this company. Here are reasons why:
- very hard to schedule appointment if you are working, you
will have to wait extended time and take day off (probably only have 1 guy working for them)
- office lady Anna is very unprofessional with no customer
service skills
-left messages without calls back, had to keep calling
-very expensive - they charge $150 per hour (the hour starts
from the time the worker leaves their office in Williston so in my situation it
is $70 for them to just get here), after hours (they close at 3pm) the charge
goes to $170/hr plus materials
-they didn't finish the job on first appointment because
they were missing a saw to cut back of the cabinet - pluming company without
saw in huge truck ? The worker simply didn't feel like completing the work and wanted me to schedule another appointment
(week or more away) and wanted to charge me twice! It was very troubling to me
especially because I asked him before job was scheduled to a**** work to make
sure he can do it - so he should know he needs specific tool
-guy Brian (suspecting the owner) was not interested
finishing job, said he will have to "back out" leaving me with job
started but not completed (he connected half of sink on first appointment)
-spoke about them in my office afterwards and find out they
don't have a good reputation in Burlington area overall and none of my
coworkers would recommend this company
Save yourself headache and wasted time and hire someone else
( I will make follow up post later with info who worked for me).
A Falcon Plumber had to come back and redo the repair a few days after the first repair was made by the Falcon. After the first repair we left the ceiling open to make sure it was done correctly. Two years earlier Falcon had done the same repair and did the sheetrock repair over it and closed it up but the slow leak caused the ceiling to fall down. Brian was very firm about not addressing the previous repair error that caused the problem again and would not discount the work in any way. Made me pay full price for the repair first before he would even come back to fix the still leaking shower drain a second time. I then had to pay a new person to fix the sheet rocked ceiling in the downstairs apartment.
It took the two men 10 hours to install the new furnaces, a lot of hard work. They were diligent and professional, and they stayed on task to get the job done. They knew all the features required to be installed to be conformant with code. The boilers work very well. I later received independent confirmation that the boilers were good ones from Vermont Gas.
Finally, the bill, when it came, was quite reasonable for two boiler installation, especially considering the rush nature of the job.
So overall, when Falcon needed to be there, they were there with the men and equipment necessary to make the situation right. The did so with good communication an courtesy. And they did so without charging an arm and a leg for the privilege.
On the kitchen, Brian, the owner, strongly suggested that we use Moen fixtures, which we did (and don't like, as it was scratched literally on the day of the installation--so it's proving to be about as reliable as the one it replaced--and it's not very nice looking, just the best of the lot, which isn't saying much). But when the faucet came loose, he wanted to charge nearly $300. I asked our current plumber if it had been properly installed; he said it had not, and setting it aright was not going to be easy. And he was fixing a problem with the disposal (another $300, though it was related to something else--there was nothing faulty about the original work). In addition, Brian does not guarantee the installation unless he sells you the fixtures. If I had it to do again, I would have told the contractor that we need a different plumber as that policy simply makes no sense in this day and age (and we could have had a better, better-looking faucet). Anyway, I paid the $100 because it was all torn apart and we needed to get the house in order to go on vacation.
In addition, they installed filtration for a water line to an espresso machine. I asked if it could also go to the refrigerator. They said no, they needed to be on separate lines. When I did more research, I found out that (1.) they could have and (2.) if they had, then we'd save a lot of money on water filters, as the ones inside the refrigerator are very expensive. So our new plumber did that. It works beautifully. The refrigerator came with a filter-bypass cartridge to make this sort of thing possible--it's not some off-the-grid hack. And the external filters are 1/4 the cost. So the $66 for the reconfiguration will pay for itself very fast.
Falcon is one of the most expensive plumbing companies in the area and overall, I'm sure that their strong reputation is deserved. Their first-hour rate is $139 and $98/hour after that. There are excellent alternatives at better rates. I wouldn't begrudge the rate, though, if the work had been more careful (the faucet) and thoughtful (the water filter). And the silliness about not guaranteeing the work if you don't buy the parts from Falcon, I could also (sort of) take, but we now source this sort of thing through an excellent specialty retailer (Close to Home), which is owned by a plumber, and does not carry Moen--because it's not high quality stuff.
All nice people and Brian wasn't unpleasant about this matter. We just disagree about his policies and at their rates, I'm not favorably impressed with the work.
"We did install this faucet, in December of 2011. We were called in August of 2013 that there was a problem with the faucet, nearly 20 months after the installation. It is standard practice in this, and all construction trades, to warranty your workmanship for one year. We do indeed warranty our work and take great pride in our workmanship. We do make mistakes from time to time, as we are human, but we are prompt to return and have extended the warranty periods longer than the year in many cases. Though we did, and still do, suggest Moen products("Buy it for looks, Buy it for life" is their motto) it does not change the fact that the faucet was owner supplied and the home owner then assumes all the associated issues with the operation and repair of the product. We responded and, due to the complexities of this particular installation, spent 2.25 hours fixing the problem. This is a custom made sink and as a result there is very little room to get the tools to install the fixtures into the space that is available. In a roughly 4x12 inch area there is the body of the valve and two soap dispensers making it a difficult installation and repair as the other plumber noted. The $100 we asked for payment on this was what we felt a reasonable compromise to this situation. Obviously there is a difference of opinions on this. This response from this customer is the first we have heard of an issue with the water filter installation. We will respond here after researching the issue. We are a family run business and we are extremely proud of our customer service. Many a Christmas day, weekend day, and middle of the night service calls and phone conversations take place to accommodate our valued customers. We do hope that the repair made on this takes care of the situation."
"We had a scheduled appointment between the hours of 8-10. Due to an emergency no heat call the technician was delayed by 34 minutes and arrived at 10:34. He was on site for exactly one hour according to the GPS in the truck. Should we have called? Most certainly yes and we have addressed this internally. At the time we had a minimum labor charge of $139.00 that covered the first hour of work done. This is explained over the phone for new customers and certainly is always communicated when someone asks what our rates are. The "going rate" of $70 for a company that comes to you with a truck loaded with expensive inventory ready to take on "the small jobs" has not been charged in this area for over 15 years!"
