I've been going to Do or Dye since the business began, more than 6 years ago. While I was a little bit nervous when the original owner sold the business and handed me off to one of the stylists that would be continuing there, I knew that she had a great amount of faith in the new owner and her stylists. Krystal Frantz-Bador has been cutting and coloring my hair for more than two years now and I won't go anywhere else! Krystal is a young stylist, whose breadth of knowledge regarding latest techniques and hair and skin care is staggering. She's incredibly professional, always punctual and never settles for less than perfect.
When I mentioned to her earlier this spring that I was looking for color and wanted something and quot;differentand quot;, she asked if it would be okay to go a little darker - she felt that it would brighten my face up. Imagine my surprise when the color was applied and she was absolutely right! I thought that red would bring out more of the redness in my face, but she knew better. I have gotten more compliments on this hair color! Amazing!
Just the other day, I went back for a routine cut. I got there a few minutes early, and Krystal was all ready for me. She always asks what I want - never assumes. I like that. I always walk out feeling like she has paid attention to me and I've always gotten a great cut and style. I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending Krystal's services or those of the Do or Dye Salon. They are a fabulous team with an incredible amount of talent and skill.

I just had my 3rd visit to Do or Dye in the past 8 months. All 3 times I had a cut and foil highlight done by Nealsa and all 3 experiences were great. At my first visit I told Nealsa I wanted a tapered layered bob (I read In Real Simple that that's what I should ask for). Nealsa spent time looking through magazines and online with me, showing me different bob options, and we eventually figured out that what I was really asking for was a chin-length stacked bob (don't take hair advice from Real Simple). I appreciated her going over the options with me instead of just going on my word alone. While foiling and cutting she moved at a pace that implied she was very comfortable, confident, and experienced, but not rushing at all. She's easy to be around and we had great conversation. My highlights looked wonderful too, she fixed my awful brassy home highlights job and was super nice about it. She blow dried and flat ironed my hair to give me just the style I wanted and even gave me some flat iron pointers.
My second visit was just as great. I told her that because I have thick hair and wasn't as skilled with a flat iron as she was, I had a bit of the and quot;lampshade/mushroomand quot; poof at the ends going on. Instead of making excuses and saying and quot;well, that's just your hairand quot; she immediately started brainstorming and suggesting thinning shears and razor cutting the ends. The second cut (chin-length stacked bob again) was perfect. It tucked nicely behind my ear without sticking out and the layers were a nice even fade, no chunkiness or blunt edges. And no lampshadeness at all even with my less-than-professional flat ironing skills.
I had my 3rd cut and highlight last weekend. Nealsa remembered what she did the appointment before and did the same thing this time and my hair looks great once again! She rocked the highlights again too, I love them.
I get lots of compliments on my hair and have referred several people to Nealsa. I'm not into wild wacky colors and cuts, I wanted something cute but professional and Nealsa didn't disappoint. She is the only one at Do or Dye who has done my hair so I can't speak on the other stylists, but I really like Nealsa and would recommend her. She's a good listener and delivered exactly what I wanted. Her prices are great too!

I called at 2 pm and a woman picked up the phone and said there was time for me to get color and a cut at 4 pm. I booked the appointment with Do or Dye because it appeared to be a trendy salon. I am looking for a new hairdresser after the amazing, talented stylist that I had seen for the past 12 years will no longer be in the business. So I went to the appointment at 4 pm and was greeted by Krystle. She graduated from the local high school tech program in 2010. I was skeptical from the get go knowing that she can't be very experienced. Krstyle rushed through the consultation. My last style was performed in late April. My previous stylist gave me a dip dye which gradually faded from dark brown to a brassy bright blonde, heavy bangs and a blunt cut. My previous stylist was amazing and transformed my hair to this new dip dye from a two tone red color that was half way done my back.(also an amazing but very different style). The reason I mention my previous styles is because a new stylist needs to know what processes my hair has been through in order to use the right product. I showed Krystle pictures of a few of my last styles within the past year. I was looking for her to evoke inspiration and plan out an amazing style for me. She flipped through a magazine and said she didn't really see anything. She then asked me to look through the magazine while "she got started." She went and mixed up a bleach solution and a a dark brown color. She came back with foils. My previous stylist NEVER ever applied bleach and color at the same time. Krystle didn't even start a timer with the bleach. She wrapped in foils while my previous stylist hand painted to get the amazing effect of dip dye. I kept asking her to walk me through what she was doing. She did not once give me any reason to put any confidence in her. She didn't give me any explanation to ease concerns I had while she was slathering bleach on the bottom of my hair and dye on the top of my hair. She kept saying it would be a pale blonde but didn't show me swatches of exactly what pale blonde. Regardless I told her that I wanted to cut the brassy and go with a cooler tone. Dip dye needs to be gradual not white at the end and black at the top. She told me her technique was to feather the blonde up and the dye down. My previous stylist used several colors to create the illusion of the gradual change in color. Was it time consuming? YES. It did look like a million dollars? No question!Oh this was good too, her sister came in at some point with a younger kid although I could only hear the child, not see him/ her. The kid kept saying "rock, paper, scissors" over and over and over again. While not the biggest deal, I was glad when the sister and child left. She was just hanging out, not there in a business related capacity. It was also while she was chatting with her sister that she just started slathering bleach on the bottom layers of the bangs. I was like "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" She said I thought you wanted highlights in the front. I told her "no, finish what you've started and I'll go elsewhere." She took the foils out and the ends of my hair range from white to yellow to orange. I guess it could have gotten worse. After taking the foils out, Krystle sprayed down the hair with bleach to stop the bleaching action. Instead of then rinsing my hair, she just slapped on toner. She left it on for maybe 2 minutes. She washed my hair, combed it and I feel that I got out there with minimal damage done. I am just glad that I spoke up and when I got to the point where I knew she wasn't going to be able to pull off a very difficult style that warrants experience and natural talent, I was able to tell her to stop. Years ago I would have just sat and endured then booked another appointment to fix the bad job. I just don't have the fullness in my hair at 32 years of age to put my hair through the amount of damage. I can't go out in public looking foolish which at a younger age I could shrug off.The bottom line is that Krstyle cut corners, didn't plan the style and couldn't execute it. She needs to learn some customer service skills as well. After she combed my hair it was so awkward. She didn't say sorry, or refer me to someone else. She didn't even say no charge. I just looked at her and walked out. So weird. Now the other stylist might be great; I have no idea because I have no experience other than this one. However, I am definitely not going to find out.
