Again, he performed a high quality job. He could have left on a high note after he finished the rest of the countertops that he was paid in full for the first time around, but.. He expressed a couple of comments to me on the way out the door that was a bit condescending and so leaving on a high note fell a couple of octaves short.
He clearly was offended I questioned his integrity (not his quality,) when I had reached out to him. When he finished the job, I said "They look beautiful thank you for coming back and doing the right thing." There should be no need to walk out the door with backhanded comments like "next time be a better judge of character," and "the buck clearly stopped with me" I had to remind him again, he was paid to complete a job so he wasn't left holding the bag nor "the buck". I would still recommend him to anyone who cares about maintaining their investment with high quality of service by an individual who has truly honed their craft to almost perfection but recommend to talk through the scope of work again so there isn't any confusion, oversight or sensitive feelings assumed.
Details of my project:
The travertine tile in my shower was completely ruined when it was cleaned with highly abrasive cleanser and heavy duty scouring pads. What was once beautiful travertine in a rich taupe color with a slightly glossy finish became stone which was stripped, lifeless, raw, rough to the touch, porous and almost devoid of color. It was in such bad shape, I was sure it was ruined beyond repair. I called around to several specialty stone providers and contractors, and they all highly recommended Steve, telling me that if anyone could fix it, it would be Steve. They were right.
I called Artisan Marble Restoration and left a message which Steve returned later that same day. Steve was very nice, articulate and knowledgeable on the phone and explained what had probably caused the damage to my stone. He was accommodating to my sense of urgency and came out the next day to look at it.
Steve diagnosed the damage which was complete etching of the stone deep down several layers, and gave me the good news that he could restore it to its original state. He explained the restoration process in detail. Prior to talking with Steve, I was skeptical that it could be completely restored, especially the bleached out color due to the extent of the damage, but immediately trusted Steve's expertise and honesty. Steve spent several days painstakingly refurbishing the stone using the best products available to ensure optimal results and longevity. To my amazement, he was able to restore the stone and the color completely back to its original beauty! In fact, thanks to his hard work and diligence, the stone is more beautiful and stronger than it originally was.
As part of the job, Steve said he would touch up my grout as well. Being the conscientious person that he is, Steve ended up re-grouting the entire shower. While doing so, he noticed that the grout on the floor was failing and had disintegrated all the way down to the water pan underneath (faulty builder install). He took to the task of treating this issue as well, but ran into some unexpected problems with the drainage which could jeopardize the integrity of the grout. He came out numerous additional times to address it, and even consulted a shower pan installer expert so he could diagnose the underlying problem with certainty. Steve went above and beyond the scope of my original job to address this unforeseen problem (and did not charge me extra), and refused to give up until it was fixed. (He also took it upon himself to fix a couple of additional spots on my bathroom floor that had been damaged, again no extra charge.) I felt bad that he had to spend so much unanticipated extra time on the grout, but it was he who was concerned about inconveniencing me.
I was extremely pleased with the quality of Steve's restoration and the level of conscientiousness and expertise he showed throughout the project. On a personal level, he was a pleasure to work with and very easy to have around. As an added bonus, Steve is a big Seahawks fan. (!) I would recommend Steve without reservation and with enthusiasm.
Steve came out today 1/6/15 and repaired a few grout areas as promised. Thank you Steve for being so responsive!
He explained he would use a method where he would apply a poultice to the counters, cover them with plastic, let them sit over the weekend, and then on Monday clean, polish, re-grout and seal them. My husband and I understood him to say that he could do the job for around $400. Our first mistake was not getting a written estimate.
After a successful overnight trial on a small test area, we agreed to proceed on a Friday. As Steve was finishing the application, my husband noticed several areas where the chemical was leaking out of the plastic and dripping down the fronts of our cabinets, staining them. He immediately brought it to Steve's attention, who seemed surprised and stated he had never had that happen before. Steve apologized, wiped up the areas on the cabinets and resealed the plastic, but the damage was already done. We made arrangements to leave the house for the weekend after the application.
Steve returned on Monday morning as agreed to begin the process of cleaning, polishing, grouting and sealing, which I assumed would take most of the day. I left the house for a 10:30 appointment, and when I returned about 90 minutes later, Steve had already left. My husband, who had been home but not in the area where Steve was working, explained that Steve had approached him stating he was finished, and requested to be paid over $700. My husband assumed that Steve and I had agreed on this new price, and paid him in full. This was our second mistake. I checked the counters and found that the poultice had worked very well in some areas, lightening up the color, but the results were uneven and appeared as though a second application was needed in areas of high use where it was still dark. The grout application was precise and the granite seemed polished. I could not tell if it had been sealed or not.
That day I attempted to contact Steve by phone, and finally left him a message explaining that I felt the results were uneven and a second application was needed; asking whether or not he had indeed sealed the granite; reminding him that we needed to figure out what to do about the stained cabinet fronts and questioning him regarding the amount of payment. Since that day I have left Steve 3 detailed phone messages and sent 3 emails requesting he contact me. He has not responded.
We had quite a bit that needed to be done and Steve did A++++++ work on on it all. He also went above and beyond and did additional repairs as he saw them and did not charge me additional. Some of the work he did included:
Repaired holes and scratched and cracked marble. floors
Cleaned marble and grout floors and sealed them.
Cleaned and repaired a worn marble counters in the kitchen and bathrooms and made them look better than new!
Cleaned and repaired and sealed marble shower. (He also went above and beyond a cleared out our clogged drain!)
His work is impeccable, he was honest, trustworthy and a pleasure to work with!
We will use him annually to maintain the work!
I had another company clean my grout and seal my master room shower, I was not happy with the job, but I will be having Steve Price redo this job as he explained the procedure and I know too that this job will be done RIGHT!!
I paid more for this service, but I got a lot more from this provider, than I did from the other one I got off of Angie's List!
Steve came and assessed the counters, gave his estimate, walked me through the viable options and exactly what he thought the best option was and why.
Job was done on time, per estimate, and incredibly clean. He even fixed a couple of marks in the bathroom counters/floors as a bonus even though it was not part of his original estimate.
He also gave me some good pointers on how to care for my countertops and clued me in to some neat tricks of the trade to equip me for minor repairs to keep my counters looking their best.
"This person has me confused with a different company. I have never heard of the name (member) and I have never done work in Covington WA."
I am very happy with the job. It is a relief to know that marble can be restored to it's original condition and sealed for protection. Artisan Marble Restoration did a great job. The owner Steve Price seemed like a dedicated professional with a great deal of knowledge and experience. He gained our trust and didn't disappoint.
