The window job was at my home.
After the foreman came out to my house to measure and view the rooms that needed replacement windows, I was provided with an email quote of $498 each for two windows "installed." I sent a deposit check on 2/17. I was told that the install would begin on May 5, but work did not start until May 15. I was also told it would take a few hours during the morning. It ended up taking two full days (making me miss work) and the job was still was not done. It was clear that the carpenter who was sent out was in over his head. It seemed to me after the first day that they were running the risk of losing money so I offered to forgo the second window for which no installation had even begun. The foreman came out himself and said no they wanted to finish the job and be professional about it.
After two full days the carpenter was almsot finished with the job. He cleaned up the area very nicely but left a pile of construction debris in my driveway. The reason the job wasn't finished was that the original trim could not be re-used so I was left with wood trim to stain and paint and wait for someone to come out and finish the job. It wast finished on May 20. The quality of the work was excellent.
When I got the bill I was surprised to see a cost overrun of 36 &. The quote was for $498 installed, but the final bill was $1355.26. I complained to the foreman who had quoted the job and he said he would put it right. The office worker who sends out the bills saw things differently and said that since they couldn't reuse the casings, they added the extra charge. I do not understand why a professional cannot anticipate this. They also charged me for extra hardware because they had ordered thw wrong color.
The siding job was at a different property. I was quoted $2600 for one large exterior wall. I sent a deposit check on 3/1 and was told they would begin on May 12. By May 14 they hadn't started and I heard nothing despite asking for updates. June 11 I got an email asking if I could meet the foreman at the worksite the following day. As I was headed out on a business trip I could not. The workers showed up anyway and gave my property manager a hard time because he refused to let them enter a tenant's apartment so they could use the tenant's electricity without consent.By the time I got there three days later they had a problem getting an elecrictian to come out on short notice to remove the meters so I had to call my electrician to help out. I am still finding little piece of trim on the lawn and the identifying numbers for the fuel oil fill tubes were replaced incorrectly. The total bill came to $4900 ($2600 + $2300) which was reasonable but with $750 tacked on because the window trim was not included in the original quote. I had specifically mentioned the need to window trim when I had asked for the quote. The quality of the work was excellent.
I received the bill on July 1 and iniitated online payment from my bank within 14 days. Home Partners does not accept transfers so the bank has to send a paper check. Home Partners was quick to send a "nag" email on July 16 reminding me about the invoice for $5650.
