!!!  BUT...The evening dest clerk, Donna, was very helpful and brought us some extra towels at our request even though her shift had ended... Thanks Donna, the only bright moment of our stay!!

RIPOFF ALERT WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING
My wife books reservations at a hotel in California through Expedia. We enjoy our stay and when we check out the clerk hands her a receipt that is $200.75 less than what she paid Expedia. She just got off the phone with the Expedia manager and he tells her that she was not supposed to see that receipt and that Expedia will not credit her the difference. Expedia's website states their so called low price guarantee if we find a cheaper price they will credit the difference plus give us a $50 voucher. They say they will do nothing. We will seek a higher authority to resolve this ripoff scam. We feel this is Internet fraud!

Used to book a hotel in my hometown to get away from loud noisy neighbors. Tried booking online with a coupon but it did not work so I called Expedia.l needed a room for the day of. So I contact an agent(who are all in a different country), and told her about my error. She did not seem to care that there was an error but was willing to book it over the phone. She first told me their were no rooms in that hotel i wanted and recommended nearby hotels at twice the cost. I told her that rooms were showing up on the site so why would they be full? She checked again and poof, there were rooms. So she was able to able my discount for the hotel room.
The hotel room didnt end up working due to a kids basketball being held that night and we weren't going to put up with that so we checked out. Hotel said they would contact expedia to give us a refund. They did.

What a nightmare! I'm trying to plan a trip for 4 people to Hawaii, my two friends are flying here from Ireland and the 4 of us are going to Honolulu for 3 days then Maui for 10. I need flights from home to both islands and home again, also hotels and rental cars on both Islands. I know where I want to stay in Maui  and found the resort on Expedia, their website does not detail where you are staying at the resort, having been there before I know where I want to stay. So I called Expedia, I got someone who I could not understand and apparently could not understand me, I was on the phone for 15 minutes with her just trying to get her to understand me. She could not answer my questions or find anyone else without a very thick accent to help me. REALLY??? you just lost some serious money on my trip.
I suppose expedia if fine for just booking a simple one way flight or a hotel someplace but for all you travel needs forget it! What a joke.

I did not realize that I was contacting Hotels.com at first; I thought I was calling the motel directly.  When I found out, I completed the reservation anyway.  Hotels.com quoted me a price, praised the motel they put me in, and billed my credit card as part of the reservation confirmation process.  This process was painless, but there were some problems:  Hotels.com billed me for $14 per night per room more than the motel would have charged if I had gone through them directly.  I didn't find out about the price differential until I got to the motel, but by then - under Hotels.com policies - it was too late to get the price adjusted.  The praise that Hotels.com gave the motel was misplaced.  It was not especially clean, and the maintenance and Continental breakfast were both poor.  I will not be using Hotels.com (which the motel told me was actually Expedia) or Expedia again.
