Upholstering
Chris Siskos, sole owner and sole upholsterer works out of his garage. I had some antique victorian upholstered furniture that had horse hair as padding and wanted someone willing to preserve the look of the piece as well as know how antique furniture were upholstered. He obliged and kept the horse hair as padding and didn't try to convince me to modernize its materials and finish. I like that.
Chris has been upholstering furniture since he was very young. Now in his mid-60s or so he continues to love his trade and gives it his full attention to detail and material. He will tell you if the fabric you choose is appropriate for its end use.
His labor cost is high because he is good and knows his trade. I would choose him if you have a piece of furniture that is one of a kind, unique, and you want the upholstery to last a long time.
Chris works fast given that he is the only one in the shop. If he tells you he'll get it done in a week, it will. And if you give him enough business, he might even give you a bottle of his pinot noir that he makes himself.
