"It is amazing that it took over a year for this customer to complain about his beautiful deck and its railing! I wonder if it could be because I 'refused' to come back and build the exact same 'railing' around a tall concrete wall which has steps which lead down to his 'lower' back yard? I ask myself, 'Why didn't Dan call me and ask me to come out and 'see' any of his concerns? I have photos of every phase of this job from the 'initial site condition' to 'every phase of construction' to the 'final finished photos'. But, here is a little history about this job. I have never had a customer's 'first' payment, a check, be put on 'hold' by my bank for over a week because of a customer's dubious banking history! But that was not the only thing! When we arrived to start the deck I found that none of the garbage and debris which was strewn all around the deck site was still not removed! I asked Dan why he had not cleaned up the site as he was supposed to have done in preparation for us to start? Well he said, 'that 'guy' who tore off my old deck did not haul off this stuff away and 'I' do not have a way to haul it to the dump!' Note: that statement was bogus because the deck had been removed months before I did the initial site review for bidding the job and that the same debris which was in my initial photos was still there! So I said, "Well Dan when I came over to look at this job you said you would have al the debris removed and the site ready for us to start? (Dan) "Well huh, well huh?" I could see this was going no where!! So I went 15 miles back to my home and got my big trailer and hauled it back over and my two-man deck crew and myself proceed to spend the rest of that day and the next morning cleaning the place up and hauling 'his' garbage to the dump and I paid the fee with my nickel, as well as paid my employees! Dan never even offered to pay the dump fee! As my photos can attest to, his bags of garbage and debris included old rotting lumber, rocks, existing black contractor bags stuffed with garbage that had just been tied off and thrown out the patio door into the yard and left for weeks (based on the dust and cobwebs on each bag!), old paver blocks, pieces of pipe, even an old electrical box with the conduit and the wiring still attached to the main circuit panel in the garage, still just laying in the dirt, rusting! Can you imagine this scene! Well, sure, I could have just held off and not started the deck, but I needed to get that deck started to maintain on my company's work schedules for my next customers! I would be more than happy to send a Flash Drive loaded with a complete set of photos showing the conditions when we arrived to the final finished job! To continue, Dan was supposed to have removed shrubs and hedging that was in the same space as where the deck was to be built. Well, we had to do that job as well! Great start huh? Ok, about the deck itself. I designed the deck to have a structural load capacity o"
"This customer's comments do not deserve a counterpoint, however, for any possible concerned customer, I shall respond. I always take photos of my jobs at the beginning, in-process and completion. I will gladly send them to any 'concerned potential customer. The job was excellent like all my jobs! The customer 'had' paid cheap and truly unskilled contractors in the past and was suffering from doing so. He hired me to fix the past poor workmanship. I worked for $55.00 per hour and my bill for labor was $405 (before tax). I purchased all the materials and for the roof which required me to bring my flatbed trailer to the job site because of the long fascia boards. When the job was finished, I hauled all the debris to the dump and paid the fee myself from the $405.00. I did not charge the customer for that! Really if you read 'all' of my previous customer's comments you will be able to judge for yourself. Thank you, Sid :)"
