Iron Horse somehow maintains an almost completely clean reputation online that we found is entirely undeserved. They fooled us and I encourage others to consider the many other options in the area before calling them for your roofing needs. We found poor communication and work that misses even the bare minimum for best practice. There were many red flags and we are embarrassed to have missed them along the way: They did not send someone out to inspect the roof. Instead, they used notes that they gathered from me (not a professional roofer) over a phone call. Later on, we learned that this is the only info they used to build our estimate. We requested a replacement of our existing shingles and were never given a choice between this and installing over them during this process. Based on limited info I could share about the condition of the roof, they decided they were not going to remove the shingles without telling us. When we received a work date that did not fit our schedule (we wanted to be present during the install), they resisted changing dates claiming that it was not necessary we be present. We adjusted other plans so that one of us could be present. On the work day when my wife noticed that they were installing over the existing shingles, she approached them about it with our concerns. Instead of stopping the work to make sure there wasn't any miscommunication, they demanded that this is the only way they do the work and continued the install. I later called their office to address concerns about the shingles being left underneath, some less than great looking workmanship, and other questions I had about how they prepare the roof for install and was met with defensiveness, passive-aggression, and demands of "this is how we have done things for 30+ years" implying that everything they do must be right. They also mentioned that it would have cost more to remove the shingles, which I would have happily paid if they gave me the option. Their only solution was that I could pay them to strip the new and old roof and then pay for another full roof install. We consulted with other area roofers who all agreed that best practice is to remove existing shingles always. They also confirmed that if standing seam is to be installed over existing shingles there is necessary prep work to ensure longevity of the materials. Iron Horse did confirm that they do no prep work at all, they install the roof directly over the shingles.

Iron Horse arrived on time and did an excellent job in removing old roofing and installing new standing seam roof. The crew was very professional and got the job done on time. It looks great and we are very happy with the results.

The job went great. I am not sure why anyone would put shingles on.

The installation appeared to go well when the company finally gave us an installation date. We discovered the problems with the roof after we found mold in our closets almost two years after the roof was installed. It was determined that the method used to install the roofing covered most of our ridge vent which did not allow the house to breath and the humidity built up in the house because of this. We have been plagued with mold issues and structual problems with our house because the roofers did not seem to know how to install the roofing properly. After several phone calls, we finally contacted the owner, John Kinnarney and he agreed to come take a look at the job. He informed us that this was the way that they installed all of their roofing and that we were the only customers that had a problem with the installation. While shopping for a new insurance company, we discovered that we were not the only customers that had mold issues resulting from a poor installation job by Iron Horse Roofing. We have modified the roofing job that Iron Horse did to correct the ridge vent problem and we have had a company come in and remediate the mold in our house and attic. The money that we saved hiring Iron Horse was not worth the expenses that we have incurred since they installed our new roof. We threw away over a thousand dollars worth of clothes and spent thousands more to get rid of the mold. As I look at the paper work that we signed before the installation, the company only guarantees their workmanship for one year; and they also do not guarantee that the roof will not leak if the snow does not happen to slide off from the roof and is not removed. In hindsight, we should have done more research on this company and we could have saved ourselves a lot of anquish and money.

Upon arrival, their team of 4 installers quickly evaluated their approach to the project and set up their equipment in front of the building. The supervisor explained to me how they would proceed and what to expect as a final result. He always had time to answer any questions as they proceeded. By day's end the project was completed, despite some intermittent rain as they were about 75% of the way through the job. The roof was 12 pitch and posed a dangerous environment to work on in light rain, but the team chose to complete the project rather than to return at a future date. In no way did they sacrifice quality in their effort to finish up. Cleanup was very thorough.
