O'Hara & Gercke
About us
O’Hara & Gercke, Inc. is a general contractor located in Hartford, Vermont. We work directly with our clients and their architects to define, budget and implement the projects they want to build. O’Hara & Gercke, Inc. was formed in 2002 when Kevin O’Hara and James Gercke combined their respective talents and many decades of experience to form a new company specializing in residential and light commercial construction. Our goal is to create an optimal building experience for our customers through effective planning and communication, consistent construction quality, competitive pricing and a high level of customer service. To achieve this goal we maintain a direct employee base of craftsmen and job supervisors who collectively enjoy a very broad and deep range of construction experience. A successful project requires a complex choreography of many different elements of the construction process, and it is the responsibility of our dedicated field crew to ensure that our work is performed efficiently and to the most discriminating standards of craftsmanship. We are pleased that over the last few years we have had the opportunity to work on some of the most interesting projects in the Upper Valley and we relish and accept the challenges that each project presents. Before field work can take place, however, a project needs to be thoughtfully conceived and budgeted. We are often involved in the very early stages of a project, assisting the owners and their design professionals in developing designs and specifications that comply with the owner’s vision, budget and schedule. Over the years we have dealt with many customers and many projects and have come to understand how important it is for owners and their design team to get useful and reliable support from a general contractor in the pre-construction phase – and we commit a lot of time and energy trying to do just that. In many ways the actual construction of a project is simpler in its execution than the evolution of a project’s design, scope and budget – and we are happy to assist with it all. We encourage the use of green construction technologies, materials and techniques. We have built projects with active and passive solar components, green roof design, thermal bridging, advanced insulation strategies, high efficiency glazing, fresh air heat and energy recovery solutions, energy efficient lighting, high performance mechanical systems, including those utilizing ground source heat pump technologies, radiant distribution mechanisms and condensing boiler designs. We have direct experience in natural, non-toxic and sustainable construction techniques such as straw bale house construction, timber frame post and beam structures, wood fired masonry heaters, clay plaster and milk paint, and have worked with a variety of clients with specific environmental requirements to achieve cost effective solutions. Our personnel keep abreast of the latest developments in green building science through workshops and conferences and we have built Energy Star rated (5 star plus) homes in both Vermont and New Hampshire. If you have any green need or interest we’d like to think we have the experience and resources to help.
