Bob's quote was right on, and he gave us multiple options on flooring, staircase and shower materials. We were kept up to date with weekly emails to let us know what was coming up the next week, what choices we needed to make, and gave us plenty of notice to move from one part of the upstairs to the other. They did all the heavy lifting and moved most of the things themselves. The order of the project changed as items were available early, or needed to be rescheduled, and it was always a smooth transition.
Any issues/questions that came up were discussed and we were given multiple options/recommendations to choose from. We had a non-standard size vanity in the master bath, and were having trouble finding a good match for what we wanted. Bob made custom vanities for both of our bathrooms so we could get exactly what we wanted. They came out great!
Anything that was incorrect or wasn't up to their standards was rectified. Any questions we had were answered quickly, any changes we wanted were met with enthusiasm and with options as to how we wanted them accomplished.
They also worked with a plumber we had contracted with to put in a ductless air system, so it could all be done at the same time.
Dave also has a mirror business and did a great job fixing an old family mirror we have. A much needed improvement.
There are still a couple more smaller projects that we would like to do, and we will definitely be using them again.
On time, on budget cleaned up neatly afterwords. Provided written quote before and delivered results within budget. We are pleased.
They did all the heavy lifting, and moved things around as needed. Bob emailed us every weekend with a "where we are now, what is scheduled for next week, and what we needed to pack/move". Things changed as items were available early, or needed to be rescheduled, and it was always a smooth transition.
We have a couple of outstanding items that will be done in a couple weeks once they arrive, but that was due to us adding them to the project towards the end.
They stayed within their original estimate. The price of the overall project did increase, but that was due to our adding items, or selecting things that were above the estimate allowance. In cases where we were below the allowance, the estimate decreased.
Any issues/questions that came up were discussed and we were given multiple options/recommendations to choose from. They scheduled the plumber, electrician, cabinet delivery, etc., and things would just magically show up when needed. Anything that was incorrect (i.e. wrong faucet was ordered by the vendor), was rectified quickly. Any questions we had were answered quickly, any changes we wanted were met with enthusiasm and with options as to how we wanted them accomplished.
We have asked them to do an estimate for a couple of other projects, and plan to use them again when the time comes.
Bob was very helpful, explaining the process of removing the old stuff and drawing up plans for the new construction. He explained the many options available for materials. We talked a lot about dimensions of the new steps. He really listened to what we had in mind and came up with great suggestions based on what we were looking for. He really wanted us to be happy with the final outcome, so he put a lot of thought and energy into the plans. He was most helpful when it came to deciding on railings. We did not like any of the standard hand rail options around and wanted something simple that looked nice and would not require much maintenance. When we could not find what we were looking for, Bob arranged to have custom railings welded to fit the space. That really made the final product far superior to anything we could have come up with on our own. It also left us with a much more durable product that is virtually maintenance free.
The entrance to a house is such an important part of the whole. I never would have imagined how satisfying it would be to have this area redesigned, since we were initially just trying to get rid of a lead problem. Since this project, everything from shoveling snow to walking in after a long work day is so much more satisfying. If I was in a position to build a new house, I would hire Lakewood Construction to do the whole thing.
Our projects included adding a wall and a door on the interior, and new stairs, railing and door on the exterior.
They are incredibly professional and thorough and good at what they do. They don't cut corners and they communicate very well when there are issues, options, or problems.
My husband is an engineer and an amateur handyman himself. He ALWAYS has some critique of the work of other contractors. Not with Lakewood. They do the job right from the beginning.
More importantly, they are really nice guys and fun to have around. They were WONDERFUL with our toddler son (letting him ride in the excavator, having lunch with them etc) and we now consider all of them to be friends.
If we ever need any other construction work done (large or small), we would not consider calling anyone else.
