COUNTRY VILLAGE RENTALS & REAL

I rented a private home in Vermont for the period from December 1, 2011 to April 16, 2012. I was required to give a $1000 damage deposit and a $1500 pet deposit for what was an older, well worn, modest size home. My contract stated that I would be responsible for cleaning fees and carpet cleaning when I vacated the home. When my deposit was returned, beyond a month after my departure, I was billed over $1000 for cleaning fees with no explanation or invoice for those fees. My pets were kept in the mud room and did not damage or soil anything and the house was left in good repair with only a need of a good vacuuming and kitchen and bath general cleaning. I expressed my concern to the realtor who handled the transaction and all I got in response was that the carpet cleaning was very expensive. I had rented two other homes for a year period prior to this in the same area and was never charged even half of that for both general and carpet cleaning upon vacating the homes. I filed a complaint with the better business bureau and the complaint was closed since this realty agency never responded to the BBB about the issue.
